The article offers information on the management of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and the prevention of post-thrombotic syndrome, which develops in one in four patients within 1-year. It states that patients with DVT complaint about pain and swelling of the leg, with varying degree of redness and muscle cramps. It mentions that in patients with consistent signs of DVT and Well score of 2 or more, non-invasive two point duplex ultrasound is used as the standard imaging technique. It presents that randomized controlled trials will investigate the effectiveness and safety of catheter directed thrombolysis, whose outcome may be the risk of post-thrombotic syndrome.
