Abstract

The article comments on academic freedom issues faced by Catholic universities in the United States. The decision of the Vatican to bar the Reverend Charles E. Curran, a tenured professor at the Catholic University of America, from continuing to teach theology has been perceived as a threat to academic freedom. This and other issues resulted to an inquiry to examine the actions of Curran and other university faculty members relevant to a controversial incident.
