- Abstract
In order to improve the physical and color laser printing properties of paper, the polyvinyl alcohol and silica were used for pigmental surface sizing of paper. Under the previous conditions of solid content 12% and 14%, the effects of different ratio of PVA and silica such as 100:0, 15:1, 10:1, 5:1, and 1:1 on the physical properties of paper and laser printing performance were investigated. The brightness, opacity, roughness, color density, gray scale and image definition were measured after the surface sizing paper was calendared under the condition of temperature 70℃ and pressure 4MPa. When the solid content was 12%, PVA: SiO
2 was 1:1 and the solid content was 14%, PVA:SiO2 was 10:1, the brightness and opacity of paper obtained the maximum values. With the increase of silica proportion roughness increased at first and then decreased. Color density and tone reproducibility of paper was significantly improved by the pigmental sizing treatment as well as the dots and lines definition. The reasonable pigmental sizing scheme was as follow: solid content was 12%, PVA:SiO2 was 1:1, sizing temperature was 60℃, calendar temperature was 70℃ and calendar pressure was 4MPa.- Published

- Abstract
Rich mineral paper (RMP) has the advantage of being energy efficient, clean and creating no pollution during its production processes, with low production costs, and enjoying naturally complete biodegradability, fully compatible with the emerging demands for energy efficient carbon reducing features and the trend for environmentally green solutions, so if this media can replace traditional paper uses to become a new print media, tremendous environmental efficacy can be expected. So this study aims to discuss the print quality performance characteristics of RMP applications in large print run offset printing operations. The study deploys True Experimental Study methodology, with use of the digital printing test target of Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF), with flat offset printing on traditional coated paper and eco-friendly RMP, printing 800 sheets of each, with systematic random sampling of 35 samples for the study. Quality determinations rely on X-rite i1 Pro for elucidation of the printing quality characteristics for solid ink density, TVI, contrast, gray balance, and color gamut measurement. The results of this study indicate the KCMY solid ink density and contrast of the eco-friendly RMP were less than traditional coated paper; TVI value was higher than traditional coated paper; color gamut performance was less than the traditional coated paper. Optimal gray balance combination for RMP was determined as follows: 7% tone with C7M3Y4, 30% tone with C30M28Y26, 60% tone with C60M58Y5, and 80% tone with C80M76Y66. The study suggests that ink particularly suitable for RMP uses remains in need of development. Additionally, the study found that use of RMP in the paper machinery indicated transverse and longitudinal tensile strength is slightly inferior to the traditional coated paper, resulting in unsmooth surfaces post-printing, for which it is recommended that RMP makers should consider paper machinery structural aspects when pursuing future research on modifying solutions for greater printing efficacy with RMP.

- Abstract
The paper properties such as roughness, gloss, surface wettability and other factors have great influence on the dot reproduction attributes of presswork, and different paper factor has different effect weight on the dot reproduction. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a new method to analyze the influence of paper properties on the dot reproduction. The method is to apply the grey relational analysis to analyze the influence law and the effect weight of paper factors on the dot reproduction during inkjet printing, which could provide theoretical guidance for improving the printability of paper. The grey relational analysis is a multi-factor statistical analysis method, which is based on the sample data and the grey incidence of various factors and is used to describe the strength, size and the order of the relationship between the factors. In this experiment, five types of inkjet printing paper were used to test their printing performance, and then the dot gain data were dealt with by the grey relational analysis method. Results showed that paper properties had a great influence on ink setting. Ink drop diffused and deformed less and dot gain was small when paper had smooth surface. According to the correlation coefficient degree of paper properties which influence on the dot gain of inkjet printing, the sequence was whiteness, roughness, surface wettability and gloss. Whiteness and roughness could significantly influence dot gain, followed by surface wettability, and gloss with minimal impact. Experiment indicated that the grey relational analysis was a simple and effective tool to analyze the influence of paper properties on the dot reproduction of presswork.

