Abstract

The article discusses what patients think when medical professionals are able to accommodate their emotional needs, presenting the experience of the author growing up with pioneering treatment for her heart condition. Topics discussed include trust in medical professionals who listen and acknowledge the experience of the patient living with the condition, importance of patient involvement, and camaraderie, warmth and compassion felt when cared for by a nurturing, mutually responsive team.
