Compared with well-developed free space polarization converters, polarization conversion between TE and TM modes in the waveguide is generally considered to be caused by shape birefringence, like curvature, morphology of waveguide cross section and scattering. Here, we study the polarization conversion mechanism in 1-THz-FSR X-cut lithium niobate microrings with multiple-resonance condition, that is the conversion can be implemented by birefringence of waveguides, which will also introduce an avoided-mode crossing. In the experiment, we find that this mode crossing results in severe suppression of one sideband in local nondegenerate four-wave mixing and disrupts the cascaded four-wave mixing on this side. Simultaneously, we propose one two-dimensional method to simulate the eigenmodes (TE and TM) in X-cut microrings, and the mode crossing point. This work will provide one approach to the design of polarization converters and simulation for monolithic photonics integrated circuits, and may be helpful to the studies of missed temporal dissipative soliton formation in X-cut lithium niobate rings. We compared the photoluminescence (PL) properties of AlInAsSb digital alloy samples with different periods grown on GaSb (001) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Temperature-dependent S-shape behavior is observed and explained using a thermally activated redistribution model within a Gaussian distribution of localized states. There are two different mechanisms for the origin of the PL intensity quenching for the AlInAsSb digital alloy. The high-temperature activation energy E 1 is positively correlated with the interface thickness, whereas the low-temperature activation energy E 2 is negatively correlated with the interface thickness. A quantitative high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) study shows that the interface quality improves as the interface thickness increases. Our results confirm that E 1 comes from carrier trapping at a state in the InSb interface layer, while E 2 originates from the exciton binding energy due to the roughness of the AlAs interface layer. The threading dislocations (TDs) in GaAs/Si epitaxial layers due to the lattice mismatch seriously degrade the performance of the lasers grown on silicon. The insertion of InAs quantum dots (QDs) acting as dislocation filters is a pretty good alternative to solving this problem. In this paper, a finite element method (FEM) is proposed to calculate the critical condition for InAs/GaAs QDs bending TDs into interfacial misfit dislocations (MDs). Making a comparison of elastic strain energy between the two isolated systems, a reasonable result is obtained. The effect of the cap layer thickness and the base width of QDs on TD bending are studied, and the results show that the bending area ratio of single QD (the bending area divided by the area of the QD base) is evidently affected by the two factors. Moreover, we present a method to evaluate the bending capability of single-layer QDs and multi-layer QDs. For the QD with 24-nm base width and 5-nm cap layer thickness, taking the QD density of 1011 cmâˆ'2 into account, the bending area ratio of single-layer QDs (the area of bending TD divided by the area of QD layer) is about 38.71%. With inserting five-layer InAs QDs, the TD density decreases by 91.35%. We propose and realize a new optical state selection method on a cesium atomic fountain clock by applying a two-laser 3–3′ optical pumping configuration to spin polarize atoms. The atoms are prepared in |F = 3, mF = 0〉 clock state with optical pumping directly after being launched up, followed by a pushing beam to push away the atoms remaining in the |F = 4〉 state. With a state selection efficiency exceeding 92%, this optical method can substitute the traditional microwave state selection, and helps to develop a more compact physical package. A Ramsey fringe has been achieved with this optical state selection method, and a contrast of 90% is obtained with a full width half maximum of 0.92 Hz. The short-term frequency stability of 6.8 × 10−14 (τ/s)−1/2 is acquired. In addition, the number of detected atoms is increased by a factor of 1.7 with the optical state selection. Superconducting circuits based on Josephson junctions are regarded as one of the most promising technologies for the implementation of scalable quantum computers. This review presents the basic principles of superconducting qubits and shows the progress of quantum computing and quantum simulation based on superconducting qubits in recent years. The experimental realization of gate operations, readout, error correction codes, as well as some quantum algorithms are summarized, followed by an introduction of quantum simulation. Superconducting transition edge sensor (TES) bolometers require superconducting films to have controllable transition temperatures Tc in different practical applications. The value of Tc strongly affects thermal conductivity and thermal noise performance of TES detectors. Al films doped with Mn (Al–Mn) of different concentrations can accomplish tunable Tc. A magnetron sputtering machine is used to deposit the Al–Mn films in this study. Fabrication parameters including sputtering pressure and annealing process are studied and their influences on Tc and superconducting transition width ΔTc are optimized. The Al–Mn films with ΔTc below 1.0 mK for Tc in a range of 520 mK–580 mK are successfully fabricated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel