Singlet oxygen (1O 2) is an excellent active species generated in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) that exhibits high selectivity, long life and wide pH tolerance. Therefore, catalysts for highly efficient and selective generation of 1O 2 in AOPs would be highly desirable. This study developed a single atom Co-anchored nitrogen‑doped graphene (Co SAC -NG), which showed excellent catalytic performance for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and bisphenol A degradation, with the pseudofirst-order reaction rate constant improved from 8.13 × 10−4 min−1 without catalyst to 4.42 × 10−2 min−1 with 5 mg L−1 Co SAC -NG. Mechanism studies indicated that Co SAC -NG selectively enhanced 1O 2 generation, which was the dominant active specie for pollutant degradation. Moreover, the Co SAC -NG/PMS system effectively reduced the acute toxicity of pollutant, and Co SAC -NG exhibited remarkable cycling stability and negligible leaching. • Structure control of electrospun TiO 2 NFs through various strategies was summarized. • Mechanical flexibility adjusting of electrospun TiO 2 NFs and related deformation mechanism were discussed. • Multifunctional applications of electrospun TiO 2 NFs in environment, energy, and sensors were introduced. • Current challenges and future perspectives on the development of electrospun TiO 2 NFs were proposed. One dimensional (1D) TiO 2 nanomaterials, as one of the most important semiconductor materials, which have attracted much attention due to their unique structural feature, outstanding optical or electronic properties. Electrospinning is one of the most facile and highly versatile approaches to fabricate 1D TiO 2 nanofibers (NFs) with high porosity, controllable dimensions, designed structures, and adjustable mechanics, which hold great promise in many areas including photocatalytic degradation, solar cells, lithium-ion batteries, water splitting, sensors, and catalyst supports. In this review, progress in structure/mechanics design, fabrication and multifunctional applications of electrospun TiO 2 NFs are presented. The strategies to prepare electrospun TiO 2 NFs with diverse structures involving porous, hollow, hierarchical, aligned, and 3D self-assembled nanostructures are introduced and analyzed. Moreover, the recent breakthrough in the construction of flexible TiO 2 nanofibrous materials and corresponding deformation mechanism have been concerned. Furthermore, some achievements associated with the potential applications of electrospun TiO 2 NFs in the areas of environmental remediation, energy, and sensors are discussed. Finally, a straightforward summary, main challenges and future outlooks about electrospun TiO 2 NFs are proposed. • A facile approach to synthesize biocompatible hollow-structured MIL-125-Ti nano-MOFs. • The optimal MIL-125-Ti-HA nanoparticles were synthesized for delivery of doxorubicin. • The NPs had high DOX loading contents with pH-sensitive release. • The NPs could escape from lysosomes to improve intracellular drug accumulation. Metal-organic-frameworks (MOFs) have been widely used for drug delivery systems due to their high drug loading content and easy modification. But it remains the biggest challenge to exploring biocompatible MOFs with uniform small sizes and well-defined surface chemistry for tumor therapy. Especially, the hollow-structured MIL-125 Titanium (Ti) nano-MOFs have not been prepared for drug carriers. Therefore, we studied a facile approach to synthesize hollow-structured Ti-based nano-MOF via surfactant coordination modulation. The as-prepared nanomaterials exhibited uniform size of ~200 nm and large BET surface area of 1134 m2·g−1. And then, by simple mechanical grinding, we prepared this hyaluronic acid (HA) modified Ti-based MOFs. Moreover, the amount of HA modification on the MOFs surface for the drug delivery systems was systematically investigated. The doxorubicin (DOX) loaded nano-MOFs (MIL-125-Ti@DOX) and HA modified nanomaterials (MIL-125-Ti-HA@DOX) possessed high doxorubicin loading content (~25.0–35.0%) due to their hollow structures and π-π stacking interaction. Especially, In vitro and in vivo safety assessments proved that the Ti-based nano MOF was non-toxic and biocompatibility. Besides, MIL-125-Ti-HA@DOX could escape from lysosomes to improve intracellular drug accumulations resulting in the enhanced the anticancer efficacy. In vivo antitumor results demonstrated that MIL-125-Ti-HA@DOX could not only enhance targeted tumor therapy but also lower the side effect of