The investigation was conducted to calculate the superiority % for of the F1’s over commercial check hybrids, combining ability and genetic variability of eleven white maize inbred lines using a half-diallel design at Sids Agricultural Research Station in the 2022 growing season. The 55 crosses along with two commercial hybrids as checks; SC-10 and Hytech SC-2031 were evaluated in field trials at Sids, Sakha, and Gemmeiza Agricultural Research Stations using randomized complete block design with three replications in the growing season 2023. The results showed highly significant differences between three locations for all studied traits except GY and DTS traits. Mean squares for crosses and their interaction with locations were significant for all studied traits except for EHT. Also, variances of GCA and SCA were significant for all studied traits except EHT, indicating that additive and non-additive gene effects were important in the inheritance of most studied traits. However additive gene effects were more important than non-additive gene effects in the inheritance of all studied traits except for GY. Two inbred lines; Sd-4/2013 and Sk-12 had good general combining effects for GY. The best cross for SCA effects was Sd-63 × Gz-613 for GY; and Sd-1185 × Gz-613 for DTS. The cross Sd-2/2013 × Sk-9 was superior for grain yield and earliness than two checks. Also, four crosses; (Sd-2/2013 × Gz613), (Sd-41/2015 × Sk-13), (Sd-63 × Gz-613) and (Sd-1185 × Sk-9), were significantly superiority% relative to the two checks. Twenty F1 grain sorghum crosses, their parents (four CMS A-lines and five male R-lines) and one commercial check hybrid (H-306) were evaluated for yield and six other characters in 2020 and 2021 seasons at Arab El-Awamer Station, Assiut, Egypt under salt (S) and normal (N) soils. The obtained combined analysis showed highly significant differences between salinity treatments, genotypes and their interaction for all studied traits. The means of genotypes under normal soil were higher than the means of genotypes under salt soil for all traits except days to 50% flowering. Meanwhile, mean squares due to lines, testers and their interaction were significant or highly significant for almost studied traits. Mean crosses were higher than mean parent for all studied traits except days to 50% flowering. The best parents for general combining ability effects were BTX-807 and ICSV-112 for grain yield / plant under all environments (two salinity treatments and two years). The desirable crosses for specific combining ability for grain yield/plant were ICSA-88015 x ICSV-112, ATX-807 x RSH–19, ATX-807 x RSH-27, ASH-15 x Indian Exotic 27 and ASH-20 x ICSV-295) under all environments. The better crosses for heterosis relative to better parents were (ICSA- 88015 x ICSV-112, ATX -807 x ICSV-112, ATX-807 x RSH–19, ATX-807 x RSH-27 and ASH-15 x Indian Exotic 27) under all environments. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of roasting at 160°C for 5, 10 and 15 minutes on physicochemical properties, lipid oxidation, fatty acids profile, rancimat value, conjugated dienes and conjugated triene content of Giza 32 and Shandaweel 3 sesame seeds varieties. Results showed that all studied samples contained moisture (3.60 - 5.98%), crude protein (22.92 - 24.31%), oil (51.68 - 55.26%), fiber (7.12 - 8.14%), ash (3.92 - 4.73%), and carbohydrates (9.63 - 12.01%); in raw and roasted sesame seed varieties (RSS). Data revealed that acid value, peroxide value, TBA, conjugated diene and conjugated triene, increased gradually by roasting treatments of seeds, while the iodine value was slightly decreased by roasting. A little changes in the saturated and unsaturated fatty acids were found during roasting. Palmitic acid was the predominant saturated fatty acids followed by stearic acid, while oleic and linoleic acids recorded the highest levels among unsaturated fatty acids in both sesame oils. Data also revealed that the thermal stability (Rancimat value) of sesame oils was enhancement by roasting treatments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Department Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University during 2017 and 2018 seasons to study the response of two sunflower cultivars to foliar spray by different zinc oxide nanoparticles concentrations. The field experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) using a strip plot arrangement with three replications. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) concentrations (control, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ppm) were allotted horizontally, while two sunflower cultivars (Sakha-53 and Giza-102) were assigned vertically. The obtained results showed that number of seeds head-1, seed index and seed weight head-1 (g), Seed yield (kg fed.