By adopting a room-temperature grinding of the zinc acetate–oxalic acid powder mixture and a subsequent thermal decomposition reaction, agglomerated ZnO nanocrystals with diameters of 15–40 nm were prepared. A layered titanate H1.08Ti1.73O4 oriented thin film on stainless steel and Ti metal substrates was prepared by using an exfoliation-restacking technique. A novel layered zirconium phosphate [NH4]2[Zr(OH)3(PO4)] has been synthesized by using nonaqueous method in an ethylene glycol medium. The as-synthesized product was further characterized by means of single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, TG-DTA, CHN elemental analysis, and IR. The compound consists of macroanionic layers of [ZrPO7H3]2− separated by NH4+ cations.

A layered lithium nickel manganese oxide, Li1Ni1/3Mn2/3O2, has been hydrothermally prepared from a sandwich nickel manganese hydroxide–oxide precursor, Ni7Mn14O27(OH)10·nH2O, which has been hydrothermally synthesized at 200 °C by intercalating Ni(OH)2 into layered birnessite. In this precursor, MnO2 layer and Ni(OH)2 layer alternately pack together to form sandwich-like layered structure. The compounds were characterized by XRD and IR spectrum.

Lithiophorite with a sandwich layered structure which is constituted by stacking MnO6 octahedral and LiAl2(OH)6 octahedral sheets was prepared from a layer manganese oxide by using hydrothermal soft chemical process. In the first step lithium-aluminum hydroxide complex ions were inserted into the interlayer space of the layer manganese oxide by an ion-exchange reaction, and in the second step the ion-exchanged manganese oxide was hydrothermally treated to polymerize the complex ions in the interlayer space to form the sandwich layered structure.