super-junction LDMOS with low resistance channel (LRC), named LRC-LDMOS based on the silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology is proposed. The LRC is highly doped on the surface of the drift region, which can significantly reduce the specific on resistance (Ron,sp) in forward conduction. The charge compensation between the LRC, N-pillar, and P-pillar of the super-junction are adjusted to satisfy the charge balance, which can completely deplete the whole drift, thus the breakdown voltage (BV) is enhanced in reverse blocking. The three-dimensional (3D) simulation results show that the BV and Ron,sp of the device can reach 253 V and 15.5 mΩ ⋅ cm2, respectively, and the Baliga's figure of merit (FOM = BV2/Ron,sp) of 4.1 MW/cm2 is achieved, breaking through the silicon limit. To improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the short-term stability of cesium atomic fountain clocks, the work of two-laser optical pumping is presented theoretically and experimentally. The short-term stability of the NIM6 fountain clock has been improved by preparing more cold atoms in the | F = 4, mF = 0〉 clock state with a shortened cycle time. Two π-polarized laser beams overlapped in the horizontal plane have been applied after launching, one is resonant with | F = 4〉 → | F′ = 4〉 transition and the other is resonant with | F = 3〉 → | F′ = 4〉 transition. With optical pumping, the population accumulated in the | mF = 0〉 clock state is improved from 11% to 63%, and the detection signal is increased by a factor of 4.2, the SNR of the clock transition probability and the short-term stability are also improved accordingly. Ring artifacts will happen mostly when the detector has inconsistent response among the detector channels, and the characteristic produced rings centered in the iso-center in the reconstructed slices inevitably affect the recognition and analysis of the corresponding sample structures in neutron computed tomography (CT). In this work, a ring correction method based on the projection-field (RCP) is proposed, it is a pre-processing method and provides the corrected projection data directly, which is also conducive to efficient data storage and other algorithmic researches. Simulation and physical experiments are performed for verifying the effect of the method, and one of the correction methods based on the image-field is used for comparison. The influences of reducing the supply voltage on single event upset (SEU) and multiple-cell upset (MCU) in two kinds of 65-nm static random access memories (SRAMs) are characterized across a wide linear energy transfer (LET) range. The results show that the influence of the voltage variation on SEU cross section clearly depends on the LET value which is above heavy ion LET threshold no matter whether the SRAM is non-hardened 6T SRAM or radiation-hardened double dual interlocked cells (DICE) SRAM. When the LET value is lower than the LET threshold of MCU, the SEU only manifests single cell upset, the SEU cross section increases with the decrease of voltage. The lower the LET value, the higher the SEU sensitivity to the voltage variation is. Lowering the voltage has no evident influence on SEU cross section while the LET value is above the LET threshold of MCU. Moreover, the reduction of the voltage can result in a decrease in the highest-order MCU event cross section due to the decrease of charge collection efficiency of the outer sub-sensitive volume within a certain voltage range. With further scaling the feature size of devices down, it is suggested that the dependence of SEU on voltage variation should be paid special attention to for heavy ions with very low LET or the other particles with very low energy for nanometer commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) SRAM. A novel shorted anode lateral-insulated gate bipolar transistor (SA LIGBT) with snapback-free characteristic is proposed and investigated. The device features a controlled barrier Vbarrier and resistance RSA in anode, named CBR LIGBT. The electron barrier is formed by the P-float/N-buffer junction, while the anode resistance includes the polysilicon layer and N-float. At forward conduction stage, the Vbarrier and RSA can be increased by adjusting the doping of the P-float and polysilicon layer, respectively, which can suppress the unipolar mode to eliminate the snapback. At turn-off stage, the low-resistance extraction path (N-buffer/P-float/polysilicon layer/N-float) can quickly extract the electrons in the N-drift, which can effectively accelerate the turn-off speed of the device. The simulation results show that at the same Von of 1.3 V, the Eoff of the CBR LIGBT is reduced by 85%, 73%, and 59.6% compared with the SSA LIGBT, conventional LIGBT, and TSA LIGBT, respectively. Additionally, at the same Eoff of 1.5 mJ/cm2, the CBR LIGBT achieves the lowest Von of 1.1 V compared with the other LIGBTs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cold atom clocks have made remarkable progresses in the last two decades and played critical roles in precision measurements. Primary Cs fountain frequency standards have achieved a total uncertainty of a few parts in 1016, and the best optical clock has reached a type B uncertainty below 10−18. Besides applications in the metrology, navigation, etc., ultra-stable and ultra-accurate atomic clocks have also become powerful tools in the basic scientific investigations. In this paper, we