-1), oil percentage (%) and oil yield (kg fed.-1) were affected significantly by different zinc oxide nanoparticles concentrations in both seasons, except number of seeds head-1 in the second season. Sunflower plants which were sprayed by 200 ppm ZnO NPs gave the highest mean values of seed yield fed.-1 (1751.99 and 1515.18 kg/fed) and oil yield fed.-1 (676.79 and 600.81 kg/fed) in the first and second seasons, respectively. Furthermore, Giza102 sunflower cultivar gave the highest means for mention traits in the two growing seasons. Also, the interaction between ZnO NPs concentrations and sunflower cultivars had a significant (P≤0.01) effect on the all studied traits in both seasons. Giza 102 plants which were sprayed by 200 ppm ZnO NPs concentration gave the highest mean values of oil yield (723.61and 701.37 kg/fed in the first and second seasons, respectively). Solar energy is one of the main promising clean energy sources in future of the world. The technology of photovoltaic systems (PV) has continuous development with many applications. So, it is generate electricity without dangerous effects in the environment. Today, photovoltaic systems are largely used in rural electrification, and grid connected system water pumping irrigation and remote check point etc. Solar cell performance decreases with increasing temperature, fundamentally owing to increased internal carrier recombination rates, caused by increased carrier concentration. Results obtained showed that from 26.6 to 42.1 % reduction in power when temperature was 47 and 40oC respectively El-Kharga Oasis has hyper-arid climate which characterizes the western desert. El-Kharga oasis climate is continental with very hot summer and extreme daily temperature ranges. July is hottest month, with daily maximum and minimum temperature of about 40.9 and 24.7oC, respectively. The maximum temperature occasionally approaches 50oC ion summer; with January being the coldest month in January. This work aimed to study and overcome the negative effects of climatic factors on the efficiency of solar panel quantities to increase the amount of pumped water to satisfy the growing crops needs. It was carried out at El-Kharga, New Valley Governorate, Egypt, which bounded by long 30 20 and 30 40 E and Lat 25 05 and 25 30 N. To increase the efficiency of photovoltaic module two experiments were conducted: 1-Shading: Five shading treatments were tested including control, black screen sheath of 63% shading; grey screen sheath of 65% shading, black screen sheath of 73% shading and white screen sheath of 65% shading. The highest current and voltage output was from the control, and all other treatments were less than the control. The white 65% came the next after the control. 2- Cooling: In this part, five treatments were investigated namely, control, coaling by water, covering by glass 3 mm thick, Greenhouses effect as covering with glass at 2 cm over the panel and coating with as olive oil. The obtained results showed that was cooling with water was the best treatment may followed coating with olive oil and then the control. Six separate field trials were conducted at Shandaweel Agric. Res. Station (Sohag governorate), Egypt during 2012 season and repeated in 2013 season to study the effect of a new irrigation method with NPK rates and frequencies under two planting dates on yield and yield component of Egyptian cotton variety Giza90. The obtained results revealed that sowing dates affected significantly all studied characters due to the variation in total amount of heat units in each date. Early planting date in March increased yield and its component (number of sympodia branches/plant, number of open boll/plant, boll weight, seed cotton yields/plant and fed.) in both seasons. In the first season, a new irrigation method, i.e. alternative irrigation system resulted the high mean values for number of sympodia/plant, number of open boll, boll weight, yields per plant and per fed. in the first planting date, but in the second date recorded high mean values for number of open boll and yield per plant. Moreover, in the second season appearance high mean values for number of open boll in the first planting date and number of sympodia/ plant, number of open boll and seed cotton yield per plant in the second planting date. Application of NPK fertilizer up to high rate 125% from the recommended NPK/fed. significantly increased number of sympodia/ plant, boll weight and seed cotton yield per fed. under the two planting dates in both season. On the other hand, 100% from the recommended NPK/fed. recorded high mean values for number of open boll and seed cotton yield per plant in the both seasons for each planting date. Splitting fertilizers five times led to increase thenumber of sympodia/plant, boll weight and seed cotton yield per fed. in the first planting date for 2012 and 2013 seasons as well as, number of sympodia/plant, seed cotton yield per fed. and number of sympodia/plant, number of open boll in 2012 and 2013 seasons respectively, for the second planting date compared with the other treatments. Little is known about the response of pomegranate to the foliar application with nutrients and gibberellic acid. