Abstract

We report a continuous-wave end-pumped Nd:YVO4 zigzag slab laser with multilayer amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) absorbing coatings. The coatings are deposited on the slab faces. A five-layer structure consists of SiO2-Ti-SiO2-Ti-Au, and the thicknesses are 2520 nm, 10 nm, 160 nm, 24 nm and 200 nm, respectively. The designed coatings show good performance for the ASE control in the experimental tests. A stable-unstable hybrid laser oscillator along orthogonal directions in the slab aperture is further configured, achieving the 117W output at a pump of 328 W. The beam quality factors M2 in the unstable direction and stable direction are 1.57 and 1.66, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A yellow continuous wave with beam quality M2 = 4.6 and output power of 4.8 W at 589 nm is generated by intracavity sum-frequency mixing of 1064 nm and 1319 nm radiations of a Nd:YAG laser. To achieve high beam quality at high power, thermally near-unstable flat–flat resonators with two-rod birefringence compensation are designed to obtain the large fundamental mode size inside the Nd:YAG rods and the same beam width inside the KTP crystal. The optimal intracavity power ratio of both 1064 nm and 1319 nm beams is also considered. The output power fluctuation of the yellow laser remains less than 5% in four hours.

Abstract

We report a compact high average power optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by an all-solid-state nanosecond 532-nm laser. Based on the merit of non-critically phase-matched crystals without walk-off effect, a 60-mm-long LiB3O5 (LBO) crystal is used as the OPO nonlinear crystal to enhance the conversion efficiency and to increase the output power. The maximum average power of signal output is up to 18 W at 860 nm for pump power of 65 W. This is the highest signal average power generated by a nanosecond OPO in single bulk LBO, to the best of our knowledge. The dynamic characteristics of beam quality are investigated. Our experimental results demonstrate that good OPO conversion efficiency and high output power can be obtained even with relatively poor pump beam quality.

Abstract

A compact diode-side-pumped Tm:YAG laser is presented, which can output 51 W of cw power at 2.02μm. The Tm:YAG rod is side pumped by nine diode arrays with the central wavelength of 783nm and the with bandwidth of about 2.5 nm at 25° C. To decrease the thermal effect on the both ends and dissipate the heat effectively, one composite Tm:YAG rod with the undoped YAG end caps and the screw threads on the side surface of the rod is used as the laser crystal. The maximum optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of the 2.02-μm laser output is 14.2%, with a slope efficiency of 26.8%.

Abstract

We report that a deep ultraviolet (DUV) laser from the sixth harmonic of a 1064 nm laser has been firstly used as light source in an ultrahigh energy-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The wavelength is 177.3nm obtained by using the second harmonic KBe2BO3F2 crystal with a frequency tripled 1064nm Nd:YVO4 laser. The large flux (1014 – 1015 photons/s) and narrow line width (0.26meV) are suitable for the ultrahigh-energy resolution ARPES. The laser-ARPES can be a powerful tool to study the electronic structure at and near the Fermi level of the superconductor and correlated materials. The laser-ARPES has worked more than 500 h already.

Abstract

The multiwavelength characteristics of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in YVO4crystal excited by a picosecond laser at 1064nm are investigated theoretically and experimentally. Laser output with seven wavelengths is achieved coaxially and synchronously at 894, 972, 1175, 1312, 1486, 1713 and 2022nm in a YVO4crystal. The maximum total Raman output energy is as high as 2.77 mJ under the pump energy of 7.75 mJ. A maximum total Raman conversion efficiency of 47.8% is obtained when the pump energy is 6.54 mJ. This is the highest order of Stokes components and the highest output energy generated by YVO4reported up to date. This work expands the Raman spectrum of YVO4crystal to the near-IR regime, with seven wavelengths covered at the same time, paving the way for new wavelength generation in the near-IR regime and its multiwavelength application. Abstract

By using a diode-side-pumped Q-switched Nd:YAG rod laser based on a thermally-near-unstable flat-flat resonator, an intracavity-frequency-doubled green beam generation is investigated. Output power 140 W is obtained at a repetition rate of 10 kHz and a pulse width of 110 ns. The green beam quality factors M-x(2) and M-y(:)2 which are measured by a laser beam analyser, are 10.65 and 10.85, respectively. at output, power of 124 W.

A diode-side-pumped Nd:YAG ceramic slab laser with a high power output is presented. An average power of 526 W is achieved at 1064 nm with a repetition rate of 120 Hz and a pulse width of 180 μs from a 93mm × 52mm × 8 mm ceramic slab at a pump power of 1928 W, corresponding to an optical-to-optical efficiency of 27.3%.

Abstract

We report a Q-switched 2-μm Tm:YAG laser based on intracavity-pumped by a 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser operating at room temperature for the first time. An average output power of 5.1 W is obtained with the repetition rate of 30 kHz and a pulse width of 300 ns. In addition, we demonstrate a 12.5-W continuous-wave 2-μm Tm:YAG laser, which is, to our best knowledge, the highest power for intracavity-pumping configuration.

