The article focuses on the Coastal District of Suffolk in East Anglia's North Sea region of England. The author explores why the area has a reputation for being eccentric, including Tudor and Jacobean buildings built in the 1920s by Scottish barrister Glencaim Stuart Ogilvie in the village of Thorpeness, a stainless steel sculpture called "The Scallop" by Maggi Hambling in Aldeburgh, and the brightly colored beach huts of Southwold.
