Abstract

The article discusses the Bay Area Express Lanes project in the San Francisco Bay Area. The 550 mi network will include lanes for high occupancy vehicles (HOV) and solo drivers paying toll. Topics discussed include the design and construction of the roadways and the express lane corridors, systems for monitoring traffic, processing tolls, and reduction in traffic congestion. Metropolitan Transportation Commission's (MTC) role in implementing the project is elaborated.