DOX. • g-C 3 N 4 @Co-TiO 2 (CNCT) nanofibrous membranes exhibiting robust flexibility were first fabricated. • The core-shell quantum heterojunction between g-C 3 N 4 and Co-TiO 2 effectively promoted carrier separation and transfer. • The CNCT membranes displayed remarkable photocatalytic activity towards antibiotic degradation and E. coil inactivation. • The CNCT membranes possessed excellent reversibility and easy-recycling ability. Functional semiconductor nanomaterials modified TiO 2 fibrous membranes with desirable heterostructures, good mechanical properties, and superior visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity would have broad applications in environmental remediation; however, constructing such fantastic fibrous membranes still remains an enormous challenge. Herein, we fabricated a soft and heterostructured g-C 3 N 4 @Co-TiO 2 (CNCT) nanofibrous membranes by a facile electrospinning approach and subsequent thermal polymerization process. The ultrathin g-C 3 N 4 nanoshell was in situ synthesized and uniformly wrapped onto Co-TiO 2 nanofiber to form core-shell quantum heterojunction, and the thickness and loading amount of g-C 3 N 4 nanoshell can be precisely controlled through simply regulating the content of precursor (melamine). Benefiting from the three-dimensional porous networks, enhanced visible-light response, and the effective charge transfer induced by uniform and compact heterojunction, the as-synthesized CNCT membranes exhibited a prominent photodegradation efficiency of 90.8% within 60 min towards tetracycline hydrochloride, and also displayed excellent antibacterial performance with a 6 log inactivation of E. coil after 90 min visible light exposure. Moreover, the stable core-shell structures and robust mechanical strength also endow the membranes with favorable reversibility and easy-recycling ability. Photocatalytic CO 2 reduction is a potential promising strategy for eliminating the global energy crisis and environmental issue. However, the complex reduction pathway leads to multiple possible products with limited efficiency, representing a great barrier for the further development. Herein, we report a Metal-organic framework (MOF) based heterostructure model for the efficient photoreduction of CO 2 with full controllable product selectivity between CO and C 2 H 5 OH. Novel core-sheath like MOF@TiO 2 heterostructures could be efficiently prepared by the layer-by-layer (LBL) growth of HKUST-1 onto Cu-embedded TiO 2 nanofibers (NFs), affording covalent heterointerfaces for efficient S-scheme charge separation and promising potential in photocatalytic activity regulation. By improving the CO 2 capture and retention via in situ amino-functionalization of HKUST-1, the photocatalytic CO production rate could be greatly promoted from 8.76 ± 0.84 to 43.46 ± 0.86 μmol g−1h−1 accompanied by an enhancement of selectivity from 91.7 % to 98.3 %. Moreover, the product could be efficiently engineered into ethanol with a C 2 product selectivity of 94.2 % by introducing Cu nanoparticles (NPs) as the additional C C coupling site. The in situ FT-IR and DFT calculations reveal the mechanistic process and decisive role of amino-functionalization and Cu NPs deposition in photocatalytic activity engineering. This work designed and synthesized a novel D'-A-DA'D-A-D' typed fused-ring-conjugated small-molecule cathode interlayer material (named FY1) to fabricate high-efficiency inverted PSCs and mini-PSC modules. FY1 improves electron transport, reduces energy barriers, and is ethanol-soluble for easy processing. It increases PSCs' performance, achieving 23.72% PCE and 82.3% FF, and maintains 98.5% efficiency after 850 h. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) represent a highly promising photovoltaic technology wherein a low-work function metal cathode is essential for efficient electron collection. The effectiveness of PSCs is significantly enhanced by a well-designed cathode interface layer (CIL). Characterized by their simple structure and impressive modification capabilities, small-molecule CILs hold considerable commercial potential for advancing the performance of PSCs. Herein, we synthesized a conjugated small-molecule CIL, named FY1, for modulating the cathode interface of inverted PSCs to enhance the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and long-term stability. FY1 not only optimized the molecule/metal contact to reduce traps but also uniformly improved the efficiency and speed of extracting photogenerated electrons, facilitating