Photo-thermal superhydrophobic surfaces with photo-thermal effect exhibit huge potential for anti-icing/deicing, but are limited by their dependency on light. Alternatively, electro-thermal surfaces, while effective, lead to significant energy consumption. Here, we design an all-weather anti-icing/deicing superhydrophobic surface (PESHS), which combines photo-thermal and electro-thermal effects to overcome these limitations. The PESHS with mechanical durability is fabricated by depositing TiC nanoparticles on micro porous structures that is constructed by the atypical localized pitting etching. This design results in excellent solar absorptance (98.5 %) and effective Joule heating capabilities, enabling the temperature to heat up by 65oC under 1-sun illumination and 35oC at a power density of 0.2 W/cm2. In addition to effectively extend the icing delay time (∼ 450 s at å−15oC) under higher relative humidity conditions (> 80 %), the PESHS can quickly melt and remove ice and frost accumulated on the surface. Even in extremely cold conditions of -60oC, the PESHS still possesses anti-freezing performance. Facing abrasion and corrosion environments, the excellent all-weather anti-icing/deicing performances of the PESHS are maintained by the superior mechanical robustness of micro/nano structures, offering a widespread prospect for practical industry and agricultural applications in complex and harsh environments. • Light-insensitive Ag(I)/Ag(0) composite sites are constructed in MOFs for adsorptive desulfurization. • Ag(0) nanoheaters precisely heat Ag(I) by converting visible light to energy for efficient desorption. • The adsorbent shows stable performance after multiple cycles. The π-complexation between Ag(I) and thiophene sulfides is considered as one of the key factors to selectively remove thiophenic compounds, but its application is very limited due to the instability of Ag(I) under light as well as the energy-intensive regeneration. In this study, stable and photothermal Ag(I)/Ag(0) composite sites are constructed in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and act as target-specific adsorption sites for the uptake of thiophenic compounds. Partial Ag(0) nanoparticles that were in situ introduced in MOF pores are oxidized to Ag(I). As a result, Ag(I) becomes light-insensitive because the light-induced electron of Ag(I) can be transferred to the integrated Ag(0) nanoparticles, protecting Ag(I) from reduction. Furthermore, Ag(0) nanoparticles are photothermal due to the localized surface plasmon resonance, thus can precisely heat Ag(I) for desorption by converting visible light to energy. Ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) coupled with CO oxidation is a promising approach for simultaneous removal of NO x and CO. However, finding a bifunctional catalyst that can effectively facilitate both reactions remains a significant challenge. This study investigates the enhancing effect of Cu+-Sm3+-O v -Ti4+ asymmetric active sites on the oxidation reaction of NH 3 -SCR coupled with CO oxidation. The traditional Cu/TiO 2 catalyst can achieve a maximum NO x conversion of 75 % at 225 °C, while the CuSmOTi catalyst can achieve 100 % NO x conversion at 200 °C. The successful construction of the asymmetric active site leads to an increase in Cu+ content, producing abundant oxygen vacancies, accelerating the redox cycle in the reaction process, and improving the adsorption capacity of CO. Additionally, compared with the 8.4 % Cu dispersion on the Cu/TiO 2 catalyst, the Cu dispersion on the SmCuOTi catalyst is as high as 75.0 %, which improves the reduction performance of the catalyst. A large number of Lewis acid sites optimize the activation and adsorption of the catalyst to the reactants. In-situ DRIFTS analysis indicates that the NH 3 -SCR reaction on the CuSmOTi catalyst primarily follows the (E-R) mechanism, while CO oxidation follows the (MvK) mechanism. Moreover, the formation of a significant number of amide intermediates during the reaction process enhances the N 2 selectivity. These findings present a novel concept of utilizing asymmetric active sites in NH 3 -SCR coupled with CO oxidation reactions, provides valuable insights for achieving the complete removal of nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide in the case of "0″ by-products. Aerobic granular sludge (AGS) has been recently studied and developed as a way to circumvent the poor settling and biomass retention capacity of conventional activated sludge. While it is known that AGS allows the simultaneous presence of oxic and anoxic zones on the surface or within granules, respectively, the actual composition dynamics of those granules in relation to their underlying wastewater influent have receive little attention. The main goal of this study is thus to assess the relationship between wastewater composition, microbial community structure and epistylis abundance. Two SBRs (sequencing batch reactors) comprising the same inoculum and fed with either domestic or synthetic wastewater were used in this regard. The more complex composition of domestic wastewater promoted a higher bacterial richness than their synthetic counterparts. Indeed, the vast majority of the bacterial community in the SBR fed with synthetic wastewater was dominated by the genus Thauera . The SBR fed with domestic wastewater also showed a more thorough granulation and greater treatment efficiency. Surprisingly, the abundance of epistylis was positively correlated with remaining suspended solids, hinting that ciliates might be responsible for SS (suspended solids) removal and would be a desirable trait to include in wastewater treatment plants. In sum, our study gives insight into the differing population dynamics shaped by domestic and synthetic wastewaters inoculated with the same initial consortium, along with their overall pollutant removal efficiency. The establishment of a strongly coupled heterojunction interface between composite metal oxide interfaces is an important strategy to improve the activity of CO-SCR catalysts. A CuCoO 2 modified CeO 2 catalyst (H-CuCo-CeO 2) was synthesized by a hydrothermal method, which exhibited a wide low-temperature activity window, achieved 100 % NO conversion at 175 °C and showed excellent performance in terms of resistance to H 2 O and SO 2. Based on the results of XPS, Raman, OSC and in situ DRIFTS test, the mechanism of the H-CuCo-CeO 2 catalyst in the CO-SCR reaction was systematically investigated to reveal the influence of the heterojunction interfaces of the catalyst on the reaction performance. The results show that the modification of the CuCoO 2 structure promotes the migration of Cu n+ species between the layers of the H-CuCo-CeO 2 catalyst and increases the surface Cu+-O-Cu+ active sites, while greatly promoting the formation of oxygen vacancies (O2–(ads) → O-(ads)) on the catalyst surface. In addition, the increased concentration of oxygen vacancies also effectively