The article focuses on the conflicting opinions of U.S. airports and airlines on the proposal of the U.S. Department of Transportation aimed at easing congestion by allowing airports greater flexibility in assessing landing fees. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) calls the proposal ineffective and inefficient tool. IATA is concerned that by encouraging airports to increase landing fees at busy periods the proposed policy will disrupt airline networks that are based on feeder airplane traffic connecting with long-haul flights.
