Information about several papers discussed during the fourth international meeting of the Association for Immunotherapy of Cancer held in Germany is presented. Newly discovered tumor-associated antigens for antibody and T-cell based therapies were delivered and demonstrated. Various approaches and techniques targeting candidate antigens in immunotherapy were also discussed.

Abstract
The article presents information on the Ninth International Conference on Progress in Vaccination Against Cancer (PIVAC 9), organized during October 8-10, 2009, in SoWa, Bulgaria. The purpose of the annual event is to highlight new research related to cancer immunology and immunotherapy. Different sessions of the convention focused on tolerance, immunosuppression and tumour escape; interactions between chemotherapy and immunotherapy; and ways to improve cancer vaccines.

Recent years have seen the unprecedented surge of interest in the role of CD4+ T cells and the role they play in the development of the immune response.
