Reaction of 1,3,4,6-tetra- O -acetyl- N -(2-hydroxy)-naphthylidene glucosamine (HL(Ac)) with uranyl acetate in ethanol leads to formation of dinuclear [(UO 2 ) 2 (L) 2 ] (1). In a second step 1 is quantitatively transferred into the trinuclear oxo-bridged complex [(UO 2 ) 3 (μ 3 -O)(L) 3 ] 2- (2 2- ) via deprotonation and coordination of a water molecule. This transformation was followed by NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy and it proved possible to selectively introduce 18 O into the μ 3 -bridge.

Vapor-induced crystal to crystal transformation between non-polar [Fe(sap)(acac)(sol)] (H 2 sap = 2-salicylideneaminophenol, acac = acethylacetate, sol = MeOH, pyridine) and polar [Fe(sap)(acac)(DMSO)] was demonstrated. It provides an example of switchable ferroelectric behaviour attributted to the structural phase transition triggered by solvent vapour.

Recently, non-crystalline coordination materials have been shown to represent a versatile class of functional materials. However, such materials incorporating metal complex clusters have remained largely unexplored. Herein, we demonstrate that a luminescent tetranuclear ReV cluster melts at 489 K, with the cluster structure being maintained in the corresponding supercooled ionic liquid phase.

A hexagonal cobalt(ii) metallacycle and its "lipid packaged" derivatives, [Co 6 (R-bisterpy) 6 ]X 12 (R = H, OC 16 H 33 , OC 27 H 55 ; X = BF 4 , C 12 -Glu), have been synthesized and characterized. The compounds incorporating BF 4 - anions formed sphere-like aggregates while the compounds with C 12 -Glu lipid anions gave double-layered honeycomb architectures composed of hexagonal stacked tubular structures, which exhibit spin crossover behaviour.

Ion conduction through graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets that is pH-switchable between H + (in acid) and OH - (in base) ions is demonstrated. This finding is the first observation of this type for ion conductive materials and demonstrates an example of stimuli-driven ion-conduction switching.

A morphology transformation of hybrid liposomes was shown to occur from spherical vesicles to tubular micelles when increasing the ratio of the metal complex lipid present. Phase transition temperatures increased while viscosities decreased, indicating that the hybrids exhibit stronger interaction between heads but weaker interaction between alkyl chains than occurs in pristine liposomes.

Self-assembled hybrid supramolecular architectures formed between amphiphilic anions and long alkylated cationic cobalt(ii) complexes of type [Co(C n -terpy) 2 ](C 12 -Glu) 2 (n = 15-20) have been synthesized and characterized by TEM, PXRD and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The hybrids display wire or rolled sheet supramolecular arrangements with odd and even alkyl chain dependence, with the cobalt(ii) centres exhibiting gradual spin-crossover behaviours.

A large 4,4'-biphenylene-spaced bis-β-diketone ligand is demonstrated to form a neutral tetrahedral M(4)L(6) metal-organic cage that encloses a volume of 844 Å(3) and encapsulates four tetrahydrofuran guest molecules.

A rigid linear bis-bidentate quaterpyridine undergoes metal directed self-assembly with iron(ii) salts yielding M(4)L(6) host-guest complexes; selective anion binding for PF(6)(-) over BF(4)(-) is observed.

A new molecular cage incorporating three bipyridyl units has been synthesised by a conventional multi-step procedure as well as, much more efficiently, by a Ni(ii) template procedure; an X-ray structure of the nickel complex shows that it adopts an exo configuration of each of the bridgehead nitrogen lone pairs, the central metal ion acts to promote a triple helical twist that extends [similar]22 [Angstrom] along the axial length of the molecule.

Biguanide-like bidentate ligands in a variety of transition metal complexes of different geometries exhibit conformational changes upon protonation/deprotonation that alter their capacity to recognise complementary hydrogen bonding motifs.

The Robson compartmental macrocyclic ligand derived from the condensation of derivatives of 2,6-diformylphenol and diamines has been prepared for the first time in its free ligand form; competitive three-phase transport and two-phase extraction studies confirm high double-loaded selectivity for the binding and delivery of Cu(II).
