The article reports on the success of the first annual ArtPrize exhibition and competition held in Grand Rapids, Michigan in fall 2009. It describes some of the entries in the 2009 ArtPrize which include an Art Deco Loch Ness monster appearing in the river, the launch of 100,000 paper airplanes from rooftops of downtown buildings and a tiger shark sculpted of colored ice. Artist Ran Ortner won the competition for his painting "Open Water No. 24." The 2nd ArtPrize will be held from September 22 through October 10, 2010.