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) experiment was conducted on 40-years old Manfalouty pomegranate trees grown on Upper Egypt. The study aims to investigate the effect of foliar application with gibberellic acid (GA3), potassium silicate (PS), zinc sulphate (ZS) and fetrilon compi (FC) which is a mixture of micronutrients on fruiting of pomegranate trees. All the tested treatments significantly (P< 0.05) improved the yield and fruit quality and reduced the fruit cracking percentage. GA3 and FC spraying induced a 15 and 11% increase in the fruit yield and minimized the cracking percentage by 47 and 61% compared to the control treatment, respectively. It is recommended to spray Manfalouty pomegranate trees with micronutrients, potassium silicate, or zinc sulphate twice at mid of June and August to enhance the pomegranate yield and quality. A field experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm, Agriculture Faculty, South Valley University at Qena Governorate, Egypt, during 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 seasons to study the effect of salicylic acid and NPK fertilization on wheat productivity. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) using strip plot arrangement with three replications. The first variable was salicylic acid concentrations which occupied horizontally. While the second one was NPK rates which allocated vertically. The obtained results showed that all studied traits in both seasons were affected significantly by salicylic acid concentrations in favour of 150 ppm concentration as well as by NPK fertilization rates in favour of high rate(125, 45 and 48 kg fed-1 of N, P and K, respectively). Furthermore, wheat plants sprayed by high salicylic acid concentration and subjected to high NPK fertilization rate produced the highest mean values of grain yield (2600 and 2520 kg fed-1 in the first and second seasons, respectively). While, wheat plants sprayed by high salicylic acid concentration and subjected to low NPK fertilization rate gave the maximum mean values of use efficiency for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in both seasons. This study was carried out during the two successive seasons of 2015 and 2016 at the Experimental Orchard Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, Assiut, Egypt, to investigate the effect of cluster or berry thinning on fruiting of Ruby Seedless grapevines. Thinning treatments were performed after berry set. The experiment was arranged in randomized set up as complete block with eight treatments and three replicates one vine per each. - Fruit thinning by removing either 20 or 30% of cluster number/vine, as well as removing 30% of cluster shoulders considerably decreased the yield. Yield was unaffected carrying out by other thinning treatments compared to unthinned ones (control). - Removing 20 or 30% of cluster number was responsive for increasing the cluster weight. Contrarly removed 30% of cluster shoulders materially deceased cluster weight, whereas cluster weight was unaffected by other thinning treatment compared to control. - The best cluster compactness coefficient and form was obtained due berry thinning as removing 15% of its shoulders combined by 15% of cluster apical removal. - All berry thinning improved the grapes quality in terms of increasing berry weight, berry coloration, total soluble solid and sugar contents and decreasing titratable acidity compared to control. From this study, it is clear that to get the high yield with good clusters and berry traits it is preferable for carrying out berry thinning by removing 15% of cluster shoulders along with cutting back 15% from the apical cluster or cutting back about 30% of the apical portion of the cluster. Response of yield and fruit quality of Sewy and Bent Aisha date palms to bunches and strands thinning were studied in 2015 and 2016 seasons. Bunches thinning was carried out by adjusting the number of bunches per palm tree to 7, 8 and 10 bunches, where the control was the latter one. The ten bunches/palm, however, were thinned by removing 20 or 30% of strand/bunch as well as 20, 30 or 40% of fruit numbers/strand. The obtained results showed that reducing bunch numbers/palm to either 7 or 8 bunches significantly increased the bunch weight in alliance with 10 bunches/palm. On