Dehydration of 2-(3,3-dimethyl-1-oxo-2,3,4,5,10,11-hexahydro-1H-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]-diazepin-11-yl)benzoic acid (3a) and 2-(3,3-dimethyl-1-oxo-2,3,4,5,10,11-hexahydro-1H-dibenzo[b,e] [1,4]diazepin-11-yl)-5,6-dimethoxybenzoic acid (3b) in boiling acetic or propionic anhydride gave 7,7-dimethyl-4b,7,8,9-tetrahydro-6H-dibenzo[2,3:5,6][1,4]diazepino[7,1-a]-isoindole-5,15-dione (5a) and 1,2-dimethoxy-7,7-dimethyl-4b,7,8,9-tetrahydro-6H-dibenzo-[2,3:5,6][1,4]diazepino[7,1-a]isoindole-5,15-dione (5b), respectively. The products obtained are representatives of a novel fused pentacyclic system. The structures of compounds 3b and 5a were unambiguously proved by X-ray diffraction.

New aminophthalides (III) are synthesized by reaction of o-formylbenzoic acid with substituted 2-aminothiophenes.

A new synthesis of phthalimidines is described. 3-Acyloxy-2-aryl- and 2-acylamino-3-acyloxyphthalimidines were prepared by the reaction of 3-arylaminophthalides or o-formylbenzoic acid acylhydrazones with acetic or propionic anhydrides. Their reactions with O-, N-, S-, and C-nucleophiles were studied. The structure of 2-acetyl(cyanoacetyl)amino-3-acetoxyindolin-1-one was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Heating the title quinoxalinones such as (I) and (III) with sulfur in DMF results in a rearrangement accompanied by elimination of the acyl groups.

5-(3,5-Di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,2,3,5-tetrahydrophenazine was synthesized by the reaction of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-1,4-benzoquinone-4-(o-aminophenyl)imine with cyclohexanone. The structure of the reaction product was established by X-ray diffraction.

In this study, a low melting temperature organic chloroaluminate salt was mixed with AlCl 3 -NaCl to form a low melting temperature mixture. The organic chloroaluminate salt utilized was a mixture of AlCl 3 and 1-methyl-3-ethylimidazolium chloride (MEICl), resulting in AlCl 3 -MEICl. The electrolyte for this investigation is a combination of AlCl 3 -NaCl and AlCl 3 -MEICl salts, resulting in the ternary AlCl 3 -MEICl-NaCl system

A convenient reaction scheme has been developed for obtaining 3,4-di(methylene)tetrahydrothiophene-1,2-dioxide from the readily available 3,4-dimethyl-2,4-dihydrothiophene-1,1-dioxide through 3,4-di(bromomethyl)-2,5-dihydrothiophene-1,1-dioxide. A feasibility study has been made of the use of the butadiene fragment of the heterocycle in a Dieb—Alder reaction with maleic acid derivatives, and the corresponding adducts have been obtained.

This Report reviews the use of molecular-beam reactive scattering to study the surface reactions of gas molecules on semiconductors which have relevance to microelectronic technologies. Modern semiconductor fabrication techniques rely heavily on dry processes where gas-surface reactions are the basic premise. This article focuses on the use of supersonic molecular-beam-surface scattering to study the dynamics and kinetics of surface reactions connected with the growth and etching processes on semiconductor surfaces. The discussion on growth processes covers the oxidation of silicon and germanium, the tungsten-hexafluoride-based tungsten deposition, and the organometallic chemical vapor deposition of gallium arsenide. The discussion on etching processes covers the halogen-based etching of gallium arsenide and silicon. An overview of the experimental technique and the underlying principles in surface-reaction dynamics and kinetics is included for readers in the technology area. The potential use of the molecular beams for actual semiconductor materials processing is also discussed.

Aminals of aromatico-hydroxyaldehydes react when heated with terminal acetylenes to form, depending on the reaction conditions and the nature of the starting compounds, 1,3-substituted propargylamines or 3H-2-vinylidene-3-aminobenzofuran derivatives, the structures of which were established by X-ray diffraction.
