Abstract

The article focuses on the fish community data and its relation to the proposed marine protected areas (MPA) on the outer shelf in the U.S. Fish community data are limited from deeper shelf edge hardbottoms. In 2001-2004, sampling was conducted to describe habitats and fish communities within and outside of the MPA in North Carolina. Non-metric, multi-dimensional scaling showed that hardbottom fish assemblages were distinct from non-hardbottom. A total of 152 fish species were documented.