their effective extraction at the cathode interface. FY1 modification reduced the work function of Ag, subsequently lowering the energy barrier for electron transfer from the electron transport layer to the external cathode metal. By employing FY1 as a CIL, a record-high PCE of 23.72 % and a fill factor of 82.3 % were achieved in inverted PSCs. Furthermore, FY1 modification increased the PCE of PSC modules with an active area of 14 cm2 to 21.8 %; after continuous illumination for 850 h, it retained approximately 98.5 % of the initial efficiency. Rational design of nanoscale structures can greatly strengthen heterogeneous catalysis with the maximal utilization of active sites. Single atom catalysts (SACs) are recently emerging but a systematic design of nanostructured SAC has rarely been demonstrated yet. Here, distinct architectural structure-dependence of electrochemical CO 2 reduction (CO 2 RR) on Ni-based SACs is presented. Starting from Ni-imidazolate coordination polymers (Ni-Im) and their supported counterparts with a carbon nanotube (CNT) and a zeolite imidazolate framework (ZIF-8), the respective derivatives, i.e. Ni-SAC, Ni-SAC-CNT, and Ni-SAC-ZIF8, are obtained after pyrolysis. The presence of substrates ultimately results in large surface porous N-doped carbon nanostructures, which facilitate the diffusion of etchants to remove undesired Ni nanoparticles effectively. The dense Ni single atomic sites contained within the nanostructure are easily accessible to CO 2 reactants during CO 2 RR, thus promoting high utilization of active sites even at large current densities. Electro-conductive CNT substrates mediate fluent charge transfer and stimulates the intrinsic activity of catalytic sites. Consequently, operating at 400 mA cm−2, Ni-SAC-CNT attains a high faradaic efficiency of 99% toward CO at a low overpotential of 0.24 V, equivalent to a record cathodic energetic efficiency and turnover frequency of 83.4% and 439,000 h−1, respectively. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved great success in the past few years because of outstanding photovoltaic performance. However, the existence of electronic trap states in the perovskite film is an obstacle for the fabrication of high-performance and stable PSCs. Herein, a linear conjugated polyelectrolyte was developed and employed as a dopant to improve the performance and stability of the perovskite film. The PPNNA doping can passivate surface defects to reduce the electronic trap states in the perovskite film, while simultaneously enhancing the electron extraction and transport to achieve high-efficiency solar cells. Furthermore, the PPNNA-doped perovskite film shows better stability from efficient surface passivation. The optimal 0.4% PPNNA-doped device exhibits better photovoltaic efficiency (20.38%) with enhanced device stability as compared to the control device (18.51%). • The semiconducting property of antimonene are verified by theoretical prediction. • An indirect-to-direct bandgap transition was observed under biaxial strain. • The interaction of antimonene with photons shows potential in nanophotonics. • Bandgap engineering will be a strategy for using antimonene in wider areas. Since its discovery in 2015, antimonene, as an emerging 2D material, has rapidly gained popularity due to its unique optical and electronic properties. Both theoretical and experimental studies have verified its remarkable semiconducting properties, including a tunable bandgap, high carrier mobility, low thermal conductivity, and superior optical response, which are undoubtedly promising for practical applications in numerous fields. Especially, the interaction of semiconducting antimonene with photons has significant potential in nanophotonic applications, and a growing number of related works have been reported in the past few years. In this review, the semiconducting properties of antimonene are first introduced by theoretical analysis of its band structure, carrier mobility, thermal property, and optical response. Subsequently, we summarize the latest research on antimonene with its applications in nanophotonics, including photodetectors, solar cells, photocatalysis, cancer therapy, surface plasmon resonance sensor, and nonlinear photonic devices. Harmful algal blooms (HABs) pose a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems. Conventional anti-algal methods are associated with low anti-algal efficiency, and absence of treatment of toxins released by algae. Therefore, it is essential to establish effective HAB