AMBASSADORS ,FOREIGN relations of the United States - Abstract
The article reports on the return of the ashes of John Leighton Stuart, the U.S. ambassador to China from 1946 to 1949, to China. When Stuart left China for the U.S., Washington published the "China White Paper," which documented U.S. policy in China over the previous five years. In response to the paper, China's Mao Zedong wrote the essay "Farewell, Leighton Stuart," in which he called Stuart the symbol of the complete defeat of the U.S. policy of aggression. The personal background of Stuart and his achievements are presented.