the other hand, such reducing significantly decreased the yield/palm. In addition, reducing strand number/bunch to either 70 or 80% of strands/bunch as well as 70 or 60% fruits/strand significantly decreased the bunch weight and yield of Sewy and Bent Aisha palms, respectively comparing to the unthinned ones. A remarkable promotion on fruit quality was observed due to performing fruit thinning in alliance to unthinning. Thinning either bunches or strands as well as fruits significantly increased the fruit weight, size and flesh percentage comparing to the unthinning. Fruit thinning also significantly improved the fruit chemical properties in terms of increasing the total soluble solids and sugar contents compared to the unthinning treatment. It can be concluded that thinning by removing 20-30% of strands/bunch as well as 20-30 of fruits number/strand achieved on good fruit quality of Sewy and Bent Aisha date palms with a relation suitable yield/palm. Salinity is one of the major rate-limiting to crop productivity. A field study was conducted at two developmental stages of Jatropha curcas L. namely: the juvenile stage (1-2 years) and the early mature stage (3-4 years). Three levels of water salinity were prepared by diluting sea water (Suez Canal water) to give 2.3, 4.7 and 7.0 dSm-1, in addition to fresh water (0.32dSm-1). Jatropha plants were foliar sprayed with three levels of salicylic acid (0.0, 5.0 and 10 mM). On the juvenile stage, the obtained results indicated that the most effective treatment for vegetative growth characters such as total leaf area (TLA); leaf relative water content (RWCL); relative growth rate (RGR) and leaf dry weight (LDW) was performed when Jatropha plants were irrigated with fresh water, without significant difference, than that irrigated plants with either 2.3 or 4.7 dSm-1. Application of 5.0 mM salicylic acid (SA) increased RGR, TLA and LDW for plants irrigated with saline water at 4.7 dSm-1 as compared to either 0.0 mM or 10 m M SA. On the early mature stage, application of 5.0 mM SA had a positive effect on both vegetative characters and seed yield for 4.7dSm-1 salinity treatments as compared to control treatment. On the other hand, values of RWCL indicated that there was no water deficit in leaves of treatments irrigated with saline water or control. This indicates that application of SA may minimize salinity stress. Foliar application of SA effectively increased chlorophyll. Generally, spraying jatropha shrubs with SA had a positive effect in reducing the negative impact of water salinity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two squash varieties were grown under surface and subsurface drip irrigation systems at the experimental farm of the soils and water depart., Faculty of Agric., Assiut University, Egypt during the summer season of 2016 to study the impact of surface and subsurface drip irrigation and number of fertigation doses (3D = 3 doses, 6D = 6 doses, 9D = 9 doses and 12D = 12 doses) on the yield and water use efficiencies of two squash varieties (Eskendarany and Fadwa squash hybrid). The experiment was laid out in split spilt block design arrangement with three replicates. The Results showed that the highest mean values of squash fruit yield and water use efficiency were recorded from subsurface drip irrigation. Using the same amount of water with subsurface drip irrigation doubled the yield as compared with surface drip irrigation. Dividing the amount of fertilizer to 12 doses produced the highest yield and WUF. Increasing number doses from 3 to 6, 9, and 12 doses increased the squash fruits yield and WUF steadily to more than double. Fadwa squash hybrid produced higher yield compared to Eskendarany variety. The highest mean values of water use efficiency were recorded from subsurface drip irrigation with splitting the same amount of fertilizer to 12 doses in both varieties. It could be recommended that, to get economical yield and to increase water use efficiency, one should use subsurface drip irrigation and spilt the amount of fertilizer to 9 or 12 doses whish will not increase the farming coast but almost double the yield. Field experiments were conducted at Shandaweel Agricultural Research Station, during the three winter successive seasons (2012/2013, 2013/2014 and 2014/2015) to find out the effect of different dates and irrigation regimes on growth, yield and consumptive use of three wheat varieties under Sohag governorate conditions. Three bread wheat cultivars (Shandaweel-1, Giza-168 and Sids-12) were cultivated in two different sowing dates (20th November and 5h December) under three irrigation intervals treatments of 21, 28 and 35 days. The experiment was laid out in a split – split plot design with three replications. The results revealed