BiFeO 3 nanorods with different aspect ratios were synthesized by thermal decomposition, and the aspect ratio was controlled by changing the reaction temperature. The crystal structure investigation indicated that the nanorods of different aspect ratios had similar crystalline. The XPS spectra confirmed that all samples had similar surface chemical states. The magnetic and optical property study showed that aspect ratio brought large impacts on the magnetization, coercivity, optical transmittance, and band gaps of BiFeO 3 nanorods. The corresponding reasons for these impacts were explained. This manuscript proposed a novel way to tailor the magnetic and optical properties, which could potentially result in BiFeO 3 's new applications for optoelectronic devices and infrared detectors.