prevention strategies. Artificial nanozymes have a great potential in combating HABs due to their unique catalytic properties. An ultra-small carbon dots nanozyme (VCN) with oxidase-like activity was synthesized in this study. VCN exerts its catalytic effect by catalyzing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from oxygen. VCN was utilized to inactivate hazardous marine algae based on its catalytic properties. It was found that VCN could rapidly remove more than 90% of harmful algae (Skeletonema costatum and Phaeocystis globosa) in just 4 h under environmental visible light. To the best of our knowledge, the algae removal efficacy is greater than that of previous reports. Additionally, VCN could attenuate the toxicity of toxins released by algae to counteract secondary pollution caused by algal fragmentation, which is important for practical applications in water pollution caused by algae. A single-crystalline Ni-rich cathode material is synthesized for high-performance all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). We customize the morphology and microstructure of the material by optimizing the synthesis process (particle size control and post-heat treatment) and demonstrate the advantages of single-crystalline cathode materials for practical use in ASSBs. The particle density and particle hardness of single-crystalline cathode materials with a particle size of 5 μm are considerably higher than those of the conventional polycrystalline cathode materials that are composed of spherical aggregates of submicron-scale primary particles. These structural features of the single-crystalline cathode materials improve the long-term cycling performance and rate capability of an ASSB configured with an argyrodite–Li 6 PS 5 Cl solid electrolyte. This is mainly attributed to the intimate interfacial solid–solid contacts and enhanced diffusion kinetics induced by the monolithic morphology of the single-crystalline cathode materials in the electrode. Moreover, undesirable microcrack formation and particle fracture in cathode materials are effectively suppressed during cycling. Air filtration technology for mitigating pollution due to harmful mixtures of particulate matter (PMs) and yellow dust has been continuously improved. However, significantly small-sized airborne contaminants, such as PM 2.5 , and toxic gases, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), remain in the atmosphere and critically affect the human health. Therefore, the development of an integrated filtration system with fast detection and high removal efficiency toward various airborne pollutants without significant interference from airflow is required. Herein, we designed a hybrid air filtration system comprising a colorimetric multi-scale nanofiber (NF)/nanonet (NN) membrane and a metal–organic framework (MOF)-decorated mesh substrate to remove PM 2.5 and toxic gases in the air. The electrospinning of a halochromic dye (bromocresol purple; BCP) with a polyacrylonitrile solution spontaneously forms spider-web-like NN networks between NFs, which significantly improves the filtration efficiency, particularly for sub-120 nm aerosol particles with a high quality factor of 0.0387 Pa−1. The BCP components in the NF/NN membrane demonstrated ultrafast and reversible colorimetric sensing properties within 5 s when exposed to 20 ppm ammonia gas. Furthermore, the adsorptive UiO-66-NH 2 MOF-grown macroporous mesh contributes to the removal of acetaldehyde as well as provides an efficient membrane support with negligible increase in the pressure drop. High-quality perovskite absorber is the basis for obtaining high-performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, a novel perovskite film post-treatment method, called high-pressure cooking (HPC) process, was developed to prepare ultra-flat perovskite films, with highly ordered perovskite grains and monolayer structures. The various carrier dynamic characterizations indicated high-quality perovskite grains from HPC treatment contributing to the improvement of transmission speed and collection efficiency of the photogenerated carriers, as well as reducing the defects assisted recombination loss. • • A zeolite-type CoFe selenite was discovered via a facile in-situ transformation of LDH. • •This fabricated electrocatalyst exhibits superior OER activity in 1 M KOH electrolyte. • •Its unique structure and composition are favorable for the activity of the active sites. • • The present study provides a new insight into developing highly active OER