focus on the recent developments in the high-performance cold atomic clocks which can be used as frequency standards to calibrate atomic time scales. The basic principles, performances, and limitations of fountain clocks and optical clocks based on signal trapped ion or neutral atoms are summarized. The model dependence in the study of the magic-angle twisted bilayer-graphene (MA-TBG) is an important issue in the research area. It has been argued previously that the two-band tight-binding (TB) model (per spin and valley) cannot serve as a start point for succeeding studies as it cannot correctly describe the topological aspect of the continuum-theory model near the Dirac nodes in the mini Brillouin zone (MBZ). For this purpose, we adopt the faithful TB model [Phys. Rev. B 99 195455 (2019)] with five bands (per spin and valley) as our start point, which is further equipped with extended Hubbard interactions. Then after systematic random-phase-approximation (RPA) based calculations, we study the electron instabilities of this model, including the density wave (DW) and superconductivity (SC), near the van Hove singularity (VHS). Our results are as follows. In the case neglecting the tiny inter-valley exchange interaction, the exact SU(2)K × SU(2)K′ symmetry leads to the degeneracy between the inter-valley charge DW (CDW) and the spin DW (SDW) (which would be mixed then), and that between the singlet d + id-wave and triplet p + ip-wave topological SCs. When a realistic tiny inter-valley exchange interaction is turned on with nonzero coefficient (JH ≠ 0), the SDW or CDW is favored respectively at the critical point, determined by JH → 0− or JH → 0+. In the mean time, the degeneracy between the singlet d + id-wave and triplet p + ip-wave topological SCs is also lifted up by the tiny JH. These results are highly similar to the results of our previous study [arXiv:2003.09513] adopting the two-band TB model, with the reason lying in that both models share the same symmetry and Fermi-surface (FS) nesting character near the VHS. Such a similarity suggests that the low-energy physics of the doped MA-TBG is mainly determined by the symmetry and the shape of the FS of the doped system, and is insensitive to other details of the band structure, including the topological aspects near the Dirac nodes in the MBZ. We perform a computational simulation of light emissions from two sonoluminescent bubbles in water. Our simulation includes the radii of two bubbles, radiation acoustic pressures, and light emission spectra by numerically solving the pulsing equations of a two-bubble system and the equations of gas dynamics. The simulation results demonstrate that the motion of each bubble in the two-bubble system is restrained because of the radiation acoustic pressures from the other pulsing bubble. The restrained oscillation of a bubble with a small ambient radius is stronger than that of a bubble with a large ambient radius under the same driving acoustic pressure. This effect increases when the distance between the two bubbles decreases. When compared to single-bubble sonoluminescence, the interaction between two bubbles leads to generation of different spectral characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Majorana fermions have been predicted to exist at the edge states of a two-dimensional topological superconductor. We fabricated single quintuple layer (QL) Bi2Te3/FeTe heterostructure with the step-flow epitaxy method and studied the topological properties of this system by using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy. We observed the coexistence of robust superconductivity and edge states on the single QL Bi2Te3 islands which can be potential evidence for topological superconductor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electro–optic modulator is a key component for on-chip optical signal processing. An electro–optic phase modulator based on multilayer graphene embedded in silicon nitride waveguide is demonstrated to fulfill low-power operation. Finite element method is adopted to investigate the interaction enhancement between the graphene flake and the optical mode. The impact of multilayer graphene on the performance of phase modulator is studied comprehensively. Simulation results show that the modulation efficiency improves with the increment of graphene layer number, as well as the modulation length. The 3-dB bandwidth of around 48 GHz is independent of graphene layer number and length. Compared to modulator with two- or four-layer graphene, the six-layer graphene/silicon nitride waveguide modulator can realize π phase shift at a low-power consumption of 14 fJ/bit when the modulation length is 240 μm. Traditional compressed sensing algorithm is used to reconstruct images by iteratively optimizing a small number of measured values. The computation is complex and the reconstruction time is long. The deep learning-based compressed sensing algorithm can greatly shorten the reconstruction time, but the algorithm emphasis is placed on reconstructing the network part mostly. The random measurement matrix cannot measure the image features well, which leads the reconstructed image quality to be improved limitedly. Two kinds of networks are proposed for solving this problem. The first one is ReconNet's improved network IReconNet, which replaces the traditional linear random measurement matrix with an adaptive nonlinear measurement network. The reconstruction quality and