A computerized transfer credit evaluation system designed for the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Boston campuses is described, focusing on system operation. The application software was designed for a local area network permitting multiple-user access but can run on a personal computer. Technical aspects of the hardware and software are discussed. A survey of 784 minority group applicants to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst who were accepted but did not enroll indicates that prospective students are very aware of racial incidents on campus and made college choice decisions based in part on that information. Black students were particularly affected. (MSE)

A study of the statistical relationships between gender, undergraduate area of study, undergraduate grade point average, further educational plans, and student participation in an honors program both (1) confirms earlier research about gender-related differences in educational plans (2) and suggests that fewer graduates are pursuing further study immediately after graduation.
