Direct conversion of diluted CO

We prepare a novel COF for CO2 photoreduction with 99.9% CO selectivity in aqueous solution without a cocatalyst. DFT shows that the preferential adsorption of H+ on the COF results in increased CO2 adsorption energy providing an anchoring site of CO2, and with the cooperation of an ethylene group, CO2 reduction is triggered.

A nanosized Ta/W mixed addendum polyoxometalate (Cs12K3H7[MnTa18Si6W54O231]·61H2O) based on the unprecedented {MnTa18} cluster was fabricated successfully under hydrothermal conditions. An excellent electrochemical performance of this compound was found in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) as an anode material. The discharge capacity was 829.9 mA h g-1 at a current density of 100 mA g-1 in the first cycle and stable at 428.4 mA h g-1 after 100 cycles, which suggests the potential application of this new compound in LIBs.

A newly prepared tetraphenylethylene-based (TPE-based) covalent organic polymer (COP) named COP-1 exhibits high selectivity for sensing Fe3+ and the limit of detection (LOD) for Fe3+ is 0.42 μM, which is lower than the reported metal-free porous polymers. Furthermore, a WLED is fabricated and the CIE coordinates are (0.32, 0.33), very close to pure white light. The COP-1 shows potential applications in biosensors of Fe3+ and preparation of WLEDs.

Newfangled frangipani-like [MV5O6(μ3-O)5(SO4)(COO)5] (M = Nb/W) polyanions served as 5-connected molecular building blocks (MBBs) that simultaneously assembled with 4-connected [V5O9Cl] MBBs and tricarboxylate ligands (H3BTC) to form two new polyoxovanadate-based metal–organic polyhedra {[MV5O6(μ3-O)5(SO4)]4[V5O9Cl]4(BTC)12} with undiscovered “near-miss Johnson solid” geometry. An organic chromophore H4tcbpe-F was synthesized and immobilized into metal-organic frameworks along with two bipyridine derivatives as co-ligands to generate two strongly luminescent materials [Zn2(tcbpe-F)(4,4'-bpy)·xDMA] (1) and [Zn2(tcbpe-F)(bpee)·xDMA] (2) [4,4'-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine, bpee = 4,4'-bipyridyl-ethylene, tcbpe-F = 4',4''',4''''',4'''''''-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)tetrakis(3-fluoro-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carboxylic acid), DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide]. Compounds 1 and 2 are isoreticular and feature a 2-fold interpenetrated three-dimensional porous structure. Both compounds give green-yellow emission under blue light excitation. Compound 1 has a high internal quantum yield of ∼51% when excited at 455 nm and shows selective luminescence signal change (e.g. emission energy and/or intensity) towards different solvents, including both aromatic and nonaromatic volatile organic species. These properties make it potentially useful as a lighting phosphor and a chemical sensor.

A carbon-free, stable, homogeneous water oxidation catalyst based on the unique hepta-nuclear cobalt-arsenic core ("fused" double-quasi-cubane) and polyoxometalate ligands, Na12[{Co(II)7As(III)6O9(OH)6}(A-α-SiW9O34)2]·8H2O (1), was synthesized, thoroughly characterized and employed to catalyze water oxidation under visible-light-driven conditions.

An anionic metal–organic framework (MOF) with 1D nanotube channels has been constructed. The charge and size dependent ion-exchange of cationic dyes was investigated. Rho@1 could be used as a dual-emitting fluorescent sensor for sensing explosives by self-referencing energy transfer behaviors.

The first polyoxometalate-based metal–organic nanotube constructed via covalent bonds has been synthesized. POM anions stick the metal–organic nanotubes to build 3D nanotubular arrays. The stability, magnetic and proton conducting properties are investigated.

A unique cationic metal–organic framework was synthesized by connecting the neutral rod-shaped secondary building unit with a cationic dicarboxylate ligand. This framework showed a rare snub square tessellation pattern by the periodic tiling of triangular and square nanotubes. The charge- and size-dependent ion-exchange of anion dyes was investigated.

A novel δ-Dawson [(WO5)3W14Mn2(III)O44Cl2](12-) compound induced by the Jahn-Teller distortion of Mn(III) has been synthesized through utilizing {Mn12} as a reactant, which exhibits photocatalytic H2 evolution activity. Its electrochemical behavior and magnetic properties were investigated.

Three novel self-catenated 4-connected uninodal (6(5)·8)- metal-organic rotaxane frameworks (MORFs) containing cucurbit[6]uril were constructed from the in situ trans/cis-configuration (1 : 1) of rotaxanes by taking advantage of a d(10) metal ion directed synthesis. It was revealed that the effect of hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interactions play significant roles in the self-assembly process.

Two S-containing MOFs, interpenetrating IFMC-27 and non-interpenetrating IFMC-28, were synthesized by altering solvent size. The nanoporous IFMC-28 reveals high selective adsorption for Cu2+ ions and has been applied as a chromatographic column for separating transition metal ions for the first time.

An unprecedented organic-inorganic hybrid {[Cu(6)L(6)(H(2)O)(3)][Nb(10)V(4)O(40)(OH)(2)]}(2)·13H(2)O (1) (L = 1,10-phenanthroline) containing the unreported {Nb(10)V(4)O(40)(OH)(2)}(12-) building blocks has been successfully synthesized and its photoluminescent properties, IR spectra, thermogravimetric analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction were investigated.

A 12-connected network with fcu topology was firstly reported focusing on using predesigned metal–organic polyhedron (MOP) as the precursor, and its adsorption and delivery of the drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) was also determined.
