The real-time monitoring of human temperature can facilitate efficient family health supervision, disaster diagnosis, and treatment. To meet these requirements, there is an urgent need to develop fibre-based temperature sensors with high sensitivity, fast response rates, and excellent stability. This study investigated the positive temperature characteristics of a stretchable and strain-insensitive temperature sensor with a chemically modified silver nanowire (AgNW). The regulation of the surface polymer on the AgNWs using a conductive ligand of polyaniline-L-cysteine ethyl ester hydrochloride (PANI-LCO) improved the network conductivity by decreasing the junction resistance. In addition, the pristine flexibility and helicoid structure of a spandex polyurethane (SP) covered yarn substrate proved advantageous for the ultra-stretchability of the temperature sensor. Therefore, the synergistic effect of the PANI-LCO-AgNWs and the substrate endowed the composite fibre-based temperature sensor with a high-temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 47.4%/°C and a high stretchability of up to 120%. Furthermore, this study investigated the actual characteristics of the sensor required for the high-performance monitoring of human temperatures. Moreover, theoretical calculations of the electrical distribution of the PANI-LCO ligands further confirmed the experimental chemical modification. A fibre-based temperature sensor can be integrated and woven or sewn onto a cloth or glove with high adaptability. Nanowire-assisted electroporation is regarded as an effective point-of-use disinfection technique for drinking water, and its performance under direct voltage (DV, U) supply is limited by the poor bacterial inactivation on cathode and bacterial adsorption-fouling on anode. Herein, square-wave alternating voltage (SWAV, ± U) was applied on nanowire electrodes to periodically reverse the cathodic/anodic polarity and their repulsions/attractions with bacterial cells, in turn promoting cell inactivation and fouling resistance. As compared with the gradual decrease in cell inactivation by the biofouling on nanowire anode under DV supply, SWAV supply enabled stable and efficient disinfection with ∼ 2 log higher cell inactivation and ∼ 3 times lower energy consumption (0.32–11.3 Wh/m3/log at 1.0–3.0 V) for various G- (Escherichia coli and Acinetobacter schindleri) and G+ (Enterococcus faecalis and Bacillus cereus) bacteria in deionized water, tap water and lake water. The cell morphology observation, flow cytometry analyses, and quenching experiments of reactive species revealed that electroporation on nanowire interfaces with locally enhanced electric field was the main mechanism for bacterial inactivation under voltages below 3.0 V. It was revealed that reversion of electrophoretic and electrostatic attractions under SWAV supply regulated cell migration, adsorption and desorption on nanowire interface, resulting in cell inactivation and fouling resistance on both nanowire electrodes. Conventional chlorination (Cl 2) is inefficient to eliminate intracellular antibiotic resistance genes (i-ARGs) of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) due to the chlorine permeation barrier and oxidative competition of cell wall/membrane. Herein, we proposed an efficient strategy by constructing synergistic nanowire-induced electroporation (DC-EP) and Cl 2 (DC-EP/Cl 2) with H 2 -reduced TiO 2 nanowire (TiO x NW) electrodes, attempting to promote i-ARG removal via DC-EP-induced cell damage for chlorine permeation and i-ARG leakage. DC-EP/Cl 2 (∼3.7 log and ∼ 60.5 J/L/log) exhibited excellent synergistic effects for ARB inactivation (Escherichia coli) and i-ARG removal (tet(W) , aac(3)-II , and bla TEM – 1), which achieved much larger i-ARG removal and lower energy consumption than the individual 1.5 V-DC-EP (∼0.05 log) and 10 mg/L-Cl 2 (∼0.5 log and ∼ 262.0 J/L/log). Analyses of i-ARG/e-ARG abundances, bacterial cell integrity, and cell morphology indicated that DC-EP-induced cell pores provided channels of chlorine permeation, which was accompanied with oxidative enlargement of cell pores for i-ARG leakage and subsequent degradation. DC-EP/Cl 2 exhibited 15–90 times lower frequency of horizontal gene transfer than the individual Cl 2 disinfection. The TiO x NW-based DC-EP/Cl 2 exhibited excellent stability of i-ARG removal (undetectable ARG abundance and ∼ 20.3 J/L/log) for treating 103 CFU/mL ARB-contaminated tap water within 7-day continuous operation, suggesting its great application potential to alleviate ARG dissemination risk for drinking water. DNA molecular probes have been increasingly used for biological imaging and tumor theranostics. In particular, live-cell imaging of low abundance microRNA (miRNA) with high accuracy and efficiency was extremely important for understanding functions and dynamics of miRNA. Herein, an easy-to-obtain DNA-nucleated spherical nucleic acid (DSNA) was constructed by one pair of