InFeP layers are prepared by ion implantation of InP with 100-keV Fe+ ions to a dose of 5 × 1016 cm−2 and investigated by optical, magnetic, and ion beam analysis measurements. Photoluminescence measurements show a deep-level peak at 1.035 eV due to Fe in InP and two exciton-related luminescences at 1.426 eV and 1.376 eV in the implanted samples annealed at 400 °C. Conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy reveals a doublet corresponding to Fe3+ ions in the indium sites. Atomic force microscopy and magnetic force microscopy show that magnetic clusters are formed in the annealing process. The magnetization-field hysteresis loops show ferromagnetic properties persisting up to room temperature with a coercive field of 100 Oe (1 Oe = 79.5775 A·m−1), saturation magnetization of 4.35 × 10−5 emu, and remnant magnetization of 4.4 × 10−6 emu. Using the first-principles method, we predict an orthorhombic boron–carbon binary structure with space group Imm2. This structure is verified to be dynamically and mechanically stable, and possesses a cavity of 27.5 Å2 that makes it a potential molecular sieve material. The C sp2 and sp3 hybridized bonding in Imm2 BC is an important factor for its structural stability. The energy band calculations reveal that Imm2 BC is a semiconductor with a band gap of 1.3 eV and has a promising application in the electro-optic field. The lattice thermal conductivity along the crystal [100] direction at room temperature is 186 W·m−1·K−1, that is about 5 times higher than those along the [010] and [001] directions, which stems from the different group velocity along the crystal direction. Moreover, the acoustic-optical coupling is important for heat transport in Imm2 BC, and the contribution of optical phonons to lattice thermal conductivity in the [100], [010], and [001] directions is 49%, 59%, and 61%, respectively. This study gives a fundamental understanding of the structural, electronic, elastic, and heat transport properties in Imm2 BC, further enriching the family of boron–carbon binary compounds. In practical situations, large machinery is usually placed in an underwater vessel and changes the acoustic enclosure shape into an irregular one. The existence of machinery causes the difficulties in expressing sound transmission and radiation analytically. In this study, the sound radiation of a cylindrical shell excited by an internal acoustic source is modeled and analyzed. The cylindrical shell contains a machine modeled as a rectangular object, which is attached to a shell with a spring-mass system. The acoustic field of the cavity is computed by the integro-modal approach. The effect of object size on the coupling between acoustic mode and structural mode is investigated. The relationship between object volume and sound radiation is also studied. Numerical results show that the existence of objects inside vessels leads to a more effective coupling between the structure and acoustic enclosure than the existence of no objects in a regular-shaped cavity (i.e. empty vessel). Temperature dependence on rectifying and photoelectronic properties of La0.67Sr0.33MnO3/Nb:SrTiO3 (LSMO/STON) junctions with the thickness values of LSMO film varying from 1 nm to 54 nm are systematically studied. As shown experimentally, the junctions exhibit good rectifying properties. The significant differences in photoemission property among the LSMO/STON junctions are observed. For the junction in a thicker LSMO film, the photocurrent shows a monotonic growth when temperature decreases from 300 K to 13 K. While for the junction in an ultrathin LSMO film, the behaviors of photocurrent are more complicated. The photocurrent increases rapidly to a maximum and then smoothly decreases with the decrease of temperature. A typical magnetic-resonance scheme employs a static bias magnetic field and an orthogonal driving magnetic field oscillating at the Larmor frequency, at which the atomic polarization precesses around the static magnetic field. Here we demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally the variations of the resonance condition and the spin precession dynamics resulting from the parametric modulation of the bias field. We show that the driving magnetic field with the frequency detuned by different harmonics of the parametric modulation frequency can lead to resonance as well. Also, a series of frequency sidebands centered at the driving frequency and spaced by the parametric modulation frequency can be observed in the precession of the atomic polarization. We further show that the resonant amplitudes of the sidebands can be controlled by varying the ratio between the amplitude and the frequency of the parametric modulation. The anisotropic transport property was investigated in a phase separation La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 (LCMO) film grown on (001)-oriented NdGaO3 (NGO) substrate. It was found that the resistivity along the b-axis is much higher than that along the a-axis. Two resistivity peaks were observed in the temperature dependent measurement along the b-axis, one located at 91 K and the other centered at 165 K. Moreover, we also studied the response of the resistivities along the two axes to various electric currents, magnetic fields, and light illuminations. The resistivities along the two axes are sensitive to the magnetic field. However, the electric current and light illumination can influence the resistivity along the b-axis obviously, but have little effect on the resistivity along the a-axis. Based on these results, we believe that an anisotropic-strain-controlled MnO6 octahedra shear-mode deformation may provide a mechanism of conduction filaments paths along the a-axis, which leads to the anisotropic transport property. We present magnetotransport studies on a series of BaFe2−xNixAs2 (0.03 ≤ x ≤ 0.10) single crystals. In the underdoped (x = 0.03) non-superconducting sample, the temperature-dependent resistivity exhibits a peak at 22 K, which is associated with the onset of filamentary superconductivity (FLSC). FLSC is suppressed by an external magnetic field in a manner similar to the suppression of bulk superconductivity in an optimally-doped (x = 0.10) compound, suggesting the same possible origin as the bulk superconductivity. Our magnetoresistivity measurements reveal that FLSC persists up to the optimal doping and disappears in the overdoped regime where the long-range antiferromagnetic order is completely suppressed, pointing to a close relation between FLSC and the magnetic order. The piezoelectric properties of K1−xNaxNbO3 are studied by using first-principles calculations within virtual crystal approximation. To understand the critical factors for the high piezoelectric response in K1−xNaxNbO3, the total energy, piezoelectric coefficient, elastic property, density of state, Born effective charge, and energy barrier on polarization rotation paths are systematically investigated. The morphotropic phase boundary in K1−xNaxNbO3 is predicted to occur at x = 0.521, which is in good agreement with the available experimental data. At the morphotropic phase boundary, the longitudinal piezoelectric coefficient d33 of orthorhombic K0.5Na0.5NbO3 reaches a maximum value. The rotated maximum of is found to be along the 50° direction away from the spontaneous polarization (close to the [001] direction). The moderate bulk and shear modulus are conducive to improving the piezoelectric response. By analyzing the energy barrier on polarization rotation paths, it is found that the polarization rotation of orthorhombic K0.5Na0.5NbO3 becomes easier compared with orthorhombic KNbO3, which proves that the high piezoelectric response is attributed to the flattening of the free energy at compositions close to the morphotropic phase boundary. Crystalline BiFeO3 (BFO) films each with a crystal structure of a distorted rhombohedral perovskite are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM). The diffusion of silicon atoms from the substrate into the BiFeO3 film is detected by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS). The element analysis is performed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Simulation results of RBS spectrum show a visualized distribution of silicon. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicates that a portion of silica is formed in the diffusion process of silicon atoms. Ferroelectric and weak ferromagnetic properties of the BFO films are degraded due to the diffusion of silicon atoms. The saturation magnetization decreases from 6.11 down to 0.75 emu/g, and the leakage current density increases from 3.8 × 10−4 up to 7.1 × 10−4 A/cm−2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The full-potential linear augmented plane wave method based on density functional theory is employed to investigate the electronic structure of BaSi2. With the constant relaxation time and rigid band approximation, the electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and figure of merit are calculated by using Boltzmann transport theory, further evaluated as a function of carrier concentration. We find that the Seebeck coefficient is more anisotropic than electrical conductivity. The figure of merit of BaSi2 is predicted to be quite high at room temperature, implying that optimal doping may be an effective way to improve thermoelectric properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
