- Abstract
The article provides information on English book illustrations of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. According to the article, the drawings of illustrators of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries have been the objects of successive waves of collecting interest. The most memorable images were created by using a process by which an engraved wood block could be faced with metal. One of these is Sir John Tenniel's illustrations for Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking-Glass."