anti-noise performance are greatly improved. Because the measured values extracted by the measurement network also retain the characteristics of image spatial information, the image is reconstructed by bilinear interpolation algorithm (Bilinear) and dilate convolution. Therefore a second network USDCNN is proposed. On the BSD500 dataset, the sampling rates are 0.25, 0.10, 0.04, and 0.01, the average peak signal-noise ratio (PSNR) of USDCNN is 1.62 dB, 1.31 dB, 1.47 dB, and 1.95 dB higher than that of MSRNet. Experiments show the average reconstruction time of USDCNN is 0.2705 s, 0.3671 s, 0.3602 s, and 0.3929 s faster than that of ReconNet. This paper presents new neutron-induced single event upset (SEU) data on the SRAM devices with the technology nodes from 40 nm to 500 nm due to spallation, reactor, and monoenergetic neutrons. The SEU effect is investigated as a function of incident neutron energy spectrum, technology node, byte pattern and neutron fluence rate. The experimental data show that the SEU effect mainly depends on the incident neutron spectrum and the technology node, and the SEU sensitivity induced by low-energy neutrons significantly increases with the technology downscaling. Monte–Carlo simulations of nuclear interactions with device architecture are utilized for comparing with the experimental results. This simulation approach allows us to investigate the key parameters of the SEU sensitivity, which are determined by the technology node and supply voltage. The simulation shows that the high-energy neutrons have more nuclear reaction channels to generate more secondary particles which lead to the significant enhancement of the SEU cross-sections, and thus revealing the physical mechanism for SEU sensitivity to the incident neutron spectrum. Exploring the emergence and maintenance of cooperation in social dilemma is valuable and it arises considerable concerns of many researchers. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to promote cooperation, called benefit community, in which cooperators linking together form a common benefit community and all their payoffs obtained from game are divided coequally. The robustness of conclusions is tested for the PDG (prisoners' dilemma game) on square lattice and WS small world network. We find that cooperation can be promoted by this typical mechanism, especially, it can diffuse and prevail more easily and rapidly on the WS small world network than it on the square lattice, even if a big temptation to defect b. In this paper, the complex dynamical behavior of a fractional-order Lorenz-like system with two quadratic terms is investigated. The existence and uniqueness of solutions for this system are proved, and the stabilities of the equilibrium points are analyzed as one of the system parameters changes. The pitchfork bifurcation is discussed for the first time, and the necessary conditions for the commensurate and incommensurate fractional-order systems to remain in chaos are derived. The largest Lyapunov exponents and phase portraits are given to check the existence of chaos. Finally, the sliding mode control law is provided to make the states of the Lorenz-like system asymptotically stable. With the help of a modified mapping method and a new mapping method, we re-study the (3+1)-dimensional Burgers equation, and derive two families of variable separation solutions. By selecting appropriate functions in the variable separation solution, we discuss the interaction behaviors among taper-like, plateau-type rings, and rectangle-type embed-solitons in the periodic wave background. ZrN/TiZrN multilayers are deposited by using the cathodic vacuum arc method with different substrate bias (from 0 to -800 V), using Ti and Zr plasma flows in residual N2 atmosphere, combined with ion bombardment of sample surfaces. The effect of pulsed bias on the structure and properties of films is investigated. Microstructure of the coating is analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, nanohardness, Young's modulus, and scratch tests are performed. The experimental results show that the films exhibit a nanoscale multilayer structure consisting of TiZrN and ZrN phases. Solid solutions are formed for component TiZrN films. The dominant preferred orientation of TiZrN films is (111) and (220). At a pulsed bias of -200 V, the nanohardness and the adhesion strength of the ZrN/TiZrN multilayer reach a maximum of 38 GPa, and 78 N, respectively. The ZrN/TiZrN multilayer demonstrates an enhanced nanohardness compared with binary TiN and ZrN films deposited under equivalent conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We reduce the variable-coefficient higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation (VCHNLSE) into the constantcoefficient (CC) one. Based on the reduction transformation and solutions of CCHNLSE, we obtain analytical soliton solutions embedded in the continuous wave background for the VCHNLSE. Then the excitation in advancement and sustainment of soliton arrays, and postponed disappearance and sustainment of the bright soliton embedded in the background are discussed in an exponential system. Temperature dependencies (81 ?C-18 ?C) of visible absorption and Raman spectra of all-trans-β-carotene and all-trans-retinol extremely diluted in dimethyl sulfoxide are investigated in order to clarify temperature effects on different polyenes. Their absorption spectra are identified to be redshifted with temperature