Abstract

The article focuses on a study related to the selective deletion of the major alpha globin regulatory element (MCS-R2) causing alpha-thalassaemia. It mentions nondeletional and deletional mutations of Hemoglobin alpha (HBA1) and Hemoglobin, alpha 2 (HBA2) excluded by direct DNA sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) in the carriers. It also mentions chromosome mapping in patients leads to the identification of deletions located far upstream.
