A direct asymmetric substitution was developed for the reaction of cyclic Morita–Baylis–Hillman alcohols with 3-benzyl-2-oxindoles that are catalyzed by a primary amine derived from alkaloids in combination with trifluoroacetic acid. The unusual δ-products with vicinal chiral quaternary and tertiary carbon centers were obtained as the major products in yields up to 73 % with excellent diastereoselectivities (up to 99:1) and enantioselectivities (up to 98 % ee).

A novel organocatalytic asymmetric α-alkylation of 2-oxindoles (I) with Michler′s alcohol (II) is described, which is catalyzed by the combination of a chiral bis-cinchona alkaloid and a Broensted acid.

The catalyst in combination with p-cyanobenzoic acid affords thioxo-1-tosylimidazolidine derivatives with high yields and stereoselectivities.

A chiral N,N′-dioxide—nickel(II) complex is applied in the asymmetric direct aldol reaction of α-isothiocyanato imide (I) with aromatic, α,-unsaturated, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic aldehydes are converted into the desired adducts with high enantioselectivities under mild conditions.

High chemical yields and good enantiomeric excesses are obtained by using soluble polymer-supported tartrate ester in the epoxidation of trans-hex-2-en-1-ol using Ti(OPri)4/tert-butyl hydroperoxide.