catalysts. It is of significant importance and a great challenge to explore new electrocatalysts with highly activity and durability, above all, high mass activity and rapid kinetics, for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to the demand for clean energy. In this work, we prepared a three-dimensional (3D) CoFe-based zemannite-type selenite (KCFS) via in situ transformation of CoFe-layered double hydroxide (LDH) as both the precursor and template. The as-prepared CoFe-selenite affords low overpotential in 1.0 M KOH on glass carbon electrode (η@10 mA cm−2 = 274 mV) with Tafel slope of 45.6 mV dec−1, indicating rapid kinetics, in addition, keeps high current density around 10 mA/cm2 at least 50 h when applied voltage of 1.51 V. The excellent electrocatalytic performance of KCFS could be mainly attributed to its unique zeolite structure and compositions with bimetallic centres and SeO 3 oxyanion, besides, it exhibits nanoellipsoid rough-surface morphology and hierarchical pores, which is beneficial to the enhanced exposure of the active sites, as well as the mass/charge transport and the electrolyte diffusion. In this work, we developed an immunologically modified nanoplatform, using ovalbumin (OVA)-coated PEGylated MnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles (NPs) loaded with R837 immunoadjuvant (R837-OVA-PEG-MnFe 2 O 4 NPs) to synergize PTT and immunotherapy for the treatment of breast cancer. The designed R837-OVA-PEG-MnFe 2 O 4 NPs are able to elicit significant immune responses in vitro and in vivo. MnFe 2 O 4 NPs also allowed for a reduction of systemic immunosuppression through downregulation of M2-associated cytokines. More importantly, the R837-OVA-PEG-MnFe 2 O 4 NPs under laser irradiation effectively inhibited tumor growth and prevented lung metastases, leading to a prolonged survival time and improved survival rate. In addition, the designed multitasking MnFe 2 O 4 NPs showed as a desirable contrast agent for magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to diagnose orthotopic breast tumor in vivo. • A naphthalene imide dimer was developed and used as an interfacial material. • 2FBT2NDI layer achieves efficient surface passivation and electron extraction. • The modified PSCs show superior photovoltaic performance (20.1%). • 2FBT2NDI could be used to obtain commercializable high-performance PSCs. How to design and synthesize interfacial engineered materials that have efficient surface passivation and electron extraction properties is an important problem in the field of optoelectronic materials. Herein, a simple naphthalene imide dimer, namely 2FBT2NDI, is developed by Stille coupling reaction with a high yield, and it is used as interface engineering material for inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Owing to the existence of intermolecular interactions between MAPbI 3 and the 2FBT2NDI layer, the introduction of the interfacial layer can passivate the surface defects of perovskite film and improve interface contact. In addition, 2FBT2NDI exhibits suitable energy levels and high electron mobility because of its large linear conjugated skeleton containing two fluorine atoms, which are beneficial for electron extraction for efficient PSCs. By employing 2FBT2NDI as an interfacial layer, inverted PSCs show a maximum power conversion efficiency of 20.1%, which is over 14% higher than that of the control devices without interfacial layer (17.1%). Fullerene derivatives are promising electron transporting materials for low-temperature processed inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, fullerene derivatives have some disadvantages, e.g. [6,6]-phenyl C 61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) has unmanageable morphology, low electron mobility and easily generated non-radiative recombination, which restrict the performance of PSCs. Herein, a novel n-type small organic molecule, homologous perylene diimide tetramer (HPDT), is designed and synthesized in this work to engineer the interface properties by enhancing interface contact, decreasing energetic barrier and recombination losses. HPDT shows suitable energy levels and high electron mobility and thus will increase the electron mobility during interface engineering in the inverted PSCs. Moreover, coating HPDT on top of perovskite prior to the deposition of PCBM is helpful to achieve a homogeneous pinhole-free PCBM layer, leading to enhanced power conversion efficiency from 17.38% up to 19.75% for inverted MAPbI 3 PSCs along with a negligible hysteresis.