hairpin probes "sticked" on self-assembled three-dimensional (3D) urchin-like DNA nanostructures (UDNs) to realize sensitive imaging of tumor-related miRNA in living cells. UDNs were prepared through four short single-stranded DNA by a simple "one-pot" annealing process that took only a few minutes. Moreover, sticking the reactants of hairpin probes on the UDNs not only sped up the reaction kinetic rate, but also improved the sensitivity and efficiency of miRNA-triggered hairpin cascade circuits. Compared with traditional AuNP-based spherical nucleic acid, the DSNA possessed superb biocompatibility and stability, excellent cell internalization capability and accessibility, which endowed them tremendous advantages for the monitoring of miRNA in living cells. Ionogels have a bright prospect for low-grade heat harvesting due to their advantages of non-volatility and high thermal stability. However, it is still challenging to develop ionogels with mechanical robustness and high thermoelectric properties. This work reports a carboxymethylated and Na+ doped bacterial cellulose-based ionogel (CBCIG-Na) with synergistically increased mechanical and thermoelectric performances. The enhancement of thermoelectric properties of ionogels is mainly attributed to the increase of ion transport pathways and the mobility difference between anions and cations in ionic liquid. After the modification, the CBCIG-Na ionogel with 0.5 mol% Na+ (CBCIG-Na 0.5%) exhibits high Seebeck coefficient (45.02 mV K−1), ionic conductivity (21.2 mS cm−1) and ionic power factor (4296.82 μW m−1 K−2) when the relative humidity (RH) is 85 %. This is the highest ionic power factor ever reported for bacterial cellulose-based ionogels. Moreover, the CBCIG-Na 0.5% shows high tensile strength (7.69 MPa) due to the larger 3D fiber network and enhanced intermolecular force, obvious adhesivity (9.28 kPa) and high transparence (76 %). After that, a flexible i-TE device containing 5 legs and packaged with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was constructed. A high thermovoltage of 264.36 mV is generated when wearing the i-TE device (5 legs) on the forearm at room temperature (ΔT = 1.2 K). Practical applications of conversion-type metal selenide electrodes in potassium ion batteries (PIBs) encounter multiple challenges, such as particle aggregation, the shuttle effect, and pulverization during cycling. We design a Janus heterostructure, namely CoSe 2 -FeSe 2 /graphite/N-doped carbon (CFS//g@NC), with dual heterojunctions (p-n and Schottky junction), which generates the synergistic effect to enhance interface charge storage and improve electrode structure integrity. When the Janus heterostructure is used as a PIB anode, it demonstrates high-rate performance up to 10 A/g, offering a capacity of 200 mA h g−1 and excellent cycling stability of over 2500 cycles at 0.5 A/g. According to the density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the diffusion barrier of K ions on CFS//g@NC is two times lower than that on CoSe 2 or FeSe 2. The distribution of n-type and p-type semiconductors in the Janus particles has been confirmed by quantitative assessment through dark-field electron microscopy. In addition to the p-n junction crossing two semiconductor interfaces, the Schottky junction between the graphite layer derived from Prussian blue analogues (PBA) and the semiconductor also creates a built-in electric field, thus enhancing ion/electron transport and increasing the diffusion of potassium ions. In this study, to overcome the problems of photo corrosion and structural instability, an attempt was made to construct a semiconductor heterojunction with MOF that can resist photo corrosion and reduction to adjust the electron (e−) transport path. The crystal stability and photo corrosion resistance are improved by creating Z-type heterojunctions to change the electron transfer path of Ag photocatalysts. MOFs have unique optical, electrical, and catalytic properties and thus play a key role in optimizing electron transfer pathways. Even if a semiconductor-catalyst heterojunction is constructed, migration-matched catalysts induce a cascade of crystal reduction and photo corrosion in a built-in electric field. At this time, PENS provides an electron acceptor platform, which can temporarily store photoelectrons, prevent the decrease of photoelectrons to the crystal, and improve electron transfer efficiency. The degradation of antibiotics and dyes assessed the resulting impact on photocatalytic efficiency under simulated sunlight, and photocatalytic activity was measured with an eye toward real outdoor applications. Due to the synergistic effect of the double self-cleaning structure, the ultrafiltration membrane exhibits superhydrophilic/underwater superoleophobic properties. It shows excellent separation efficiency and recyclability in the separation of oil-in-water emulsion experiments. This study fabricated PENS/TA/ZIF-67@Ag 2 S (PZA), a double self-cleaning