promoted the dissociation of NO to [N] to produce N 2 and transferred the dissociated [O] species to the active site to further complete the degradation of CO. This work not only provides an idea for the study of strongly coupled CuCoO 2 -CeO 2 heterojunction interfaces, but also provides an efficient denitrification catalyst for air pollution control. Biochar, known as a byproduct of biomass pyrolysis, was prepared from rice straw (R6), tobacco straw (T6), corn straw (C6), wheat straw (W6), millet straw (M6), and black bean straw (B6) in high purity nitrogen at 600 °C. Chlorine (Cl) non-thermal plasma was used to increase Cl active sites on biochar to promote the mercury removal efficiency. The physio-chemical properties of biochar were characterized by proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, BET, SEM, TGA, FTIR, and XPS. Modification by chlorine plasma increased the Hg 0 removal efficiency of the biochar from around 8.0% to 80.0%. The Hg 0 adsorption capacity of T6 was 36 times higher after Cl 2 plasma modification. Plasma caused the biochar surface to become porous and promoted the thermal stability of the biochar. Sulfur (S) content remained in the range of 0.5–0.7%, elemental/organic sulfur and sulfide were converted to sulfate during plasma treatment. The relative intensity of the oxygen functional groups (C O, C O and C(O) O C) were enhanced, while the content of oxygen (O) in biochar decreased. The main reason for the improved mercury removal efficiency by modified biochars was attributed to the increased number of C Cl groups on the surface of the biochars induced by Cl 2 plasma. • Novel CuMgFeO catalyst derived from CuMgFe-LDH materials prepared by co-precipitation method. • The CuMgFeO catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance in both the NH 3 -SCR and CO oxidation. • The CuMgFeO catalyst possessed the redox ability and surface acidity concurrently. • The CO oxidation and NH 3 -SCR reaction mechanism was proposed based on in situ DRIFTS. • The mechanism related to the deactivation of CuMgFeO catalyst in the presence of SO 2 was revealed. The NH 3 -SCR and CO oxidation reactions provides a promising route for the synergistic removal of NO x and CO. Herein, a novel two-dimensional CuMgFeO layered double oxides by the co-precipitation method and employed it for the NH 3 -SCR and CO oxidation reactions. The catalytic activity results showed that the CuMgFeO sample reached 96.8 % NO conversion at 250 °C, and 100 % CO conversion in temperature of 200–300 °C. Impressively, the CuMgFeO catalyst showed outstanding N 2 selectivity, water resistance, and maintained splendid long-term catalytic stability. The superior NH 3 -SCR and CO oxidation activity of CuMgFeO catalyst can be related to the well dispersion of CuO species, higher reducibility, and abundance of acid sites. Meanwhile, XPS analysis indicated that the presence of electron transfer between the Cu2+ and Fe3+ redox cycles, as well as adsorbed oxygen on the sample surface were the main reactive oxygen species. The in situ DRIFT species indicate that the NH 3 -SCR reaction over CuMgFeO catalysts mainly complied with the E-R mechanism, while the CO oxidation followed the L-H mechanism. Finally, the deactivation mechanism of SO 2 was investigated by in situ DRIFT species, indicating that SO 2 hinders the NH 3 -SCR reaction through competition with NH 3 and NO x for adsorption sites and the formation of ammonium sulfate salts. This work provides insight into the simultaneous implementation of the NH 3 -SCR and CO oxidation reactions on a single catalyst, which is of great value for the future synergistic control of flue gas pollutants. In this study, the effects of fluorine doping of HAp and fluoride ions concentration on the sorption behavior of U(VI) by hydroxyapatite (HAp) were investigated. The results demonstrated that the sorption equilibrium of U(VI) on fluorine-doped hydroxyapatite and hydroxyapatite was reached by 75 min of contact time, and the maximum sorption of U(VI) was achieved at a low pH initial value of 3. The pseudo-second order model described the kinetic sorption processes, whereas the Langmuir model and the sorption isotherm process indicated that the mechanism was chemisorption on a homogeneous material. The calculated thermodynamic parameters suggested the sorption of U(VI) on materials was a spontaneous and endothermic process. In particular, we determined that a high concentration of fluorine ions in solution markedly decreased the U(VI) sorption capacity, whereas fluorine doping also lowered the U(VI) sorption by HAp. However, fluorine doping increased the stability of HAp in acidic conditions. In addition, it is unlikely that UO 2 F + and UO 2 F 2(aq) species adsorbed via F atoms to the adsorbents, as the oxygen atoms or uranium atoms of uranyl ions are already bonded to F atoms, and F − is likely to form U–F complexes first rather than exchange for OH − when the solution contain uranium with very high concentration. The findings reported in this study aid in facilitating the removal of uranium from solutions using HAp and other materials, especially from fluorine–uranium radioactive wastewater in the environment. Capturing CO 2 directly from the atmosphere using chemicals (air capture) is a strategic approach to mitigate global warming. Before the widespread deployment of air capture, technical challenges, such as the poor kinetics under ultra-low CO 2 concentrations, must be addressed. This work aims to characterize and optimize the mass transfer process of a novel moisture swing adsorption method for air capture. The phase inversion technique is employed to fabricate a heterogeneous structured sorbent. The modified shrinking core model and a revolving bed reactor are developed to evaluate the adsorption kinetics. The sorbents exhibit significant diffusion-controlled kinetics under most of the measurement conditions. The effects of ambient conditions on kinetics, such as temperature and relative humidity, were investigated. The diffusion and chemical reaction rate drop sharply as the temperature decreases from 20 to 0 °C. The relative humidity shows a more obvious effect on the chemical reaction than on the physical diffusion process due to the mechanisms of hydration water involved in the chemical reaction. On the other hand, reducing the size of the sorbent particles to several micrometers could effectively avoid the substantial reduction in the adsorption rate under lower temperatures. Recently, phenolic resin has been a promising precursor to synthesize electrospun carbon ultrafine fibers with well-controlled pore structure favorable for CO 2 capture. We report the facile and large-scale preparation of freestanding microporous carbon ultrafine fibers from resole-type phenolic resin by electrospinning and following one-step carbonization, and investigate for the first time their CO 2 adsorption performance at ambient temperature. The obtained samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and N 2 adsorption. Small average diameter of 820 nm, high specific surface area (650 m 2 g −1 ) and narrow micropore size distribution are associated with the prepared fibers. Remarkably, the ultrafine fibers possess much more ultra-small micropores (0.50–0.63 nm) than common polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon nanofibers and commercial porous carbon samples. With such well-designed structure, the resultant fibers show outstanding CO 2 equilibrium adsorption capacities and good reversibility. At 25 °C, the stable capture capacity of the fiber is 2.92 mmol g −1 at 1 bar and 0.44 mmol g −1 at 40 mbar, which offers great potentials for CO 2 capture and storage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