significant differences among studied cultivars and irrigation treatments in most studied traits in all seasons. The second sowing date 5th December produced the best results of the growth components, grain yield and water use efficiency through the years of this study. The irrigation at 21 days gave the best values of grain yield values (18.234, 16.609 and 17.198 ardab/fed) for the three winter seasons 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15. The average water consumptive use by wheat plants were 2094.48 for I1, 1883.46 for I2 and 1564.15 for I3 m3/fed. at the first sowing date (20th Nov.) while it was 2123.93 for I1, 1811.49 for I2, and 1606.19 for I3 m3 /fed for the second sowing date (5th Dec.). The irrigation water use efficiency was higher with using the irrigation treatment every 35 days. It was 0.53, 0.54, and 0.61 kgm-3 for the first sowing date (20th November) and it was 0.64, 0.68, and 0.68 kgm-3 for the second sowing date (5th December) by using the irrigation interval treatment at 21, 28, and 35 days, respectively. Shandaweel 1 produced the highest values of grain yield and water use efficiency at the two sowing dates and the irrigation regimes. An experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of Agricultural Research station, Arab-El-Awamer, Assiut Governorate, Egypt, to evaluate the effect of bio-fertilizers in combination with different rates of organic manure on growth, yield and oil percentage of cumin (Cuminum cyminum) in the growing seasons of 2012/2013 and 2013/2014.The studied treatments included four rates of cattle manure as organic fertilizers; 0 (control), 12.5, 25, 37.5 m3 /fed. were considered as main plots and four treatments of bio-fertilizers., 0 (without inculation), Azotobacter chroococcum(Az), Bacillus megatherium (Bm) and Bacillus circulans (Bc) as sub plots. The obtained results indicated that the studied characters were significantly increased with increasing the rate of organic fertilizer.The highest yield of fruits and oil percentage were obtained at 37.5 m3 /fed. However, the combination between organic treatment and bio-fertilizers was significantly higher than organic manure alone, where the inoculation with biofertilizer Az or Bm combined with 37.5 m3/fed. of cattle manure improved the most growth parameters, yield and oil percentage compared to other treatments. The fertilization of plants with cattle manure 37.5 m3 /fed.+Bc resulted in the highest of many components e.g., α-Thujene β-Pinene P-Cymene Phyllandrene and Cumin aldehyde recorded 1.664, 5.429, 11.489, 19.661and 32.623% respectevely So, applying 37.5 m3 /fed.cattle manure combined with Azotobacter or Bacillus megatherium as bio-fertilizer significantly improved quantitative and qualitative yield of cumin and produced high quality product for human health. Two cycles of selection were applied to the F3 generation of a cross between Bani Sweif 1/3/STJ3 and Bani Sweif 1/3/LKS4 lines to evaluate the effect of direct selection for heading date and correlated response in grain yield and its components. Significant differences among F3 families were found for heading date, plant height, no. of kernels/spike, spikes/plant, 100-kernel weight and grain yield/plant. Estimates of the phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation indicated the presence of sufficient variability for heading date and other studied traits. Phenotypic and genotypic variances expressed as PCV% and GCV% decreased rapidly after two cycles of selection for early heading. The results indicate that the two cycles of selection were enough to identify the early genotypes. Flowering time was reduced by 3.53 and 7.45 days after two cycles of selection compared to the earliest parent and the bulk of the F3-families, respectively. The results indicated that five out of the ten early selected families were significantly or highly significantly earlier than the earlier parent. Direct selection for early heading was accompanied by average decrease of 3.17, 3.76, 0.26 and 1.95% for plant height, no. of kernels/spike, 100 kernels weight and grain yield/plant, respectively, after two cycles of selection compared to the best parent. Direct selection for early heading significantly reduced grain yield/plant by 2.31, 2.45, 3.20, 5.72 and 6.98% for family no. 54, 76, 77, 68 and 50, respectively, compared with the best parent. The results should be indicated to the promising family no. 29 which was earlier and significantly increased in no. of kernels/spike, 100 grain weight and grain yield/plant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two field experiments were carried out in Shandaweel Agric. Res. Sta., Agric. Res. Centre, Sohage Governorate, Egypt during 2014 and 2015 seasons to study the effect of planting