Abstract

Site-directed mutagenesis and carbohydrate and protein chemistry were used to identify the structures of the N-linked oligosaccharides. Oligosaccharide distribution of the transferrin receptor (TfR) from human tissue was found to be similar to the TfRs in mouse 3T3 cells. The type of oligosaccharide found at each site was observed to be unique and dependent on the environment surrounding it.