But unfortunately, this promising signal amplification means still confront with some inevitable defects such as poor accuracy, inferior bio-stability and unsatisfactory biological uptake efficiency. To deal with these challenges, we propose here a series of rewarding sensing designs. First, an exceptional light-gated manner is integrated by embedding the sensing elements with a photocleavage-linker, under which the target specific recognition is capable of being initiated in a faultless control mode under a light irradiation. Then, dual DNA tetrahedrons are employed to anchor the linear DNA probes on their endpoints to significantly improve the enzyme resistance in complex biological medium. After that, a two-dimensional nanomaterial (MnO 2 nanosheets) that can be efficiently reduced by biothiols is selected as an auxiliary nanovector to promote the endocytosis. By virtue of these efforts, this special biosensor is endowed with a good assay performance towards an underlying lung cancer related biomarker (microRNA-196a), wherein the sensitivity is as low as 3.2 pM and the specificity owns an identification ability for single-base mismatching. With an innovatively synthesized X-shaped tetramine monomer 4,4',4'',4'''-(1H,3'H-[5,5'-bibenzo[d]imidazole]) tetraaniline with imidazole groups, a series of novel sulfonated polyimide membranes with covalent self-crosslinking and branching structures (sc-bSPI-x) are designed and prepared for application in vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). The synergistic effects of protonated imidazole and sulfonic acid are supposed to create proton transport channels and Donnan exclusion, leading to break the trade-off between proton conductance and vanadium ion resistance. Among all the prepared sc-bSPI-x membranes, the sc-bSPI-14 membrane with 14% theoretical cross-linking degree shows the highest ion selectivity (2.78 × 105 S min cm−3), which is about 6.5 times of commercial Nafion 212 membrane (0.43 × 105 S min cm−3). The VRFB performances including self-discharge time, coulombic and energy efficiencies at 80–200 mA cm−2 of sc-bSPI-14 membrane are superior to those of Nafion 212 membrane (sc-bSPI-14: self-discharge time 46 h, CE = 97.6–99.2% and EE = 82.9–63.2%; Nafion 212: self-discharge time 11 h, CE = 86.5–94.5% and EE = 78.4–61.4%). Meanwhile, the 1000-time cycling charge–discharge test of sc-bSPI-14 membrane at 140 mA cm−2 is performed, demonstrating its outstanding operational stability. Wearable strain sensors with high sensitivity and linear resistance signal response to strain are urgently demanded for human–machine interface, which can be tuned by introducing uneven surface mechanics distribution onto fiber surfaces via structural heterogeneity for fibrous elastomer fiber mat sensors. Yet it is still of great challenge to build micro- or nano-scale heterogeneous structures on fiber surfaces in a facile and scalable way without using templates. Herein, we report a plastic nanosphere-decorated elastomer fiber mat strain sensor with a zoned surface strain energy release characteristic, designed based on analysis of material match and structural mechanics. Surface mechanics analysis confirms that the as-designed sensor shows a controllable strain energy release area, significantly improving sensing stability thanks to effective restriction of micro-crack propagation in conductive pathways. In particular, fibrous mat sensor with high-density nanospheres shows very low fluctuation in strain sensitivity variation (±0.05 for strain ≤ 30 %), i.e., good linearity in the resistance response to strain, while that for the control sensor is ± 10.0 for strain ≤ 16 %. Such a fiber mat strain sensor can not only be applied for real-time sensing of object deformations for human–machine interface and intelligent control, but also in hydrophobic porous elastomeric packaging materials and triboelectric devices. Ammonifying microorganisms (Amm) play a crucial role in the global utilization of agricultural solid residue, but the mechanism of their action in the stabilization and carbon transformation of agricultural solid residue composting remains unclear. In this work, different treatments, including Control, Amm-1, Amm-2, Amm-3, and Amm-4, were established for co-composting of cow manure and wheat husk to investigate the action mechanism of Amm in composting stabilization and carbon conversion. The findings indicated that the Amm inoculation facilitated the decrease of total organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon, CO 2 productions, and CH 4 emissions by 35.13 ∼ 37.28 %, 15.61 ∼ 16.78 %, 1.75 % ∼ 32.38 %, and 10.30 %∼ 18.01 %, respectively. Among the treatments. The inoculation of Amm-4 immensely showed the highest improvement effect on the organic solid residue humification and carbon transformation process, with the final compost product showed high stability and favorable performance on improving crop growth. Further mechanism analysis suggested that the Amm inoculation optimized humification-related enzyme activity and fungal community structure, enhanced the humus formation, increased the humification index, and promoted the stabilization of final product. Abstract: Microwave acid purification with H2SO4 was performed on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) synthesised by fluidised-bed chemical vapour deposition (CVD) to remove Fe catalysts and Al2O3 substrates. The surface of these purified MWNTs was then modified with HNO3 under the influence of an ultrasonic field followed by functionalised with Pt nanoparticles in methanol expanded with supercritical CO2. The weight loss profile of the purified sample treated at 200°C under microwave irradiation shows the MWNT purity to be 96.5wt%. TEM images of Pt functionalised MWNTs show that Pt nanoparticles of approximately 4nm were deposited on the outer tube walls. SEM/EDX results confirm that the Pt nanoparticles were mono-sized and evenly distributed. Raman spectroscopy suggested that supercritical processing conditions can repair wall defects in MWNTs. Abstract: The metal-organic framework, MOF-5 (Zn4O(BDC)3), was prepared using solvothermal synthesis under microwave