As global environmental consciousness emerges, use of high technology to reduce environmental pollution has become a critical imperative for economies the world over. In recent years’ development and applications of ICT monitors have increasingly served to displace traditional paper based displays, yielding tremendous environmental efficacy. Digital e-paper displays enjoy numerous competitive advantages including energy efficiency, eye friendliness, resilient durability, and readability, but are currently generally only deployed in e-book uses, so enhancing their application scope, in addition to relying on their reading comfort, the market will no doubt develop appreciable economic and environmental benefits. Hence this study deploys the perspective of applications innovation, to explore uses of e-paper solutions in MRT advertising contexts on the advertising efficacy aspects of both advertising memory and advertising attitudes. This research relies on in situ experimental methods, at an existing MRT station in Taipei on the island of Taiwan, through convenience sampling to select 100 study subjects, who were asked to view two encased displays (either a digital e-paper display or paper display) with public notice contents, prior to completing the study survey and statistical analysis of the valid responses. The study findings indicate that, for the general public MRT patrons, digital e-paper advertising solutions yielded optimal efficacy for both advertising memory and advertising attitude, with significant results along the dimensions of both advertising receptiveness and interest.

- Abstract
With the rapid development of the information technology and digital image copy devices, the information carrier shows off diversified trends. However paper media still play an important role in many areas serving as information carrier, and correspondingly the information security of paper documents faces great challenges. So how to solve the information security problems of paper media has become the hottest research topic. This paper proposes an information hiding method used in printed documents image based on the screen dots modulating shade composed of a large number of randomly arranged screen dots. These dots are classified into coding dots, anchor dots and perturbing dots respectively. Experimental results show that screen dots modulating shade using our method has larger information capacity and also has strong robustness against the attacks of print-scan processes. Moreover, this technology also can be widely used in many other areas, such as anti-counterfeit printing, anti-copy, document content tamper-proofing and document image retrieval etc.

- Abstract
In this study 3 geometry for ONAN cooling system of power transformers are numerically simulated with (Perforated nomex) and without insulating papers (Netting tape). Geometries are A, RA, and R type. The A type has just axial channels. The RA type has radial and axial channels but there are no baffles to drive the flow into radial channels. The R type is like the RA type but with baffles. Insulating paper used in this study has some holes to cause some vortex in flow to increase heat transfer. The CFD code used is Fluent 6.3. To simulate flow in natural convection mode, Boussinesq model and pressure inlet and outlet boundary conditions are used. Results show that the most effective geometry is the one with baffles that drive flow in radial channels in addition to axial channels. Streamlines near the holes in papers show that that height of holes is too small to affect heat transfer and, so, the comparison between geometries with and without paper shows the types without paper have higher heat transfer coefficients.

- Abstract
Gray balance is the basic and critical control parameters of color reproduction, which plays important rule as lever in color reproduction which balance the correlation of material characters and process control parameters. This paper focused on investigation about gray balance data variation caused by slight chromaticity deviation of printing material. In the experiment the creation procedure of gray balance curve was simulated by EPSON Stylus Pro7880c ink-jet printer, and delivered curves were compared with each other. Accordingly the tone value variation of primary color was analyzed in terms of chromaticity deviation of paper. Meanwhile the variation tendency of gray balance impacted by ink and paper property was qualitatively discussed according to data comparison with G7 method. Results show that tone value of Y is so sensitive to paper chromaticity deviation that even the dominant relation between Y and M tone will be altered. At the same time, the more the ink and paper property coincide with ISO standard, the more curve of gray balance curve coincide with theoretically ideal value.

- Abstract
In this paper we evaluated some surface characteristics of the Vacuum Aluminized Paper (VAP) to explore the ink adhesion on it. It is shown that this performance is quite unsatisfying due to the high gloss of the VAP which results in an even weaker surface energy than the surface tension of ink. The optimal drying time for the inked VAP under UV light with 125W of power is approximately 4.5 minutes, converts to the practical production, the printing speed of the VAP should be near to 7128 sheet/hour so as to fully solidify the UV ink thus acquires the optimal adhesion of ink.

