A technique of calculating the processes of suction and discharge in positive-displacement compressors and pumps is developed on the basis of the first law of thermodynamics of a body of variable mass written for a moving flow. The technique takes into account the influence of external heat exchange, deformation work, and processes of mass exchange as well as the transformation of the potential energy of pressure into the kinetic energy of a flow. Two approaches to mathematical modeling of the working processes of a new design, a bicylindrical spur gear pump, are considered. The first approach is based on Bernoulli's equation, Hooke's law, and the laws of conservation of mass, energy, and the dynamics of motion. The k-ε model of turbulence is used in the second approach to model the working processes of the pump. A comparison of the use of the two approaches is conducted.