irradiation, followed by solvent exchange to improve molecular stability at high temperatures, and assessed for its ability to capture CO2 at ambient pressure and temperatures up to 300°C. The reaction product was characterised by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, N2 physisorption, thermogravimetric analysis and CO2 physisorption. Cyclic CO2 physisorption showed the capacity of the MOF-5 crystals to be 3.61wt% when cycled between 30°C and 300°C through 10 separate capture and release cycles. Constructing heterostructure-based full-solar-light-driven photocatalysts is a sensible method for widening the solar light response and accelerating charge migration. This review comprehensively summarizes progress in heterostructure development for use in full-solar-light-driven photocatalytic systems, including basic photo-response theory, photocatalytic mechanisms, and applications including environmental decontamination, water-splitting, CO 2 conversion, and photocatalytic oxidation reactions. This review provides an in-depth discussion regarding the fundamental principles associated with solar-light harvesting and efficient charge migration that are crucial for heterostructure design. • Selective adsorption of Au (III) from multi-metallic solution. • Adsorption-photoreduction of Au (III) to Au (0) under UV mercury light exposure. • Adsorption mechanism validated by characterization and DFT calculation. In this paper, a novel technique combining ion-imprinting and direct templating was applied to synthesize Au (III) imprinted epicholorohydrin/thiourea modified porous alginate adsorbent. The adsorbent has demonstrated outstanding selectivity towards Au (III) from multi-metallic solutions, and the porous structure generated from urea hydrolysis has provided fast adsorption kinetics. The maximum uptake capacity of Au (III) is 184.82 mg/g at 323 K, which is outstanding as a recyclable polysaccharide-based adsorbent. Microwave-absorbing materials (MAMs) for applications such as aircraft protective layers and ship side panels often need to take into account the actual working conditions. Conventional MAMs are often difficult to take into account special functional requirements such as mechanics, high temperature, de-icing, etc. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop MAMs with harsh environmental adaptability and multifunctional requirements. Here, we utilize SiO 2 microspheres and phenolic resin to prepare precursor foams, and through calcination, we have prepared closed-cell SiC/C foam composites with both microwave absorption properties, mechanical properties and thermal properties. The effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of the samples is up to 6.9 GHz at a thickness of 7.3 mm, which can satisfy the perfect coverage of the C-band, and can be further broadened by structural design. The samples can satisfy the full coverage of the X-band at 200 °C. The samples have loaded properties, and the maximum compressive strength of the samples is up to 10.5 mm. The samples are loaded with a maximum compression strength of 8 MPa, support repeated medium-temperature heating, and maintain a compression performance of 5.7 MPa after heating. The samples have good thermal conductivity and Joule thermal properties, and the surface temperature can be rapidly increased under the condition of applying a heat source or applying a low pressure to cope with the cold and humid working conditions. Specifically, industrial waste blast furnace slag was used to prepare a support material called BHF, which possesses three pore structures: micropores, mesopores, and macropores. This unique structure facilitates high loading of organic amines and improves CO 2 adsorption effectiveness. To counteract agglomeration effects caused by loading large amounts of organic amines, the morphology and skeleton of the carrier material were analyzed in detail. The results showed that the rough "hive" morphology, disordered cell-like skeleton structure and abundant pores of BHF allows for uniform dispersion of polyethyleneimine (PEHA), an organic amine, and provides advantageous transportation of CO 2 molecules within the adsorbent. Based on the study of kinetics, activation energy, and isosteric heat of adsorption, the adsorption mechanism of 70PEHA-BHF was determined to be a chemical-physical binding adsorption. The adsorption-diffusion mechanism suggests that the rate-limiting step is film diffusion. Furthermore, the 70PEHA-BHF adsorbent achieves a balance between CO 2 adsorption capacity and cycle stability. At 80 °C and 15 vol.% CO 2 , the CO 2 adsorption capacity of 70PEHA-BHF is 6.27 mmol/g, with only a 1.43 % CO 2 loss after 10 cycles of testing. Co-contaminant of hexavalent chromium [Cr(Ⅵ)] and nitrogen in wastewaters produce serious environmental problems. However, it remains little in the way of continuous flow biological reactor to concurrently eliminated Cr(Ⅵ) and nitrogen in wastewater. Here, a single membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) system was employed to achieve synergistic Cr(Ⅵ) and nitrogen removal. Cr(Ⅵ) and nitrogen removal performances, Cr(VI) reduction products, and microorganism functional groups characteristics, as well as microbial community structure and functional genes were investigated. Moreover, we revealed the role of "secretion", potentially secreted by the biofilm, in nitrogen and Cr(Ⅵ) degradation. Results indicated that the Cr(Ⅵ) removal efficiency and simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) rate reached 90.60 ± 1.45 % and 96.03 ± 1.47 %, respectively, when the influent Cr(Ⅵ) concentration reached 50 mg/L. Cr(Ⅵ) was mainly reduced to Cr(Ⅲ), which was attached to biofilm and secretion surfaces. Microorganism functional groups, including carbonyl (C = O), carboxyl (O-C = O) and hydroxyl (OH–) played an essential role in the adsorption and chelation of Cr(III). Acinetobacter , Lentimicrobium , NS11-12 marine group and Hydrogenophaga were identified as the main Cr(Ⅵ) reducers and denitrifiers. The abundance of genes related to Cr(VI) reduction and nitrogen transformation increased notably in both the biofilm (NasA , ChrR) and secretion (NemA , NfsAB , AzoR) systems under high Cr(VI) stress. Separation process facilitated by selective adsorption of chemical reagents can be modulated through an in-depth understanding of reagent-surface interaction, which is of both fundamental and practical importance in a wide range of industrial applications. Hydroxamate is a class of widely used reagents in chemical and mineral engineering that can selectively adsorb on certain minerals (e.g., malachite, wolframite and rare-earth minerals) to facilitate their separation from polymetallic ores by froth flotation. In this study, the hydroxamate-mineral interaction has been probed at nanoscale using atomic force microscopy (AFM), where the hydroxamate-functionalized tips were fabricated by self-assembly of a novel reagent S -[(2-hydroxyamino)-2-oxoethyl]- N , N -dimethyl-dithiocarbamate (HAOMDC) on Au tips. The adhesion energy between hydroxamate-functionalized tip and wolframite was found much higher than that with calcite and quartz, attributed to the stronger bonding between hydroxamate groups and surface Fe atoms of wolframite. Under alkaline condition, the deprotonated hydroxamate groups, due to stronger electron donating power, exhibited enhanced adhesion on wolframite and calcite as compared to that under acidic condition. