The article presents a study on the development of a screening method for cell-cycle blockers with the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast to determine the activity of substances by cell growth. The study showed that the mechanisms of eularyotic cell-cycle regulation are linked closely to cellular tumorgenesis. The screening tool indicates that it is effective as a first-screening system for anti-tumor agents.

The article reports on the results of a study of the inhibition of calcium ion signal-dependent cell-cycle regulation by radicicol in budding yeast. A description of the experimental set-up and measurement methods is presented. The study concluded that radicicol alleviated analogous physiological effects due to the expression of a constitutively active form of calcineurin or overexpression of Swe1.

The article discusses the result of the study regarding the effects of fredericamycin A (FMA) on the mitochodrial inheritance and morphology in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in Japan. The FMA is considered an antibiotic product that exhibits antitumor activity. A study identified this compound as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, an inducer of G1 arrest in the yeast. The growth of a disruptant of multi-drug resistance genes, exhibited by FMA, and its cytotoxicity is a function of the time of exposure so as the drug dose.
