In order to find complexes suitable as model compounds for oxidoreductases catalyzing reactions of the biological nitrogen cycle, Ru‐ and Mo‐nitrosyl complexes with the title ligands are prepared.

According to the scheme, the template alkylation of 1,2‐benzenedithiolate by bis(β‐bromoethyl) sulfide (III) yields Ru(CO)2(dpttd) which is thermally converted into the monocarbonyl complex (IV).

The mononitrosyl‐Fe(II) complexes (III) and (IV) are obtained from the CO analogues e.g. (I) and NOBF4(II).

In order to investigate specific properties of transition‐metal sulfur complexes, the compounds (IIIa) and (IIIb) are prepared by template alkylation of (I).

In order to explain the high reactivity of the Mo complex (III) towards tert. phosphines the structures of the seven‐coordinate trimethylphosphinedicarbonyl complex (I) and the six‐coordinate phosphine imidato complex (II) (for both space group P21/c, Z=4) are determined by X‐ray analysis and compared to structures of analogous complexes.

The diphenylphosphine‐substituted cyclophosphamide (III) is obtained according to the scheme.

Neutral and anionic complexes with the title metals are prepared by reacting the neutral sulfur ligands (I) and (II) or their alkali salts with the metal halides or alkoxides.

The substitution of one phosphine in (I) is coupled with S‐C bond cleavage.

The fac‐complexes (I) react with (II) to give the title compounds fac‐(III) together with the mer‐isomer (IV) in the case of (IIIa).

The question, how the energetically extremely unfavorable intermediates in nitrogenase reduction of N2are stabilized is answered by the complex (I) (P21/c, Z=2), which is a model complex for enzymatic nitrogen fixation in both a functional and a structural sense.

The reaction of (I) with hydrazine (II) involves an intermolecular reduction of the NO to a NH2O ligand.

The reaction of the As3‐nortricyclane (I) with halogenating agents in a molar ratio of 1:1 leads to the new title compounds (II).
