Only one-quarter of Turkish women participate in the labor force, one of the lowest rates in the world. This paper looks at the relationship between female labor force participation and economic, demographic, educational and religious factors. The main finding is that Turkey actually has more women working outside of their homes than would have been expected given Turkey's circumstances. Religion seems to be less associated with low female labor force participation in Turkey than in other countries with large Muslim populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Turkey's energy need has been increasing in parallel with the changing socio-economic structure and its growing economy. Failure to increase energy production equally, corresponds to increasing energy demand, brings up an important issue as energy deficit. In this context, especially considering our country's energy need being above 70% and growing its dependence on foreign, the energy deficit is a very important and primary problem that have to be solved. In this study, general energy balance of Turkey is evaluated in terms of the level of production and consumption and the issue of Turkey's energy deficit is revealed in general terms. The right strategy for economic development and actors in industrialization are two important issues for developing countries. The role of state and private sector in investments characterize the national economic system of a country. Whether state should invest in national industry as a sole actor or has a role of facilitator and controller is a significant issue discussed earlier by political economists. Turkey and Korea are good examples to show how the degree of government intervention can influence the formation entrepreneur class and establishment of private industries. This paper will try to compare and analyze main political economy of Turkey and Korea from earlier years of proclamation of republics to 1990s. The objective of this paper is to examine the reasons of current account deficits in Turkey using vector autoregression (VAR) analysis for the period from 1992:01-2007:12. The empirical evidence of the study suggests that real exchange rate, real interest rate and IMKB are most important variables to explain the determinant of current account deficit in Turkey.