dates, i.e. 20th March and 20th April, fertilization rates of nitrogen and potassium with application of micronutrients as foliar spray and splitting fertilizerson shedding, yield and its attributes of Giza 90 cotton cultivar. In each season, separate trial was conducted for each planting date and the combinations between fertilization rates and splitting fertilizers rates (12 treatments) were arranged in a split plot design with 4 replicates. The combined analysis was carried out for the collected data from the two planting dates in each year using MSTAT software. The results obtained could be summarized as follows: 1. Shedding % in squares and bolls increased with delaying planting date. Higher rate of fertilization led to increase the shedding of floral buds but decreased the shedding of bolls. Fertilizers splitting led to a significant increase in squares shedding % while, decreased boll shedding %. 2. Maximum number of squares/plant, number of flowers/plant, number of bolls/plant, boll weight and seed cotton yield/fed, were reacted significantly to planting date in the two growing seasons in favor of early planting. 3. Among fertilization rates, maximum number of squares/plant, number of flowers/plant, number of bolls/plant, boll weight and seed cotton yield /fed were recorded with using of high fertilizer rates, i.e. 70 kg N + 36 kgK2O. Micronutrients spray failed to appear any effect on most of studied traits. 4. Maximum number of squares/plant, number of flowers/plant, number of bolls/plant, boll weight and seed cotton yield/fed were obtained with splitting of fertilization rates to 4 equal partitions, compared with splitting of fertilization rates to 3 or 2 equal partitions. 5. Generally, the obtained results revealed that the cotton should be sown early. High rates of fertilizer, i.e. 70 kg N + 36 kg K2O with splitting it to four equal doses is a must for obtaining high productivity of cotton (Giza 90 variety) under the conditions of Shandaweel district. The western desert of Egypt is an area of the natural extension for agricultural, industrial, and civil activities. The expansion requires a great demand for groundwater on the western limestone plateau in the central part of Egypt. Ten groundwater samples were collected from limestone Eocene aquifer wells located in the western desert, Assiut region.to evaluate the quality of these well waters for irrigation. The area under consideration lies between latitudes 27o 7' 540" - 27o 34' 474" N and longitudes 30o 39' 487" - 30o 53' 244"E. The chemical properties of groundwater of the investigated aquifer wells were determined, such as, major ions, pH, EC, TDS, SAR, RSC, RSCB, SSP, magnesium hazard (MH), total hardness (TH) and permeability index (PI). The concentration of the cations in the groundwater of the study area is in the order of Na+ > Ca 2+ > Mg2+ > K+ and that of the anions is in the order of Cl> HCO3 2> SO4 2 .Values of the groundwater quality show that the water is suitable for the irrigation use, except the EC values of some wells that have a moderately saline water. A field experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm, El-Mattana, Agriculture Research Station, Luxor, Egypt during spring season of 2013 to determine the effects of water stress on sugarcane yield and its quality as well as its response to potassium application. The experiment was laid out in split-split plots design with three replicates. The main plots were used to express irrigation regimes (0.8, 1 and 1.2 of the cumulative pan evaporation, CPE). The split units were assigned for irrigation manners (all furrows and alternative furrows). Sub split plots were occupied by K levels (25, 50 and 75 Kg K2O/ fed). All the experimental treatments were randomly distributed on the respective plots. The actual evapotranspiration (ETa) values under alternative furrow irrigation treatments (5215 m3 ) were less than that under all irrigated furrow treatments (5764 m3 ) regardless to the effect of irrigation regime or potassium fertilization. The amounts of applied water were 3592.50, 4979.39 and 8134.33 m3 / fed for irrigation regime (CPE) of 0.8, 1 and 1.2, respectively. Irrigation efficiency (IE) was decreased as the percentage of soil moisture depletion increased (at 0.8 CPE). Normal irrigation with 1.2 CPE at 75 Kg K2O/ fed achieved the highest value of IE (86.16%) while the lowest value (57.52%) was recorded at normal irrigation with 0.8 CPE and 50 Kg K2O/ fed. The best treatment was alternative irrigated furrow at 1 CPE when fertilized by 75 Kg K2O / fed since it realized the highest CWUE (8.86 Kg cane /m3 and 1.1 Kg sugar/m3 ). Cane yield as well as juice purity and sugar concentration declined, resulting in decreased sugar yield as irrigation intervals was increased.
