Abstract

The phenolyses of 1,1- and 3,3-dimethylallyl chlorides were shown by kinetic studies to undergo SN1 solvolysis. The distributions of the products, dimethylallyl phenyl ethers and (dimethylallyl)phenols, supported the mechanism that involves both localized ion-pairs and mesomeric ion-pairs.