network antifouling polymer membrane reactor, by the non-solvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) method. Due to the synergistic effect of the double self-cleaning structure, it showed an excellent separation efficiency of 99.65% and a high flux of 1198.011 L·m−2·h−1 in the separation of oil-in-water emulsion experiments. After eight cycles, Oil-water separation efficiency remains >99% recyclable. The Z-type heterogeneous conjunctival reactor we constructed has a high-efficiency degradation rate of 99.94% and a mineralization rate of 80.315% for sulfamethoxazole (SMX) within 120 min. From the results of mechanical properties, TGA and DSC, it can be seen that PZA has good strength, toughness and high temperature resistance. Aiming at efficient tetracycline (TC) removal, a co-modified (Zr/Ce)U(NH 2) was elaborately designed and integrated with thin-layered g-C 3 N 4 , forming a novel (Zr/Ce)U(NH 2)@CN Z-scheme heterojunction. XRD, XPS, FTIR, ISI-XPS and other analysis cooperatively demonstrated that within this (Zr/Ce)U(NH 2)@CN composite organic linkers H 2 BDC was successfully modified by –NH 2 , metal Zr in Zr-oxo cluster was partially substituted by Ce, Z-scheme heterojunction was formed by the close interaction between MOFs and g-C 3 N 4 , as well as the excellent thermal stability and large specific surface area were achieved. Since g-C 3 N 4 could serve as carrier skeleton to improve the precursor dispersion, the (Zr/Ce)U(NH 2) with reduced particle size grew densely on it. DRS, PL and TRPL characterization proved more photogenerated carriers with prolonged lifetime were generated. As expected, (Zr/Ce)U(NH 2)@CN composite exhibited high TC degradation rate, whose kinetic constant was 23.73 times greater than that of UiO-66, and 5.89 folds larger than that of CN, respectively. This enhanced photocatalytic performance was ascribed to the effective electron transfer regulated by MOFs unit, where the Zr/Ce improved the electron transfer from photoexcited organic linkers to metal-oxo clusters, as well as the MOFs/g-C 3 N 4 Z-scheme heterojunction strengthened interfacial photogenerated carriers transfer. ·OH was the vital species responsible for TC removal using (Zr/Ce)U(NH 2)@CN. Furthermore, intermediate products and degradation pathways were proposed based on HPLC-MS. • Hydrophilic polyester with excellent hydrophilicity was synthesized. • Asymmetric structure polyester fiber with hydrothermal responsiveness was designed. • The metafabric can dynamically adjust temperature and humidity to maintain comfort. • Scalable industrial technology endows the metafabric of great application value. The world needs to consume a huge amount of energy every year, in order to make the human body feel hydrothermal comfort. Applying the concept of hydrothermal-adaptive adjustment to microclimate management in textiles can greatly reduce energy consumption. However, it is difficult to achieve dynamic hydrothermal control of textiles without external electronics. In this study, we have successfully prepared a metafabric with bi-component asymmetric structured polyester fibers as the structural unit, and exploited the differential responses of the two components to heat and humidity to intelligently control the pore size of the metafabric, achieving non-electric intelligent regulation of the hydrothermal microclimate. Compared with traditional polyester fabrics, this metafabric can achieve an additional 6.1 °C and about 55 % moisture permeability adjustment under the condition of temperature and humidity switching. This scalable and low-cost technology provides great potential for solving the comfort of individuals working in harsh environments, such as medical workers, athletes, and astronauts. Electrocatalytical water splitting to produce hydrogen energy is a promising green technology to solve energy crisis and environmental issues. The development of highly efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts is crucial for mass hydrogen production from water splitting. We newly assemble the self-standing 3D NiFe-LDH@CoS x /NF bifunctional electrocatalysts, via the electrodeposition of amorphous CoS x on two-dimensional (2D) NiFe-LDH nanosheets which are supported by porous nickel foam (NF). The integration of HER-active electrocatalyst of CoS x with outstanding OER catalyst of NiFe-LDH guarantees the bifunctional electrocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the formation of the constructed interfaces between amorphous CoS x and NiFe-LDH nanosheets synergistically favors the electron transfer. Therefore, this novel NiFe-LDH@CoS x /NF hierarchical assembly needs ultralow overpotentials of 136 mV (for HER) and 206 mV (for OER) to afford the 10 mA cm−2 current density in alkaline medium (1 M KOH). An electrolyzer based on the NiFe-LDH@CoS x /NF produces an extremely low cell voltage (1.537 V) and good durability. Using solar energy to realize photoreduction of CO 2 into valuable chemicals