decreasing. Moreover, all-trans-β-carotene is more sensitive to temperature due to the presence of a longer length of conjugated system. The characteristic energy responsible for the conformational changes in all-trans-β-carotene is smaller than that in all-trans- retinol. Both of the Raman scattering cross sections increase with temperature decreasing. With the help of a modified mapping method, we obtain two kinds of variable separation solutions with two arbitrary functions for the (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long wave equation. When selecting appropriate multi-valued functions in the variable separation solution, we investigate the interactions among special multi-dromions, dromion-like multi-peakons, and dromion-like multi-semifoldons, which all demonstrate non-completely elastic properties. We investigate the mechanism for the improvement of p-type doping efficiency in Mg-Al0.14Ga0.86N/GaN superlattices (SLs). It is shown that the hole concentration of SLs increases by nearly an order of magnitude, from 1.1✕1017 to 9.3✕1017 cm-3, when an AlN interlayer is inserted to modulate the strains. Schrodinger-Poisson self-consistent calculations suggest that such an increase could be attributed to the reduction of donor-like defects caused by the strain modulation induced by the AlN interlayer. Additionally, the donor-acceptor pair emission exhibits a remarkable decrease in intensity of the cathodoluminescence spectrum for SLs with an AlN interlayer. This supports the theoretical calculations and indicates that the strain modulation of SLs could be beneficial to the donor-like defect suppression as well as the p-type doping efficiency improvement. The InGaN/GaN blue light emitting diode (LED) is numerically investigated using a triangular-shaped quantum well model, which involves analysis on its energy band, carrier concentration, overlap of electron and hole wave functions, radiative recombination rate, and internal quantum efficiency. The simulation results reveal that the InGaN/GaN blue light emitting diode with triangular quantum wells exhibits a higher radiative recombination rate than the conventional light emitting diode with rectangular quantum wells due to the enhanced overlap of electron and hole wave functions (above 90%) under the polarization field. Consequently, the efficiency droop is only 18% in the light emitting diode with triangular-shaped quantum wells, which is three times lower than that in a conventional LED. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Passive decoy state quantum key distribution (PDS-QKD) has advantages in high-speed scenarios. We propose a modified model to simulate the PDS-QKD with a weak coherent light source based on Curty's theory [Opt. Lett. 34 3238 (2009)]. In this paper, we report a high-performance P3HT/PCBM bulk-heterojunction solar cell with a power conversion efficiency of 4.85% fabricated by adjusting the polymer crystallinity and nanoscale phase separation using an ultrasonic irradiation mixing approach for the polymer. The grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, UV/Vis spectroscopic, and atomic force microscopic measurement results for the P3HT/PCBM blend films reveal that the P3HT/PCBM film fabricated by ultrasonic irradiation mixing of the P3HT and PCBM solutions for 10 min has a higher degree of crystallinity, a higher absorption efficiency, and better phase separation, which together account for the higher charge transport properties and photovoltaic cell performance. Hyperthermia effects (39-44 °C) induced by pulsed high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) have been regarded as a promising therapeutic tool for boosting immune responses or enhancing drug delivery into a solid tumor. However, previous studies also reported that the cell death occurs when cells are maintained at 43 °C for more than 20 minutes. The aim of this study is to investigate thermal responses inside in vivo rabbit auricular veins exposed to pulsed HIFU (1.17 MHz, 5300 W/cm2, with relatively low-duty ratios (0.2%-4.3%). The results show that: (1) with constant pulse repetition frequency (PRF) (e.g., 1 Hz), the thermal responses inside the vessel will increase with the increasing duty ratio; (2) a temperature elevation to 43 °C can be identified at the duty ratio of 4.3%; (3) with constant duty ratios, the change of PRF will not significantly affect the temperature measurement in the vessel; (4) as the duty ratios lower than 4.3%, the presence of microbubbles will not significantly enhance the thermal responses in the vessel, but will facilitate HIFU-induced inertial cavitation events. Four-wave mixing, as well as its induced intensity noise, is harmful to wavelength division multiplexing systems. The efficiency and the relative intensity noise of four-wave mixing are numerically simulated for the two-wave and the three-wave fiber transmissions. It is found that the efficiency decreases with the increase of both the frequency spacing and the fiber length, which can be explained using the quasi-phase-matching condition. Furthermore, the relative intensity noise decreases with the increase of frequency spacing, while it increases with the increase of fiber length, which is due to the considerable power loss of the pump light. The estimation of key rate is an important aspect of the quantum key distribution process, especially in the use of dead time. In this paper, we demonstrate a numerical simulation to