Abstract

Highlights: [•] LECA modified by aqueous solution of MgCl2 and H2O2 are used to remove toxic chromium. [•] Spent natural and surface modified LECA with MgCl2 and H2O2 are best regenerated with HCl acid. [•] XRD and FTIR studies of surface modified LECA do not show any structural distortion. [•] The modification of adsorbents improve specific surface area and metal sorption capacity. [•] Studied adsorbents partially increase the solution conductivity and turbidity.