is a potential way to solve energy crisis and carbon cycle. Due to the extremely stable molecular configuration of CO 2 , activating CO 2 molecule is the key and difficult step in the whole CO 2 conversation process. In this work, we used density functional theory (DFT) to calculate the reaction pathways of CO 2 to CO on pure g-C 3 N 4 and single-atom cobalt (Co) modified g-C 3 N 4. Theoretical calculation predicts that single-atom Co sites modified g-C 3 N 4 (Co-CN) possess stronger CO 2 adsorption ability and lower barrier of CO 2 hydrogenation activation than pure g-C 3 N 4. The strong interaction between Co 3d electrons and C 2p electrons of CO 2 is the crucial factor to activate C = O bonds of CO 2 molecule. Better CO 2 adsorption and activation abilities also are proved in Co-CN by CO 2 adsorption, temperature programmed desorption (TPD), and sensor tests. As a result, the optimal 1%Co-CN exhibits higher CO yield of 94.9 umol/g/h than pure g-C 3 N 4 (0.25 umol/g/h). • Preparing a bifacial electrode by coupling praseodymium-PEG-PbO 2 with TiO 2 nanotubes. • Efficient removal of acetaminophen in terms of the parent compound and COD. • More toxic intermediates generate during photoelectrocatalysis. • The global toxicity increased in the first 60 min of treatment. A bifacial electrode—praseodymium-polyethylene glycol-PbO 2 //Ti//TiO 2 -nanotubes—was prepared for the photoelectrocatalytic degradation of acetaminophen. The physicochemical properties of the bifacial electrode (e.g. morphology, structure, light absorption, and electrochemical behavior) were systematically characterized. The effects of solution pH, electrolyte concentration, and current density on the removal of acetaminophen were investigated. With this bifacial electrode, approximately 97% of acetaminophen and 73% of chemical oxygen demand could be removed in 180 min. Compared with photocatalysis and electrocatalysis alone, the photoelectrocatalytic process exhibited a higher average current efficiency and lower energy consumption. This improved performance was attributed to the enhancement of the generation of reactive oxygen species (e.g. HO· and H 2 O 2). Additionally, the intermediates generated in photoelectrocatalytic processes were identified, and two possible degradation pathways were proposed (i.e. direct degradation by HO· attack and acetaminophen dimerization). The ECOSAR prediction based on the molecular structure of intermediates revealed that some products more toxic than parent compounds were formed during photoelectrocatalysis. The acute toxicity test results confirmed that the global toxicity of the treated solution increased in the first 60 min of treatment. Generally, identifying the intermediates and characterizing the evolution of toxicity is important in the acetaminophen-related wastewater treatment for minimizing the potential ecological risks of effluents. • Enhanced light absorption was obtained by incorporating γ-Fe 2 O 3 , GO and MIL-53 (Fe). • γ-Fe 2 O 3 /MIL-53 micro-heterojunction facilitated carriers' separation inside MOF crystal. • GO regulated the morphology and textural properties of MIL-53(Fe) matrix. • GO further extracted electrons from γ-Fe 2 O 3 -MIL-53 units and increased quantum yield. • h+ and ·OH were the main active species in γ-Fe 2 O 3 -MIL-53(Fe)-GO photocatalytic system. Special enhanced synergistic effect of ultra-small γ-Fe 2 O 3 and graphene oxide (GO) on MIL-53 (Fe) was achieved for boosting photocatalysis. Compared to traditional methods of surface coverage, the incorporation of γ-Fe 2 O 3 (average size 2–3 nm) inside MOFs particles not only increased the light absorption of catalyst, but also formed numerous micro-heterojunctions with MOFs units and thus effectively facilitated the separation of photogenerated carriers. By supplying attachment sites for MOFs crystal, the functionalized GO reduced the size of MOFs particles to 100–200 nm, meanwhile improved their dispersibility. The active sites and quantum yield of photocatalytic reaction were also intensified benefiting from the large surface area and high electronic conductivity of GO. Therefore, the novel γ-Fe 2 O 3 -MIL-53(Fe)-GO composite exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity towards norfloxacin, with a removal rate of 92.8% in 90 min. The kinetic constant was 4.49-fold higher than that using pure MIL-53 (Fe), and 1.43-time greater than that in the system of MIL-53 (Fe) and hydrogen peroxide, which usually acted as efficient electron acceptors to increase the quantum yield and final photocatalytic performance of MOFs. Based on the identified intermediates, three NOR degradation pathways including the cleavage of piperazine ring, defluorination and decarboxylation, as well as the conversion of quinolones group were proposed. Photocatalytic mechanism investigation revealed the holes and hydroxyl radicals came from the reaction of electrons with oxygen played the important role in γ-Fe 2 O 3 -MIL-53(Fe)-GO photocatalysis.