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results showed the adsorption of octyl hydroxamic acid (OHA) on wolframite possibly via the formation of five-membered-ring structure. The AFM force results support the froth flotation data that OHA exhibits superior selectivity for wolframite against calcite and quartz. This work provides a useful approach to evaluate the reagent-solid interaction in selective separation processes, with implications for the development of novel chemical additives in many engineering and environmental applications. One-dimensional multispecies model on membrane-aerated biofilm (MAB) containing ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA), nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) and heterotrophic bacteria (HB), the initial fraction of which were 55%, 15% and 30%, respectively, was successfully developed and simulated by AQUASIM 2.1 to comprehend effects of temperature, aeration pressure and influent COD/N ratio on the nitrogen removal performance for the wastewater treatment of low-leveled ammonia nitrogen (5 gN/m 3 ). Results indicated that it’s applicable to decrease the aeration pressure for inhibiting the NOB activity and maintaining the total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiency under higher temperatures. Microbial distribution inside the MAB revealed that through moderately increasing the COD/N ratio at 293 K and the aeration pressure of 0.1 atm, the oxygen competition among AOA, NOB and aerobic HB could be better balanced with TN removal efficiency improved, demonstrating the feasibility of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification via nitrite. It’s been evaluated that with increased aeration pressures, higher TN removal efficiency could be achieved through the short-cut denitrification by improving the COD/N ratio to enhance the outperformance of aerobic HB over NOB for oxygen while substantially maintaining the AOA activity. And the denitrification process could be better performed in the biofilm adjacent to the bulk liquid by anaerobic HB utilizing soluble organics from the hydrolysis of slowly-degradable particulates to reduce the nitrite. The simulation results would be of great importance for the design, operation and optimization of AOA-dominating MAB applied in the nitrogen removal from micro-polluted wastewater. A novel cobalt(II) ion-imprinted polymer (Co(II)-IIP) was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR), Energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and N 2 adsorption–desorption experiments. Batch experiments were conducted to evaluate its removal performance towards Co(II). The polymer exhibited an excellent adsorption ability on Co(II) with a saturation adsorption capacity of 175 mg g −1 , which is almost the highest adsorption capacity of ion-imprinted adsorbents on cobalt(II) ion until now. Moreover, there is an encouraging selectivity to other coexisted heavy metal ions. In particular, the selectivity coefficient of Co(II)-IIP to Nickel ( k (Co/Ni)Co(II)-IIP = 4.17) is far more than that of the non-ion imprinted polymer (NIP, k (Co/Ni)NIP = 0.74), which implies that the synthetic imprinted material is successful, and the cobalt(II) ions play the role of a template function. This work provides the first example of an ion-imprinted polymer induced by MOFs, which will introduce new opportunities to the functionalization of MOFs to remove heavy metal ions and radioactive nuclides. A novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) UiO-66-Schiff base was successfully synthesized by post-synthetic modification to investigate the cobalt sorption behaviour in simulated wastewater. The thermodynamic and kinetic parameters demonstrated the sorption process to be spontaneous, endothermic and pseudo-second-order chemisorption. The maximum cobalt sorption capacity of the synthetic MOFs was approximately 256 mg g −1 , and the stable and porous Schiff base-derived material displayed excellent regenerated availability with at least five recycle applications. Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed to explore the coordination modes between cobalt ions and ligands in UiO-66-Schiff base, which revealed that the Schiff base group could take cobalt (II) from cobalt ions hydrates [Co(H 2 O) 6 ] 2+ and Co-CHES (Co-2-(cyclohexylamino)-ethane sulfonic acid) complex [Co(CHES)(H 2 O) 5 ] + to form [CoL N (H 2 O) 5 ] 2+ or [CoL O (H 2 O) 4 ] + . This study offers a facile approach for developing Schiff base modification MOF sorption of cobalt (II) ions from aqueous solutions and provides theoretical and practical guidance on new MOF designs for selective removal of radionuclides. In this study, we reported a strategy of interfacial regulation of surface-modified Ag aerogels (Ag AGs) for high-performance CO 2 RR. The 5-mercapto-1-methyltetrazole (MMT)-modified Ag AGs (MMT@Ag AGs) in H-type cell added with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), achieved CO Faraday efficiency (FE CO) greater than 95 % in a wide potential window of −0.5 V to −1.2 V vs. RHE, along with the maximum Energy Efficiency (EE CO) of 73.74 % at −0.5 V vs. RHE. In flow cell, the combination of MMT@Ag AGs + CTAB could deliver an excellent FE CO of 98.5 % under industrial current density of 300 mA cm - 2 and 40 h stability at 100 mA cm - 2 . Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations illustrated that the *COOH formation energy on Ag AGs was decreased and the adsorption of *COOH was stabilized after modified with MMT. The adsorption arrangement of CTAB on the electrode surface depressed the side reaction of HER. The synergetic integration of living microorganisms and nonliving matrices into a new artificial micro-ecological system is a crucial challenge in bio-manufacturing especially towards the development of sustainable energy technology. Here we develop a way of creating a Shewanella oneidensis based conductive micro-niche to boost hydrogen production by integrating graphene, polydopamine and alginate. We reveal that both the respiratory metabolism induces localized hypoxic conditions inside the micro-niche and the wired-up extracellular electron reverses transfer pathway from the outer environment to the periplasmic hydrogenases, contributing to the enhanced hydrogen production rate which is about 12.7 folds enhancement compared with that of the free Shewanella oneidensis in solution. Significantly, the whole assembly