Graft-versus-host disease-associated angiomatosis ( GVHD- AA) is an uncommon manifestation of chronic GVHD consisting of friable vascular proliferations. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization, we demonstrate the presence of donor-derived endothelial cells within areas of GVHD- AA. Eruptive pseudoangiomatosis (EPA) is a rare, benign, spontaneously regressing childhood exanthem. The term was recently coined by Prose et al. to describe a dermatosis characterized by the sudden onset of a few to several bright red angioma-like papules with a different histopathology from the true angiomas. We describe three patients with the typical lesions of EPA but with some peculiar features not previously described. We discuss the suspected viral aetiology of EPA, and hypothesize a multifactorial aetiopathogenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Three cases of cutaneous bacillary angiomatosis in HIV-infected patients are reported. They differed profoundly with respect to the extent of the lesions and the clinical course. In two cases, Rochalimaea quintana was identified by direct sequencing of the DNA amplified with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), whereas an easy, rapid method based on the restriction length of polymorphism analysis of PCR products (PCR-RFLP) was used in the third case. This report illustrates the variations in clinical presentations and evolutive profiles in patients with bacillary angiomatosis, and confirms the causal role of R. quintana in this disease. We report a 62-year-old woman with acquired tufted angioma. Several scattered reddish nodules were present on the neck and upper chest. During a follow-up period of 16 months, some of the lesions showed transient spontaneous regression and one disappeared completely. Bacillary angiomatosis is a recently recognized bacterial infectious disease that is seen mainly in patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Biopsies from an area of livedo reticularis and adjacent to a leg ulcer in a woman with polyarteritis nodosa showed florid angioendothelial proliferation simulating angiosarcoma. A 61-year-old woman is presented with essential cryoglobulinaemia and a 25-year history of recurrent ulceration of the lower legs. She developed multiple benign angiomatous nodules on the face, earlobes and neck. Histologically, they simulated an angiosarcoma and are therefore of considerable diagnostic importance. Bacillciry angiomatosis (BA) is an unusual systemic vascular proliferation seen predominantly in patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. These vascular lesions are probably due to infection with a Bartonella species, most often B. henselae and in some patients, B. quintana. BA is treatable and often curable, but without therapy, may be life-threatening. Clinically, the lesions, when superficial, are said to often resemble pyogenic granulomas, appearing polypoid histologically with an epidermal collarette. We now report six patients, three of whom showed lesions of BA morphologically and histologically distinct from the other patients reported to date. Two patients' lesions appeared clinically as violaceous plaques and tumours resembling Kaposi's sarcoma: one of them had lesions histologically reminiscent of a papular angiokeratoma; and the other had lesions histologically suggestive of a combination of Kaposi's sarcoma and BA, Another patient presented with soft subcutaneous nodules which histologically showed extensive acute inflammation characteristic of an acute abscess, but which also displayed proliferating dilated small blood vessels with bulbous endothelial cells adjacent to numerous bacteria and also containing them. The Grocott--methenamine silver stain and the Warthin--Starry stain showed the organisms to better advantage in lesions of all six patients, although bacteria were also evident with the haematoxylin and eosin, periodic acid-Schiff and alcian blue stains. This article presents information about some cases related to dermatology that were discussed in the meetings of Royal Society of Medicine in the year 1958. In the first case, an 11 years old girl has had a lesion on the left leg for the 10 months and it does not itch. Clinical findings show that it is a case of necrobiosis lipoidica. Doctors are unable to find an account of this condition in a non-diabetic child. In another case, a 49 years old female was suffering with multiple angiomata and it was discovered through the biopsy of lesions appeared over the trunk and limb.

Bacillary angiomatosis usually develops in immunodeficient patients with a history of contact with cats. We report a 21-year-old immunocompetent woman with facial angiomatous lesions following a second-degree burn and without a history of direct contact with cats. The diagnosis of bacillary angiomatosis was based on the demonstration of bacilli in histological sections stained by the Warthin–Starry method. The lesions resolved 2 months after treatment with oral erythromycin for 8 weeks. This case emphasizes that bacillary angiomatosis may be seen in immunocompetent individuals and may be transmitted in other ways than cat scratches, e.g. by arthropods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents information on several case studies related to dermatology. One of the studies describes ocular and cutaneous angiomatosis. Haemorrhages appeared, in the right eye two and a half years ago and shortly thereafter in the left eye. These led to glaucoma and both eyes were operated on a scholar. The report says that both eyes are blind from cataract and presumably vitreous haemorrhage and possibly optic atrophy. The tension is normal but the iris of each eye presents posterior synechiae and many dilated blood vessels and the right eye has a small hyphaema. The examination involves the extensor surfaces of both forearms and legs showing numerous erythematous lichenoid papules and plaques, some confluent, of all sizes from 2 mm. to 1 cm. in diameter. They are slightly infiltrated and at first sight suggest psoriasis.

This article presents information on a case study related to a hitherto undescribed familial cavernous angiomatosis in which the lesions appeared for the first time about puberty. The patient, a woman aged 30, attended hospital complaining of blue tumors on her arms and legs which had first appeared about the age of 10 years, had continued to increase in number and had recently appeared in more conspicuous sites on the backs of her hands. The lesions had never bled or caused any discomfort and her sole complaint was of their unsightly appearance. Scattered over the forearms, backs of the hands and in an almost linear distribution over the thighs and legs were multiple blue nodules varying in size from a few millimeters to protruding lobulated tumors of two to three centimeters diameter.

The article discusses the paper "Multiple Progressive Angiomata," by O. Braun-Falco. The paper focused on a girl aged 24 in which cavernous angiomata had been appearing for almost two years. They were unusual in involving the trunk; lesions present on right upper arm and back of hand, and red lip; hazel nut to walnut in size many of grey blue colour; hard elastic, or compressible, some tender on pressure and more uncomfortable just before or during menstruation.

This article discusses two papers "Angiomata and Their Treatment," by F.C. Florance and "Treatment of Problem Cases of Angiomata of Infants," by R. Kaye Scott. It is generally accepted that: First, cavernous haemangiomata can resolve spontaneously. Second, their disappearance seems to be hastened and sometimes initiated by exposure to some form of irradiation, or by other local therapy and third portwine stains are very difficult to treat.

The article discusses the paper "The Physical Aspects of Radiation Treatment of Angiomata," by C.E. Eddy. This is a good paper, listing not only the methods and effects of treatment on the lesions, but also the possible undesirable sequelae. The importance of considering the effects of x-ray on. the deeper tissues is emphasized, and there is a valuable summary of the different methods by which these effects can be minimized.
