Taiwan, located in subtropical areas, relies heavily on air-conditioning to adjust the environment to maintain occupant comfort and work efficiency. Among numerous indicators that measure living comfort, the one corresponding to the change of temperature and relative humidity is the most felt by people. This study will investigate data on changes in the atmospheric environment in Taiwan over the years, and will correlate them to temperature and relative humidity within the comfort range for human beings. The Heat Index will also be examined and applied in this research in order to help air-conditioning systems better adapt to more volatile weather patterns and variable human needs. A simultaneous and precise control of temperature and relative humidity with reference to the Heat Index can reduce the load for air-conditioning without compromising environmental comfort.

We propose a refractive sensor based on directional coupling between two metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguides to measure the refractive index change of the insulator, which is designed to be with a structure of metal-insulator-metal-insulator-metal (MIMIM) in which surface plasmon waves (SPW) are excited. The propagation properties are analyzed by coupled mode theory, and the expressions about the coupling coefficient, coupling length and sensitivity are derived. The sensing properties based on simulation results are also discussed. Compared with a dielectric waveguide, the total size of our sensor with MIMIM waveguide is about one tenth that with dielectric materials, while the sensitivity is improved ten times larger than the former.

We adopted a new extraction method - Accelerated Solvent Extractor (ASE)[1] to extract the liposoluble constituents of Panax quinquefolius and Panax ginseng. GC-MS was used to analyze extract constituents with liposoluble, and which main peaks were identified. It was the fingerprints of liposoluble constituents of Panax quinquefolius and Panax ginseng [2]. This method was able to expose liposoluble constituents with a full range offering a new method for identification and controlling quality of Panax quinquefolius and Panax ginseng.

The immunization strategy to halt virus is an important topic in epidemic spreading research. In this paper, we extend our seasonal epidemics immunization model on correlated networks. We apply numerical results of our model on different kinds of networks. We first investigate the relationship between epidemic prevalence and epidemic season. We find that the immunization performs best on negative correlated network, and give an explanation. We also present the result of epidemic prevalence with different vaccinating proportion and epidemic spreading probability.

The quantification of complexity is one of the most fundamental issues in the investigation of complex networks. In this paper, we propose multi-states entropy to quantify the complexity of a typical diffusion system, in which the interactive dynamics is characterized by a finite capacity effect. We show that the entropy strongly depend on the local topology and the finite capacity. Furthermore, based on the maximum entropy principle, we optimize the interaction of these two factors to achieve the most efficient interactive diffusion process on scale-free networks.

The problem of UHMWPE laminated fiber plate resisted projectile was studied by the non-linear FEM that Truegrid/LS-Dyna. The material parameters of fiber layers were gained after synthesizing test datum and some references, then the model of *MAT_COMPOSITE_DAMAGE was used to simulate the UHMWPE laminated fiber plate. The results of numerical simulation were compared with the test results, and the method of numerical simulation in the paper was proved.

Distortional buckling which is one of the most important buckling modes for cold-formed lipped channel sections as well as local buckling and global buckling may change mechanical properties and decrease the ultimate load of members. This paper reviews research achievements in distortional buckling, compares the existed design methods according to five national (regional) codes and the latest research achievements. Based on the comparison between five calculating data and test results, it is shown that the design method of North American specification has widespread application and relatively high accuracy, which could supply references for structural design.

The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the influence of charge shape on the air blast loading near the explosive. By using MSC. DYTRAN, the air blast loading of spherical charge, cubical charge and cylindrical charge with the same weight were simulated. After the characters of shock wave, peak pressure and impulse of such three charges were compared, it can be seen that there are different decay law for peak pressure of cylindrical charge, cubical charge, spherical and experiment formula. There are also different magnitude relation for the impulse at different scaling distance.

In order to study the influence on structural vibration from pre-stress and eccentricity, a experiment is designed. After analyzing the experimental results of 9 groups of modal tests on a post-tensioned unbonded pre-stress concrete beam, the following conclusions can be drawn: The influences on first order vibration frequency which are caused by eccentricity and pre-stress really exist. The rules of influences brought about by eccentricity and pre-stress on first order vibration frequency are complicated. When the eccentricity is close to the centroid, the linear correlation between the pre-stress and the first natural frequency will be good, on the contrary, the nonlinear will be strengthened. The first order vibrational frequency of the tested beam will go up with the increase of pre-stress.

Liquid filled double bottom structure is a usual type for large surface vessel, so the optimal design of which has important significance for viability of vessels in war. Appling a FEM process of MSC.Dytan, and changing the depth of liquid cabins, the thickness of bottoms and the thickness of stiffening, the response of different double bottom structures to underwater explosion were studied. After comparing and analyzing the deformation, the optimal design method of double bottom structures filled with liquid resisting underwater explosion was achieved. The best depth of water in water cabins is 90%, the best ratio of thickness of inner bottom and outer bottom is 11/9, and the stiffening should be thicker than outer bottom and thinner than inner bottom.

The purpose of this work is to study the effect of liquid in double bottom structures subjected to a closely underwater explosion shock loading. The comparative analyses are made by use of a commercial, explicit finite element program. Based on the difference of depth of liquid in double bottom structures and distance between explosive and outer bottom, six cases were simulated in this paper. The results show that liquid in cabins can enhance the resistance of double bottom structures to an underwater explosion.