process shows good biocompatibility, ensuring that the Shewanella oneidensis inside the micro-niche could maintain hydrogen production for 30 days. The extreme temperatures encountered in aerospace pose formidable challenges to the performance of elastic materials in spacecraft and related apparatus. Traditional organic insulation materials face hindrance due to inadequate fire resistance, while inorganic insulation materials are often brittle. Herein, we designed binary-network composite aerogels with dual-crosslinked PI nanofibers as the scaffold and uniformly distributed silica nanoparticles within the anisotropic aerogel matrix. Owing to the dual-crosslinked PI nanofiber network, the resulting PI@SiO 2 aerogel can withstand 1000 cycles of radial fatigue testing under 50 % compressive or buckling strains, maintaining structural stability across a wide angular frequency range of 0.1–100 rad/s. DMA testing shows that PI@SiO 2 aerogel can endure 100,000 fatigue cycles from 25 to 300 °C, with storage modulus and loss modulus, and damping ratio, indicating robust long-term performance over a wide temperature spectrum. Even with liquid nitrogen (−196 °C) and butane torch flames (1100 °C), PI@SiO 2 aerogel preserves its superelasticity through repeated compressions. Moreover, the composite aerogel exhibits excellent thermal insulation, with low thermal conductivity (27.2 mW m−1 K−1), and reachs the top flame-retardant level (UL94-V0). In this paper, 4,5-dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzyl methacrylate (MONMA) was copolymerized with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and tert -butyl methacrylate (TBMA) to obtain the terpolymer with dual sensitivity of ultraviolet (UV) light and acid, P(MONMA-HEMA-TBMA). The nonionic photosensitive ester, 4,5-dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzyl p -toluene sulfonate (MONS), is designed and synthesized as the prime photoacid generator (PAG) because of excellent photoacid generating capability of MONS and the similar substituted structure between MONS and MONMA. The ester groups in MONS PAG small molecules and the MONMA units of P(MONMA-HEMA-TBMA) disintegrate under UV irradiation to generate free diffused sulfonic acids and localized carboxylic acids, respectively. Both free and localized acids facilitate the subsequent acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of TBMA adjacent to MONMA units to induce exponential growth of carboxylic acids. Therefore, the hydrolyzed polymers containing high-content carboxylic acids become soluble in the alkaline developer. Hydrophilic HEMA is introduced to the photoresist resin to improve the interfacial affinity between the resist and the substrate. Dual synergy effect from free photoacid generator MONS and polymerized photoacid unit MONMA enhances photoacid generation and accelerates acid proliferation, which enables the decreased exposure dose and lower content of free photoacid generator MONS. A series of novel chemical amplification photoresists with various methacrylate monomer ratios are designed and synthesized to optimize the photolithographic effect of photoresist resin. In this study, the variation of acute toxicity and transformation characteristics of BP-1 during the combined UV-chlorine disinfection process were explored. The acute toxicity of reaction mixtures was significantly higher than that of BP-1, a key toxic product (2-chloro-3-hydroxyl-6-benzoyl benzoquinone) was successfully identified, whose toxicity was about 40 times higher than BP-1. It was firstly found that 1O 2 played crucial role in the toxic products formation during UV alone and combined UV-chlorine systems. Element doping is a common and effective method for improving the electrochemical performance of cathode materials, and typically it can be divided into cation ion and anion ion doping. Among the cathode materials of sodium-ion batteries, the important layered oxide cathodes mainly include those of O3 and P2 types, according to the sites of Na ions and the number of oxide layer packings. Hereon, the successful transformation of O3-type cathode NaNi 0.45 Mn 0.4 Ti 0.1 Co 0.05 O 2 (O3-NMTCO) into P2-type cathode of NaNi 0.45 Mn 0.4 Ti 0.1 Co 0.05 O 2 -0.08LiF (P2-LNMTCOF) is achieved via a facile Li/F co-doping route. The modified P2-type cathode (P2-LNMTCOF) have main three advantages over the traditional P2-type cathode Na 0.7 Ni 0.45 Mn 0.4 Ti 0.1 Co 0.05 O 2 (P2-NMTCO): higher Na content, solid solution reaction in high-voltage range, and stronger TM-F bond. As a result, the current P2-LNMTCOF cathode shows the best cycling performance, with the initial capacity of about 160 mA h g−1 and the capacity retention of 61% after 200 cycles. In addition, because of the more stable TM-O (F) octahedron, the voltage drop during cycling has been effectively suppressed. Solid amine materials are promising adsorbents for CO 2 capture from biogas, flue gas and other similar gas mixture. Here, tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA)-impregnated porous polymeric resin (ADS-17) with very high CO 2 adsorption capacity was successfully prepared. Its CO 2 separation performance from simulated biogas was investigated by breakthrough experiments. And the influence of parameters such as TEPA loading, adsorption temperature and flow rate on the adsorption behaviours were studied in detail. The optimal TEPA loading was 40 wt% (ADS-17–40%TEPA) and the CO 2 adsorption capacity of this adsorbent reached the optimal value (ca. 264.2 mg▪g−1) at the flow rate of 200 mL▪min−1. The CO 2 adsorption capacity of ADS-17–40%TEPA had no pronounced change from 25 °C to 70 °C, but it decreased obviously when the adsorbent was heated to 90 °C. At 100 °C, the adsorption capacity became negligible. According to detailed characterization, it was inferred that the pores of ADS-17–40%TEPA in the range of 13–115 nm were probably responsible for CO 2 diffusion. In addition, ADS-17–40%TEPA possessed good reversibility and the CO 2 adsorption capacity was nearly stable after two adsorption–desorption cycles. In this work, a novel porous cross-linked polyimide membrane (PCrPI) with ultrahigh chemical stability is prepared by using β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as a template. The unique cross-linking structure and imidazole group with Donnan effect of PCrPI membrane can effectively hinder the migration of vanadium ions. Meanwhile, the imidazole group and porous structure of the PCrPI membrane can also enhance ionic transfer and reduce area resistance. In VRFB tests, the PCrPI membrane exhibits higher coulomb efficiency (CE : 96.3–99.6%) and energy efficiency (EE : 67.9–88.9%) than commercial Nafion 212 membrane (CE : 74.3–94.8%; EE : 67.7–77.5%) at the current density of 40–200 mA cm−2. In addition, the charge–discharge cycles of VRFB with the PCrPI membrane are performed 2250 times, and the running time of PCrPI-10 membrane is among the top level compared with