The article discusses the scenario of collaborative services, which rely on a greater participation of individuals in the generation of the service they benefit from and a higher collaboration amongst themselves, to answer questions about sustainable living. It examines research projects conducted by the author and students from more than 30 design schools and universities in Europe, Brazil, China, India and Africa regarding the forms of social innovation. These projects identified six forms of organization including community housing, extended home and elective community.