estimate the average detection probability and the key rate. Using our method, the estimated average detection probability is better than the previous result. Stimulated Brillouin scattering-induced phase noise is harmful to interferometric fiber sensing systems. The localized fluctuating model is used to study the intensity noise caused by the stimulated Brillouin scattering in a single-mode fiber. The phase noise structure is analyzed for an interferometric fiber sensing system, and an unbalanced Michelson interferometer with an optical path difference of 1 m, as well as the phase-generated carrier technique, is used to measure the phase noise. It is found that the phase noise is small when the input power is below the stimulated Brillouin scattering threshold, increases dramatically at first and then gradually becomes flat when the input power is above the threshold, which is similar to the variation in relative intensity noise. It can be inferred that the increase in phase noise is mainly due to the broadening of the laser linewidth caused by stimulated Brillouin scattering, which is verified through linewidth measurements in the absence and presence of the stimulated Brillouin scattering. Direct absorption spectra of the 2ν3 band of methane (CH4) from 6038 to 6050 cm-1 were studied at different low temperatures using a newly developed cryogenic cell in combination with a distributed feedback (DFB) diode laser. The cryogenic cell can operate at any stabilized temperature ranging from room temperature down to 100 K with temperature fluctuation less than ±1 K within 1 hour. In the present work, the CH4 spectra in the range of 6038-6050 cm-1 were recorded at 296, 266, 248, 223, 198, and 176 K. The lower state energy E00 and the rotational assignment of the angular momentum J were determined by a "2-low-temperature spectra method" using the spectra recorded at 198 and 176 K. The results were compared with the data from the GOSAT and the recently reported results from Campargue and co-workers using two spectra measured at room temperature and 81 K. This paper presents the experimental results of a combined irradiation environment of neutron and gamma rays on 80C196KC20, which is a 16-bit high performance member of the MCS96 microcontroller family. The electrical and functional tests were made in three irradiation environments: neutron, gamma rays, combined irradiation of neutron and gamma rays. The experimental results show that the neutron irradiation can affect the total ionizing dose behaviour. Compared with the single radiation environment, the microcontroller exhibits considerably more severe degradation in neutron and gamma ray synergistic irradiation. Highly uniformed barium-strontium titanate nanotube arrays were fabricated using a porous anodic aluminum oxide template from a barium-strontium titanate sol-gel solution. Electron microscope results showed that nanotubes with uniform length and diameter were obtained. The diameters and lengths of these nanotubes were dependent on the pore diameter and the thickness of the applied anodic aluminum oxide template. High resolution transmission electron microscopy and the selected-area electron diffraction pattern investigations demonstrated the perovskite structure and the polycrystalline of the fabricated barium-strontium titanate nanotubes. The characterization of the electrical and dielectric properties had also been made. Compared to thin film material, the intrinsic leakage current density is almost the same. Besides, at 30 °C, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the fabricated nanotube is 80 and 0.027 at 1 MHz respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The principle of surface wave plasma discharge in a rectangular cavity is introduced simply based on surface plasmon polariton theory. The distribution of surface-wave electric field at the interface of the plasma-dielectric slab is investigated by using the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method (3D-FDTD) with different slot-antenna structures. And the experimental image of discharge with a novel slot antenna array and the simulation of the electric field with this slot antenna array are both displayed. Combined with the distribution of surface wave excitation and experimental results, the numerical simulation performed by using 3D-FDTD is shown to be a useful tool in the computer-aided antenna design for large area planar-type surface-wave plasma sources. Although the nonlinear interactions between a single short gravity wave and a long wave can be solved analytically, the solution is less tractable in more general cases involving multiple short waves. In this work we present a numerical method of studying nonlinear interactions between a long wave and multiple short harmonic waves in infinitely deep water. Specifically, this method is applied to the calculation of the temporal and spatial evolutions of the surface elevations in which a given long wave interacts with several short harmonic waves. Another important application of our method is to quantitatively analyse the nonlinear interactions between an arbitrary short wave train and another short wave train. From simulation results, we obtain that the mechanism for the nonlinear interactions between one short wave train and another short wave train (expressed as wave train 2) leads to the energy focusing of the other short wave train (expressed as wave train 3). This paper implements the study