The article discusses the concept of successful ageing. The criteria for successful ageing include theoretical definitions such as life expectancy, personal growth, and social function. A broader interpretation of the concept with lay definitions such as financial security, sense of purpose, and spirituality will impact biomedical models and relations between health professionals and the elderly population. Studies on ageing are mentioned.
