Metal-free, photoredox-catalyzed aromatization-driven deconstructive functionalization of spiro-dihydroquinazolinones with α-CF3 alkenes is presented. The readily available spiro-dihydroquinazolinones reacted efficiently with α-CF3 alkenes during photocatalysis to give the gem-difluoroallylated and the CF3-containing quinazolin-4(3H)-ones in good yields with excellent chemoselectivity. The selectivity depends on the electron effect of substituents in α-CF3 alkenes. A wide range of four-, five-, six-, seven-, eight- and twelve-membered spiro-dihydroquinazolinones were compatible with this transformation. The protocol is also characterized by the mild and redox-neutral reaction conditions, good functional group compatibility and excellent atom economy. Dimensionality plays a vital role at the nanoscale in tuning the electronical and photophysical properties and surface features of perovskite nanocrystals. Here, 3D and 1D all-inorganic CsPbBr3 nanocrystals were chosen as model materials to systemically reveal the dimensionality-dependent effect in photocatalytic H2 evolution. In terms of facilitating photoinduced electron–hole pair separation and charge transfer, as well as inducing proton reduction potential with the presence of fewer Br vacancies, 1D CsPbBr3 nanorods gave about a 5-fold improvement for solar H2 evolution. An unprecedented electrochemical heterodifunctionalization of α-CF3 alkenes with benzenesulfonyl hydrazides was accomplished in this work, wherein a β-sulfonyl and a α-hydroxyl group were simultaneously incorporated across the olefinic double bond in a single operation. Consequently, a series of potentially medicinally valuable and densely functionalized α-trifluoromethyl-β-sulfonyl tertiary alcohols were assembled under mild conditions. A novel iron-catalyzed radical cyclization of olefinic dicarbonyl compounds with benzyl hydrocarbons has been developed. This protocol provides ready access to a variety of dihydrofurans containing a quaternary carbon center in moderate to good yields.