on the Dose Rate Upset effect of PDSOI SRAM (Partially Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator Static Random Access Memory) with the Qiangguang-I accelerator in Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology. The SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) chips are developed by the Institute of Microelectronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences. It uses the full address test mode to determine the upset mechanisms. A specified address test is taken in the same time. The test results indicate that the upset threshold of the PDSOI SRAM is about 1×108 Gy(Si)/s. However, there are a few bits upset when the dose rate reaches up to 1.58 × 109 Gy(Si)/s. The SRAM circuit can still work after the high level g ray pulse. Finally, the upset mechanism is determined to be the rail span collapse by comparing the critical charge with the collected charge after g ray pulse. The physical locations of upset cells are plotted in the layout of the SRAM to investigate the layout defect. Ridge InGaN multi-quantum-well-structure (MQW) edge-emitting laser diodes (LDs) were grown on (0001) sapphire substrates by low-pressure metal-organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD). The dielectric TiO2/SiO2 front and back facet coatings as cavity mirror facets of the LDs have been deposited with electron-beam evaporation method. The reflectivity of the designed front coating is about 50% and that of the back high reflective coating is as high as 99.9%. Under pulsed current injection at room temperature, the influences of the dielectric facets were discussed. The threshold current of the ridge GaN-based LDs was decreased after the deposition of the back high reflective dielectric mirrors and decreased again after the front facets were deposited. Above the threshold, the slope efficiency of the LDs with both reflective facets was larger than those with only back facets and without any reflective facets. The frequency-comb structure in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regions can be realized by the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) process driven by frequency-comb fields, providing an alternative approach for the measurement of an unknown frequency in XUV or VUV. We consider the case of two driving frequency-comb fields with the same repetition frequency and the carrier frequencies of fundamental- and third-harmonics, respectively. The many-mode Floquet theorem (MMFT) is employed to provide a nonperturbative and exact treatment of the interaction between a quantum system and the frequency-comb laser fields. Multiphoton transition paths involving both fundamental- and third-harmonic photons are opened due to the coupling of the third-harmonic frequency-comb field. The multiphoton transition paths are superpositioned when the carrier-envelope-phase shifts (CEPs) fulfill the matching condition. And the interference of the multiphoton transition paths can be controlled by tuning the relative envelope delay between the fields. We find that the quasienergy structure, as well as the multiphoton resonant high-order harmonic generation (HHG) spectra, driven by the two frequency-comb fields can be coherently controlled via the interference of multiphoton transition paths. As2S3 and As2Se3 chalcogenide 3-bridges suspended-core fibers (SCFs) are designed with shifted zero-dispersion wavelengths (ZDWs) at around 1.5 μm, 2 μm, and 2.8 μm, respectively. A generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation is used to numerically compare supercontinuum (SC) generation in these SCFs pumped at an anomalous dispersion region nearby their ZDWs. Evolutions of the long-wavelength edge (LWE), the power proportion in the long-wavelength region (PPL), and spectral flatness (SF) are calculated and analyzed. Meanwhile, the optimal pump parameters and fiber length are given with LWE, PPL, and SF taken into account. For As2S3 SCFs, SC from a 14 mm-long fiber with a ZDW of 2825 nm pumped at 2870 nm can achieve the longest LWE of and PPL up to ∼72%. For As2Se3 SCFs, the LWE of 15.5 μm and the highest PPL of % can be achieved in a 10 mm-long fiber with ZDW of 1982 nm pumped at 2000 nm. Although the As2Se3 SCFs can achieve much longer LWE than the As2S3 SCFs, the core diameter of As2Se3 SCFs will be much smaller to obtain a similar ZDW, leading to lower damage threshold and output power. Migration characterizations of Ga and In adatoms on the dielectric surface in selective metal organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) were investigated. In the typical MOVPE environment, the selectivity of growth is preserved for GaN, and the growth rate of GaN micro-pyramids is sensitive to the period of the patterned SiO2 mask. A surface migration induced model was adopted to figure out the effective migration length of Ga adatoms on the dielectric surface. Different from the growth of GaN, the selective area growth of InGaN on the patterned template would induce the deposition of InGaN polycrystalline particles on the patterned SiO2 mask with a long period. It was demonstrated with a scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectroscopy that the In adatoms exhibit a shorter migration length on the dielectric surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Porous graphene has a high mechanical strength and an atomic-layer thickness that makes it a promising material for material separation and biomolecule