Still little disseminated, experiences of inter-municipal cooperation of an environmental nature continue to arouse the interest of academics and managers. Created in 1995, the Intermunicipal Consortium for the Conservation of the Remnant of Paraná River and Influence Areas (CORIPA) is located in the northwest region of the state of Paraná and is composed of seven small municipalities whose territories comprise the area of the Ilha Grande National Park and those located in the surrounding areas. After a period of crisis in the early 2000s, CORIPA was restructured and strengthened, a fact that relied on the articulation of several organizational actors. In order to better understand this experience, this article will analyze intermunicipal cooperation accordingly to the strenght of ties from theSocial Network Theory. We adopted a predominantly qualitative approach based on interviews, official documents and sociometric indicators. The work points to the importance of expanding CORIPA's vertical and horizontal cooperation network and strong and weak ties, while presenting results with the nature of the ties.
