A Duke university professor claims that 30 to 40 percent of all inscribed materials in the Israel museum in Jerusalem have been forged. All leading epigraphers - past and the present-including Israel's most prominent epigrapher Professor Joseph Naveh, and America's most prominent epigrapher Professor Frank Cross do forge.

Several evidences have been printed and shown to reporters against Oded Golan on the charges of forging the inscription on a now-famous first century C.E. bone box, but this was not correct, as it was a trial by leak. It was concluded that if the Israeli authorities had the evidence against Oded Golan they should produce it in court and allow a fair trial.

The ossuary - inscribed 'James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus' is a forgery, according to deputy director of Israel Antiquities Authority. The alleged forgery technician was a jeweler who worked for Golan, under the influence of booze in a pub told the story of forgery to his girlfriend leading to his arrest by the police.