previously reported membranes. Meanwhile, the excellent durability of PCrPI-10 membrane is also explained through theoretical calculation with natural bond orbital charge and binding energy. (SCL) to agricultural environment and ecosystem diversity was explored and further utilization was demonstrated by stripping and purification of raw SCL to three-dimensional crosslinked SCL-based cellulose aerogel (SCL-CA) with polyethylene glycol (PEG) as green cross-linking agent. After dopamine (DA) in situ polymerized on the SCL-CA surface, PDA@SCL-CA exhibits a high evaporation rate of 2.05 kg m−2 h−1 with photothermal conversion efficiency of 95.5 % under one sun upon the customized evaporation equipment with simulated seawater. The result is much better than that of other state-of-art samples due to the unique 3D-macro interlaced structure and hierarchical microcapillary structure of overpass bridge-shaped cellulose chains. The excellent outdoor experiment further demonstrated the practical application owing to the full solar spectrum absorption, superhydrophilicity, anti-salinity, robust structure, etc. Especially, the design strategy can be universal, and PPY@SCL-CA modified with polymerized pyrrole (PPY) can also work as a highly efficient photothermal material. The mild synthesis methods and abundant sources of raw material render it possible to fabricate efficient photothermal materials on a large scale, realizing the control of biological invasive species and resource utilization. Lead-free dielectric ceramic capacitors are attracting much interest in pulse power systems owing to their fast charge/discharge rate and high power density. However, their development towards integration and miniaturization in electronic devices has been severely impeded by low energy storage performance (ESP) under low electric field (E). Herein, a synergistic optimization strategy of composition design and domain engineering was proposed in the Bi(Mg 0.5 Hf 0.5)O 3 -modified Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 -Sr 0.7 Bi 0.2 Ca 0.1 TiO 3 ceramics [(1- x)(NBT-SBCT)- x BMH], aiming to improve ESP at low E. As a result, an ultrahigh recoverable energy density (W rec) of ∼5.9 J/cm3 and a high efficiency (η) of ∼85 % can be obtained in x = 0.20 ceramics under a low E of 260 kV/cm, which is superior to previously reported lead-free materials under the equivalent E. The outstanding W rec is mainly ascribed to the ultrahigh polarization discrepancy (Δ P) of ∼50.8 μC/cm2 since the rich hybridization of Bi 6 s and O 2 p orbitals maintains a maximum polarization and the addition of Mg2+ and Hf4+ transforms the long-range ferroelectric order into polar nanoregions (PNRs) with good relaxation characteristics. Moreover, a fast discharge time (∼62 ns), good temperature (20–120 °C) and frequency (1–103 Hz) stabilities, and excellent fatigue resistance (×105 cycles) can be concurrently realized in x = 0.20 ceramics. Solid polymer electrolytes (PIBCPEs) are prepared by doping poly(vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafluoropropylene) in poly(ionic liquid) block copolymers. Herein, self-healing SPEs (PIBCPEs) have been fabricated by doping poly(vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) in poly(ionic liquid) (PIL) block copolymers. The imidazole cations of the PIL blocks and the oxygen atoms in the poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) blocks and the -CF 3 dipoles in PVDF-HFP formed dual ion–dipole interactions, which not only endowed PIBCPEs with outstanding self-healing capability, but also facilitated lithium ion transport. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation results exhibited rapid transport of lithium ions in the continuous phase formed by microphase separation. In addition, the electrostatic attraction of the imidazole cations to TFSI- increased lithium ion transference number. PIBCPEs also possessed excellent thermal stability, electrochemical oxidation stability, and good interfacial stability. Based on these advantages, the assembled LiFePO 4 /PIBCPE_27/Li cell exhibited a high discharge capacity at 0.5 C with capacity retention of 97.1 % after 250 cycles. Importantly, PIBCPEs could restore its ionic conductivity and cycling performance of cell after self-healing, showing a broad potential for applications in flexible and secure wearable device. In this work, we have designed a novel anode of three-dimensional porous interconnected carbon matrix embedded with Sb nanoparticles (Sb ⊂ 3DPC) via a scalable and facile polymer-blowing and galvanic replacement route. This designed electrode architecture provides large surface areas, large pore volumes and interconnected pore frameworks, supplying enlarged interface of the electrolyte and electrode, reducing the diffusion pathway and inhibiting the volume expansion of Sb during cyclic movement. The as-prepared Sb ⊂ 3DPC anode shows high Na-storage performance, such as an outstanding cycle stability (461 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1 over 200 cycles) and exceptional high rate capability (349 mA h g−1 at 5000 mA g−1). Some plants and insects exhibit superhydrophobicity in nature. Inspired by this, many researchers have designed superhydrophobic surfaces by studying the structures of those plants and animals. Hence, man-made superhydrophobic surfaces have gained tremendous interest because they can be used in diverse fields. Superhydrophobicity occurs by combining micro-/nanoscale rough structures with low surface energy materials to produce a water-repelling surface. However, superhydrophobic surfaces have not been able to be used in real life applications because of their poor durability and short life span. Self-healing is a good strategy to increase the resilience and life span of a superhydrophobic surface. It has been suggested that embedding a superhydrophobic surface with a self-healing ability will extend the lifespan of the surface for practical applications. A lot of reviews talk about superhydrophobic surfaces but very few discuss self-healing superhydrophobic surfaces. In this review, recent progress in the fabrication of self-healing superhydrophobic surfaces, characterization, applications of superhydrophobic surfaces and different methods for fabrication are discussed. • The addition of RM complements the silica-aluminum phase of the FGS system. • The maximum acceptance of alkali by the FGS system is characterized. • FGS has the potential to be used as a non-load bearing material in engineering. • Heavy metals are stabilized by gel adsorption and precipitation. Municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MFA) and Bayer red mud (RM) were coprocessed with geopolymer technology. The two wastes were used as precursors to synthesize a geopolymer. The ratio of the two wastes and the amount of alkali used, and their effects on the properties of the geopolymer, were investigated. The mechanical properties, mineral compositions, and IR spectra indicated that a 56 d compressive strength of 13.11 MPa was achieved for samples made with 40% MFA and 60% RM and the addition of 7% Na 2 O as the alkali. The alkaline conditions enabled dissolution of the raw materials, a phase change of the aluminosilicate, and a higher degree of polymerization for the gel products. The SEM–EDS and leaching tests showed that gel networks consisting of N-A-S-H and C-(A)-S-H gels immobilized heavy metals by physical wrapping and chemical bonding. Although various wastewater treatment systems have been reported to be capable of transforming antibiotics, there is limited knowledge regarding the potential degradation of antibiotics through microbiological processes in a membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) system. