Superhydrophobic materials are promising next-generation waterproof materials due to their excellent self-cleaning, antifouling and additional capabilities. Herein, the superhydrophobic materials with excellent comprehensive performance were developed via a simple, low-cost, environmental, and scalable spray method with epoxy adhesive assistance. The epoxy adhesive enhanced the adhesion strength between spray coating and substrates significantly. Consequently, various properties of superhydrophobic coatings were improved greatly. The as-prepared superhydrophobic surfaces exhibited excellent mechanical durability. The water contact angle maintained unchanged basically and sliding angle only increased slightly even though sandpaper abrasion distance had extended to 2100 cm or tape-peeling test had reached 30 cycles. Moreover, the strong water repellence retained even after 72 h immersion in strong acid/alkali, 1 h treatment upon 280 °C, and 7 days exposure under 254 nm UV light. These indicated that the obtained superhydrophobic materials exhibited outstanding acid, alkali, high temperature, and UV light resistance and stability. Besides, the superhydrophobic materials demonstrated excellent self-cleaning and anti-icing performance. So the synthetic superhydrophobic materials were expected to have a wide range of applications in the industrial production and daily life. More importantly, they could be applied in a variety of harsh environments for long periods of time. Superhydrophobic surfaces show significant advantages in interface issues. However, their practical application is limited due to the poor wear resistance and environmental durability. Consequently, the constructed superhydrophobic surfaces are vulnerable to physical actions. In this work, a simple, low-cost and eco-friendly one-step spray-coating method was developed to fabricate the superhydrophobic surfaces using all-in-one suspension. Meanwhile, no potentially toxic reagent (such as fluoroalkylsilane, and so on) was used in the preparation method. Furthermore, an inorganic aluminum phosphate (AP) binder was proposed to enhance the bonding force among SiO 2 nanoparticles, superhydrophobic coatings and substrates. As a result, the durability and stability of the superhydrophobic materials was enhanced markedly. The as-prepared superhydrophobic materials not only showed excellent durability and stability when exposure to various harsh environments, such as acid, alkali, salt, organic-solvent immersion and UV irradiation, but also maintained their superhydrophobicity after long distance of mechanical abrasion and multiple tape-peel tests. It still remains a great challenge to fabricate superhydrophobic materials with excellent durability and mechanical stability by facile and scalable methods, and which is also one of the most important practical application limitations for superhydrophobic materials. In this work, various superhydrophobic materials were fabricated by the scalable two-step spraying method. Grounded on the strong bonding strength of polydopamine (PDA) intermediate layer, the as-prepared superhydrophobic materials exhibited outstanding durability and mechanical stability. The materials maintained the superhydrophobicity even after long time exposure in a variety of harsh environments such as strong acid/base, organic solvent, and UV light irradiation as well as long distance of mechanical abrasion. In addition, the superhydrophobic materials revealed excellent oil-absorption and releasing performance, and the absorption-releasing process could be repeated many times without the reduction of oil absorption capacity. Therefore, the environment-friendly and scalable preparation method along with the outstanding durability, mechanical stability, and oil absorption capability of superhydrophobic materials would find wide application in industrial production and environmental remediation.
