In this article the author comments on the lack of an effective communication between doctors and the families of their patients. It describes the author's disappointment with the automatic classification of the death of a partner as a coroner's case as his death was sudden. It cites the ethical and moral obligation to involve the family of patients face to face despite the lack of legal obligation for the coroner's department to discuss with the family the necessity of postmortem examination.
