Herein, we demonstrate a method for the syntheses of sulfinamides and sulfinate esters using a novel sulfur(IV) fluoride exchange reaction with organometallic reagents. Our strategy involves the addition of an amine or alcohol nucleophile to thionyl fluoride, acting as a S(IV) SuFEx hub, followed by an organometallic reagent. This approach allows efficient access to sulfinamides (45–91% yields) and sulfinate esters (44–82% yields) in only 30 minutes. The sulfinamide and sulfinate esters also can be readily derivatized to the corresponding S(VI) sulfonamides, sulfonate esters, sulfonimidamides, and sulfonimidates without isolation of the intermediates. Silylenes, divalent silicon(II) compounds, once considered highly reactive and transient species, are now widely employed as stable synthons in main-group and coordination chemistry for myriad applications. The synthesis of stable silylenes represents a major breakthrough, which led to extensive exploration of silylenes in stabilizing low-valent main-group elements and as versatile ligands in coordination chemistry and catalysis. In recent years, the exploration of transition metal complexes stabilized with silylene ligands has captivated significant research attention. This is due to their robust σ-donor characteristics and capacity to stabilize transition metals in low valent states. It has also been demonstrated that the transition metal complexes of silylenes are effective catalysts for hydroboration, hydrosilylation, hydrogenation, hydrogen isotope exchange reactions, and small molecule activation chemistry. The progress of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) in the clean energy sector is notable for its efficiency and eco-friendliness, although challenges remain in terms of durability, cost and power density. The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a key sluggish process and although current platinum-based catalysts are effective, their high cost and instability is a significant barrier. Single-atom catalysts (SACs) offer an economically viable alternative with comparable catalytic activity for ORR. The primary concern regarding SACs is their operational stability under PEMFCs conditions. In this article, we review current strategies for increasing the catalytic activity of SACs, including increasing active site density, optimizing metal center coordination through heteroatom doping, and engineering porous substrates. To enhance durability, we discuss methods to stabilize metal centers, mitigate the effects of the Fenton reaction, and improve graphitization of the carbon matrix. Future research should apply computational chemistry to predict catalyst properties, develop in situ characterization for real-time active site analysis, explore novel catalysts without the use of platinum-based catalysts to reduce dependence on rare and noble metal, and investigate the long-term stability of catalyst under operating conditions. This study investigates post-synthetic ligand exchange in a series of copper(II) and chromium(II) cuboctahedral cages of the formula M24(R-bdc)24 through solvent-free mechanochemistry for the preparation of mixed-ligand cages. While solvent-based ligand exchange does not proceed when the cages are insoluble or when they are dissolved in non-coordinating solvents, solvent-free mechanochemistry can be used to prepare a number of mixed-ligand cages featuring a variety of functional groups regardless of cage solubility. We further extend this strategy to intercage ligand exchange reactions where the solid-state reaction of cages proceeds in just ten minutes while corresponding solvent-based reactions require more than one week of reaction time. A series of novel protic amino acid ionic liquids (PAAILs) are designed and synthesized for the first time through acid–base neutralization and an ion exchange reaction. Among the synthesised PAAILs, the [DBNH][Maba] PAAIL has the largest CO2 absorption capacity of 0.78 mol mol−1 (0.142 g g−1) at 313.2 K. To circumvent the issue of halide ion exchange in perovskites, we have decorated CsPbBr3 and CsPbI3 nanocrystals with different sized PbSe nanoparticles and demonstrated that it effectively prevents anion exchange reaction in CsPbBr3/CsPbI3 nanoheterostructures (NHSs) as a consequence of halide vacancy passivation by the more covalent selenide anion. Nickel carbonite complexes supported by alkaline earth metals have been accessed via salt-metathesis of the corresponding alkali metal precursors. We devised a novel strategy that relies on a combination of the primer exchange reaction (PER) with transcription isothermal amplification, termed PER-Trap, for a sensitive biomolecular assay. Its design allowed light-up RNA aptamers to be produced as the final product, leading to the generation of an amplified fluorescence signal.