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the metabolism of tetracycline (TC) and nitrogen in a MABR system. Results showed that the TC can initially be adsorbed by extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and subsequently biodegraded into 17 low toxic intermediates by microbes, demonstrating that MABR could complete TC biotransformation with disruption of its chemical structure. The biodegradation pathways of TC were proposed, which mainly contained demethylation, deamination, hydroxylation, dehydration, dihydroxylation, bond cleavage and ring opening. The analysis of high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technology showed the existence of a diverse microbial community with varied metabolic pathways in the counter-diffusion biofilm system. Results demonstrated that nitrogen removal in the MABR system occurred through multiple pathways, including traditional autotrophic nitrification-heterotrophic denitrification, heterotrophic nitrification, aerobic denitrification, and autotrophic denitrification. Additionally, both tetracycline degrading bacteria (TDB) and archaea (TDA) coexisted in the MABR system, among which Methylophilus could contribute to the demethylation, while Rhizobium , Hydrogenophaga and Ramlibacter were crucial in cracking of aromatic ring for TC biodegradation. As a kind of long-established and widely used food preservative, the lipophilic gas sulfur dioxide (SO 2) has been shown a broad-spectrum antimicrobial property, moreover, the endogenous physiological effects of SO 2 found in mammals in recent years further suggest its biological tolerance. However, the uncontrolled release and inconvenienced storage of free SO 2 gas limit its biological antibacterial applications. Herein, we constructed a water-soluble dendronized chitooligosaccharide polymer Cos-G3-Dns with glutathione-responsive SO 2 -releasing property via a one-step copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne click reaction for antibacterial application. The polymer Cos-G3-Dns exhibited remarkable antibacterial activity in vitro against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa). The effective antibacterial effect of Cos-G3-Dns was also demonstrated in vivo by the Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) MRSA-infection model assay. Moreover, Cos-G3-Dns displayed high biocompatibility, as no significant cytotoxicity and hemolysis of Cos-G3-Dns were observed at the effective antimicrobial concentration. Such uniform ternary FeS@TiO 2 @C nanotubes were facilely prepared by sulfuration of FeTiO 3 @C nanotubes, which were obtained by a one-pot annealing of TiO 2 -coated Fe-MOF nanorods. Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have received considerable attention for large-scale energy storage applications due to the unique merits of high energy density, eco-friendliness and reliable safety. However, the development of high performance cathodes is still hampered by their inferior reversibility and sluggish Zn2+ diffusion kinetics, resulting in insufficient rate capability and poor cycling performances. Herein, we employed a feasible "two-in-one" strategy to intercalate conductive polymer (polyaniline, PANI) as pillar molecules into the V-MOF-derived hierarchical porous V 2 O 5 (designated as PVO) and used as cathode for high-performance ZIBs. The high specific surface area and nanobelt-like porous structure endowed PVO with abundant accessible electrochemical active sites and shortened the electrons/ions transfer pathways, further delivering a high discharge capacity (489 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 and 97.2% capacity retention after 100 cycles). Meanwhile, the intercalation of PANI not only effectively expanded the Zn2+ diffusion channels, but also improved the structural stability during cycling as "interlayer pillars". More importantly, the introduction of PANI could enhance the conductivity of the overall structure and weaken the electrostatic interaction between Zn2+ and PVO host, thereby suppressing the collapse of the layered structure. Accordingly, the obtained PVO cathode exhibited excellent rate capability (375 mAh g−1 at 5.0 A g−1) and satisfactory cycling stability (91.8% capacity retention after 2000 cycles at 8.0 A g−1). Microwave absorbers with the high-efficiency photothermal conversion performance are currently lacking but significantly desired as they can provide a sufficient heat energy besides the absorption property. Herein, Ti 3 C 2 /Ni 2 P/triphenyl phosphite (TPOP-Ti 3 C 2 /Ni 2 P) composite was synthesized by an ingenious one-pot solution-phase reaction and proved to be a superior antioxidative microwave absorbent with excellent photothermal properties. Ni 2 P can effectively optimize the impedance match of Ti 3 C 2 MXene and consequently improve its microwave absorption (MA) performance. Results show that the minimum reflection loss value of TPOP-Ti 3 C 2 /Ni 2 P is −57.87 dB at 10.88 GHz, the maximum effective absorption bandwidth is 5.04 GHz, and the thickness is merely 1.8 mm. Notably, TPOP on the MXene surface can serve simultaneously as an antioxidative stabilizer and a capping agent to improve its hydrophobicity and chemical stability. The average water contact angle of TPOP-Ti 3 C 2 /Ni 2 P is prompted to 96.59°, while the average oil contact angle is 26.02°. Moreover, compared with the pure Ti 3 C 2 , TPOP-Ti 3 C 2 /Ni 2 P has an obvious antioxidant stability in aqueous solution. Additionally, Ni 2 P nanoparticles exhibit a dipole resonance mode under illumination conditions, which enhances the surface absorption capability of visible light. The surface temperature of the natural rubber film after introducing TPOP-Ti 3 C 2 /Ni 2 P increased rapidly under simulated light, showing a high photothermal conversion ability. Furthermore, the MA performance of the composite film remains basically unchanged, whether is repeatedly bent or exposed under a harsh sun. This study provides a new strategy for manufacturing MA materials with efficient photothermal properties for the possible application to design wearable devices that can combine electromagnetic protection and self-generated heat.