sensing. Electrostatic interactions between charges in aqueous solutions are a type of strong long-range interaction that may greatly influence fluid transport through nanopores. In this study, molecular dynamic simulations were conducted to investigate ion and water transport through 1.05-nm diameter monolayer graphene nanopores, with their edges charge-modified. Our results indicated that these nanopores are selective to counterions when they are charged. As the charge amount increases, the total ionic currents show an increase–decrease profile while the co-ion currents monotonically decrease. The co-ion rejection can reach 76.5% and 90.2% when the nanopores are negatively and positively charged, respectively. The Cl– ion current increases and reaches a plateau, and the Na+ current decreases as the charge amount increases in systems in which Na+ ions act as counterions. In addition, charge modification can enhance water transport through nanopores. This is mainly due to the ion selectivity of the nanopores. Notably, positive charges on the pore edges facilitate water transport much more strongly than negative charges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For distributed fiber Raman amplifiers (DFRAs), stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) can deplete the pump once occurring and consequently generate gain saturation. On the basis of such a theory, theoretical gain saturation powers in DFRAs with various pump schemes are obtained by calculating SBS thresholds in them, and the experimental results show that they are in excellent agreement with the calculation results. The saturation power of the DFRA with a 300 mW forward pump is as low as 0 dBm, which needs to be enhanced by phase modulation, and the effect is quantitatively studied. A simple model taking both modulation frequency and index into consideration is presented by introducing a correction factor to evaluate the effect of phase modulation on the enhancement of saturation power. Experimentally, it is shown that such a correction factor decreases as the modulation frequency increases and approaches zero when the modulation frequency becomes high enough. In particular, a phase modulation with a modulation frequency of 100 MHz and a modulation index of 1.380 can enhance the saturation power by 4.44 dB, and the correction factor is 0.25 dB, in which the modulation frequency is high enough. Additionally, the factor is 1.767 dB for the modulation frequency of 25 MHz. On this basis, phase modulations with various indexes and a fixed frequency of 25 MHz are adopted to verify the modified model, and the results are positive. In a practical quantum key distribution (QKD) system, imperfect equipment, especially the single-photon detector, can be eavesdropped on by a blinding attack. However, the original blinding attack may be discovered by directly detecting the current. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic blinding attack model, where Eve probabilistically applies a blinding attack without being caught by using only an existing intuitive countermeasure. More precisely, our countermeasure solves the problem of how to define the bound in the limitation of precision of current detection, and then we prove security of the practical system by considering the current parameter. In this work, the wafer bowing during growth can be in-situ measured by a reflectivity mapping method in the 3×2″ Thomas Swan close coupled showerhead metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) system. The reflectivity mapping method is usually used to measure the film thickness and growth rate. The wafer bowing caused by stresses (tensile and compressive) during the epitaxial growth leads to a temperature variation at different positions on the wafer, and the lower growth temperature leads to a faster growth rate and vice versa. Therefore, the wafer bowing can be measured by analyzing the discrepancy of growth rates at different positions on the wafer. Furthermore, the wafer bowings were confirmed by the ex-situ wafer bowing measurement. High-resistivity and low-resistivity Si substrates were used for epitaxial growth. In comparison with low-resistivity Si substrate, GaN grown on high-resistivity substrate shows a larger wafer bowing caused by the highly compressive stress introduced by compositionally graded AlGaN buffer layer. High harmonic generation (HHG) driven by intense frequency-comb laser fields can be dramatically enhanced via multiphoton resonance by tuning the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) shift, without increasing the driving intensity. However, the multiphoton-resonant enhancement (MRE) factor in the realistic atomic hydrogen is much smaller than that in a two-level system. To study the deviation, we present a theoretical investigation of the multiphoton resonance dynamics of three-level systems driven by intense frequency-comb laser fields. The many-mode Floquet theorem (MMFT) is employed to provide a nonperturbative and exact treatment of the interaction between the quantum system and the laser fields. The investigations show that the dipole interaction of a two-level system with the third level affects the multiphoton resonance dynamics and enhances the HHG spectra. It is the dipole interaction of the excited level of the two-level system with other levels that results in the smaller MRE factor in the realistic atomic system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
