The article discusses the interpretation of Johannes Brahms' "First Symphony in C minor, op. 68," by conductor Arturo Toscanini. Observations on the impression of speed in musical performances of Toscanini are presented. Moreover, it tackles the principal evolution in the conducting style of Toscanini. The 1941 and 1951 studio recordings of the symphony by Toscanini with the NBC Symphony Orchestra are also addressed.
