Abstract

In this article the author discusses aspects of business ethics and the social responsibility of business. The article was written to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of "Business Ethics Quarterly," a journal dedicated to an exploration of that discipline. A number of topics are addressed including the nature of future scholarship on moral and ethical business practices and management, the pursuit of the maximum wealth for the shareholders in a corporation or business enterprise, and the links between executive salary and the increase in shareholder wealth.