Abstract

A high-efficiency high-power Nd:YAG laser under 885nm laser diode (LD) pumping is demonstrated. The laser crystal is carefully designed, and the overlapping between the pump modes and the laser modes is optimized. The maximum output power at 1064 nm is 87W under the absorbed pump power 127.7W, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 72.4% and an optical-optical efficiency of 68.1%. The optical-optical efficiency is 58.4% for the pump power emitted directly from the LD. To our best knowledge, this is the maximal optical-optical conversion efficiency obtained for the LD end-pumped Nd:YAG lasers so far.

Abstract

Laser performance of 1064 nm domestic Nd:YAG ceramic lasers for 885 nm direct pumping and 808 nm traditional pumping are compared. Higher slope efficiency of 34% and maximum output power of 16.5 W are obtained for the 885 nm pump with a 6 mm length 1 at.% Nd:YAG ceramic. The advantages for 885 nm direct pumping are discussed in detail. This pumping scheme for highly doping a Nd:YAG ceramic laser is considered as an available way to generate high power and good beam quality simultaneously.

Abstract

We report a stable high power and high beam quality diode-side-pumped cw green laser from intracavity frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser with KTP. By using a L-shaped concave-convex resonator, designed with two Nd: YAG rods birefringence compensation, a large fundamental mode size in the laser crystal and a tight focus in the nonlinear crystal could be obtained simultaneously. The green laser delivers a maximum 532nm output power of 23.2 W. Under 532nm output power of 20.9 W, the beam quality factor is measured to be 4.1, and the fluctuation of the output power is less than 1.4% in an hour.

A 785 nm diode-side-pumped high-power high-pulse-repetition-frequency Q-switched 2m Tm:YAG laser system is reported. Under a pump power of 1300 W, a 171.4 W average output power is achieved at a pulse repetition frequency of 10 kHz. To our knowledge, this is the highest average output power for a diode-pumped all solid-state Q-switched 2m Tm:YAG laser. Abstract

We have demonstrated a highly efficient, high average output power laser based on the optimized resonator made up of multiple Nd:YAG rods. The laser consists of three groups, each of which contains two rods with one quartz 90° rotator between them. By a desirable design of the resonator, the average output power of 1906 W at 1064 nm is reached with repetition rate of 1.1 kHz. Abstract

We report that a deep ultraviolet (DUV) laser from the sixth harmonic of a 1064 nm laser has been firstly used as light source in an ultrahigh energy-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The wavelength is 177.3nm obtained by using the second harmonic KBe2BO3F2 crystal with a frequency tripled 1064nm Nd:YVO4 laser. The large flux (1014 - 1015 photons/s) and narrow line width (0.26meV) are suitable for the ultrahigh-energy resolution ARPES. The laser-ARPES can be a powerful tool to study the electronic structure at and near the Fermi level of the superconductor and correlated materials. Abstract

High quality single crystals of heavy Fermion CeCoIn5 superconductor have been grown by flux method with a typical size of (1 [?] 2) x (1 [?] 2) x ([?] 0.1) mm3. The single crystals are characterized by structural analysis from x-ray diffraction and Laue diffraction, as well as compositional analysis. Magnetic and electrical measurements on the single crystals show a sharp superconducting transition with a transition temperature at Tc,onset [?]2.3 K and a transition width of [?]0.15K. The resistivity of the CeCoIn5 crystal exhibits a hump at [?]45 K, which is typical of a heavy Fermion system. High resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements of CeCoIn5 reveal clear Fermi surface sheets that are consistent with the band structure calculations when assuming itinerant Ce 4f electrons at low temperature. This work provides important information on the electronic structure of heavy Fermion CeCoIn5 superconductor. It also lays a foundation for further studies on the physical properties and superconducting mechanism of the heavy Fermion superconductors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We report a Q-switched 2-mm Tm:YAG laser based on intracavity-pumped by a 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser operating at room temperature for the first time. An average output power of 5.1 W is obtained with the repetition rate of 30 kHz and a pulse width of 300 ns. In addition, we demonstrate a 12.5-W continuous-wave 2-mm Tm:YAG laser, which is, to our best knowledge, the highest power for intracavity-pumping configuration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We report a stable high power and high beam quality diode-side-pumped cw green laser from intracavity frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser with KTP. By using a L-shaped concave-convex resonator, designed with two Nd:YAG rods birefringence compensation, a large fundamental mode size in the laser crystal and a tight focus in the nonlinear crystal could be obtained simultaneously. The green laser delivers a maximum 532 nm output power of 23.2 W. Under 532 nm output power of 20.9 W, the beam quality factor is measured to be 4.1, and the fluctuation of the output power is less than 1.4% in an hour. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