- Abstract
Silica of hollow structure exhibits a number of special characteristic. In this paper, a new way to prepare hollow silica spheres which can be used as filler for paper was reported. In this approach, when silica shells were coated on polyvinylacetate (PVAc) template particles by the sol-gel method, the PVAc cores would be dissolved synchronously, forming hollow spheres. Neither additional dissolution nor a calcination process was needed to remove the PVAc cores. The morphology of the hollow silica spheres was also characterized by TEM. It was shown that the hollow silica spheres with 130-400nm in diameter and 15-35nm in the shell thickness could be synthesized. The possible formation mechanism was also brought forward. The possibility and potential advantages in usage as filler for paper were analyzed theoretically. We confer that this filler can improve the printability of the paper, and reduce its density compared with traditional fillers.

- Abstract
In this paper, we presented an approach to control on the total hardness over the wastewater treatment recycling process for pulp and paper mill. The main problem, however, is the effects of Ca2+ concentration on the recycling treatment process. The experiments were conducted by using coagulation method with reagents of Ca(OH)2 addition alone and Ca(OH)2 +PAC addition respectively to control on total hardness. The samples were collected from the effluent and the influent of the biological treatment tank respectively of the wastewater treatment plant in a pulp and paper mill. The experimental results identified that the optimum reagent addition position was in the effluent of the biological treatment tank. When addition Ca(OH)2 alone, the optimum Ca(OH)2 addition amount was 2g/L, as a result, 70.1% of total hardness was removed ( from 1088.05mg/L down to 325.16mg/L), pH value was from 7.23 to 8.61, and sludge volume ratio was 9.9%. When addition PAC+ Ca(OH)2 , the optimum Ca(OH)2 addition amount was 1g/L, the optimum PAC addition amount was 300mg/L respectively, as a result, 71% of total hardness was removed( from 1088.05mg/L down to 315.25 mg/L), pH value was from 7.23 to 7.66, and sludge volume ratio was 6.5%. The effluent-quality can meet the National Industrial Wastewater Recycling Standard on the total hardness of 450 mg/L requirement. The reagents of Ca(OH)2 +PAC had many advantages over Ca(OH)2 alone , such as less sludge quantity, high density of sludge, small volume of sludge, and less addition of reagents and so on.

- Abstract
The influences of the paper properties on ink-jet printing quality are very complex. In order to predict the printing quality quickly and accurately, it is necessary to establish a mathematical model and an evaluation system, based on which we can estimate the paper used for ink-jet printing is suitable or not. In this paper, five kinds of ink-jet papers with different properties were chosen, and the properties including brightness (X
2 ),gloss(X3 ),roughness(X4 ),air permeability(X5 ) and absorbency(X6 ), were tested; then ink-jet printing in the same conditions was carried out and different printing parameters were tested, including solid density(D),dot-gain(DG),print contrast(K)and hue(H). Through combining analysis of each single printing quality parameter with some paper properties by using PCA of SPSS, the correlation functions D/DG/K/H(X2, X3, X4, X5, X6) were obtained. Meanwhile, a comprehensive function Y(D, DG, K, H) involving the printing quality parameters was achieved through synthesis data processing of SPSS. This study shows the influences of paper properties on the printing quality parameters and their corresponding weights, and it also proposes a prediction model of paper printability, which can provide a theory reference for printing work in ink-jet printing.- Published

- Abstract
This paper describes the use of a printing circuit technology to generate hydrophilic channels in a filter paper. Pattern was first designed using Protel soft, and printed on a blank paper. Then, the pattern was transferred on a sheet copper using a thermal transfer printer. The sheet copper with pattern was dipped in a ferric trichloride solution to etch the whole pattern of the sheet copper. At last, the etched sheet copper was coated with paraffin, then with a filter paper and heated at the other side of the sheet copper with an electric iron. The melting paraffin penetrated full thickness of the filter paper and formed a hydrophobic “wall”. Colorimetric assays for the presence of protein and glucose were demonstrated in the paper-based device. The work is helpful for researching paper-based microfluidic devices for monitoring health and detecting disease.
