Abstract

The article discusses research on the effect of cleaning regime on hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen stable-isotope ratios of feathers in Japanese Quail or Coturnix japonica. Before conducting a stable-isotope analysis of feathers, researchers used a paired design to clean feathers with 2:1 chloroform: methanol or detergent. The initial cleaning using methanol showed enrichment of hydrogen by 40%, carbon by 0.2% while nitrogen values showed no visible correlation, compared with detergent treatments.
