Internet of underwater things (IoUT) is a technology enabling underwater sensor nodes to communicate with the IoT networks to support various applications. Efficient energy utilization and network lifetime are the two main critical issues related to the IoUT. Both performance factors are related to how efficiently the routing protocol is tailored especially for heterogeneous IoUT. In this context, efficient routing protocols that consider underwater nodes (UNs) energy heterogeneity can adjust the energy imbalance, especially in heterogeneous IoUT scenarios. In IoUT, both the UN's energies and their depths can greatly affect the energy efficiency and clustering-based routing protocol. This paper provided an energy and depth-based stable election routing protocol (SEP) to suit the requirements of underwater communications. The objective of the depth-based SEP protocol is to enhance energy-efficient routing while considering the varying energy levels of UNs in IoUT. The proposed protocol depends on the depth-based cluster head (CH) election approach by defining distinct functions tailored for UNs with different energy levels and depths, in addition to the distance between the selected CH and the surface base station. Experimental results indicate that depth-based SEP-IoUT protocol outperforms network lifetime more than conventional SEP and SEP-IoUT. In traditional IEEE 802.11 protocols, the RSSI is usually taken as the criterion for AP selection, by which the AP with the greatest signal strength may be heavily burdened. In this paper, A SDN-based AP selection scheme called TPR is proposed. Through centralized control from SDN controller which has a full view of the network, our TPR enables AP selection more reasonable and efficient. In addition, the OpenFlow protocol embedded in the AP firmware is revised to efficiently collect the measurement data for AP selection. Besides, since the data processing task is shifted to the SDN controller, the burden of each STA is greatly alleviated thus resulting in fewer energy consumption and overheads at STAs. Experimental results demonstrate the ability of our TPR to increase the throughput of the WLAN system in multi-AP scenario and to reduce the number of handoffs among different APs. Green and reliable communication has great significance for Industrial Internet of Things. Unfortunately, because of the loss nature, achieving reliable transmission is challenging. In this paper, a novel hybrid transmission protocol (HTP) is proposed to maximize lifetime while the reliability is still guaranteed. The proposed protocol adopts Send-Wait automatic Repeat-Request protocol in hotspot areas to reduce the energy consumption and network coding based redundant transmission approach with adaptive redundancy level in non-hotspot areas to guarantee the reliability. The proposed protocol could improve the lifetime and shorten the delay on the premise of ensuring the reliability. Comparing with Send-Wait automatic Repeat-Request protocol, it can improve lifetime by 15%–30% under the same reliability and improve the reliability by 12%–45% under the same lifetime. A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is an infrastructure-less collection of nodes that are powered by portable batteries. Consumption of energy is the major constraint in a wireless network. This paper presents a new algorithm called Energy-Aware Span Routing Protocol (EASRP) that uses energy-saving approaches such as Span and the Adaptive Fidelity Energy Conservation Algorithm (AFECA). Energy consumption is further optimized by using a hardware circuit called the Remote Activated Switch (RAS) to wake up sleeping nodes. These energy-saving approaches are well-established in reactive protocols. However, there are certain issues to be addressed when using EASRP in a hybrid protocol, especially a proactive protocol. Simulation results for the EASRP protocol show an increase in energy efficiency of 12.2% and 17.45% compared with EAZRP and ZRP, respectively. The EASRP protocol also proves to be effective in by producing a better packet delivery ratio for low- and high-density networks as measured by the NS-2 simulation tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wireless sensor networks are formed by a large number of sensor nodes which are commonly known as motes. In the past few years, several reliable, congestion controlled and energy efficient transport layer protocols in wireless sensor networks have been developed and proposed in the literature. In this paper, we have presented a hybrid and dynamic reliable transport protocol which provides the mechanism to dynamically assign the timing parameters to the nodes as well as enhance the protocol performance by using a hybrid Acknowledgement/Negative Acknowledgement scheme. The performance of proposed protocol is tested under TinyOS Simulator varying different parameters and protocol settings and found that proposed protocol is able to program all the nodes when given proper pump/fetch ratios, is able to solve the booting sensor nodes problem by being able to wait till all the nodes finished booting and solves the all-packets-lost problem by acknowledging the receipt of its first packet delivered that is the inform message. Manycore CMP systems are expected to grow to tens or even hundreds of cores. In this paper we show that the effective co-design of both, the network-on-chip and the coherence protocol, improves performance and power meanwhile total area resources remain bounded. We propose a snoopy-aware network-on-chip topology made of two mesh-of-tree topologies. Reducing the complexity of the coherence protocol – and hence its resources – and moving this complexity to the network, leads to a global decrease in power consumption meanwhile area is barely affected. Benefits of our proposal are due to the high-throughput and low delay of the network, but also due to the simplicity of the coherence protocol. The proposed network and protocol minimizes communication amongst cores when compared to traditional solutions based either on 2D-mesh topologies or in directory-based protocols. In this paper, a locality aware NoC communication architecture is proposed. The architecture may reduce the energy consumption and latency in MultiProcessor Systems on Chips (MPSoCs). It consists of two network layers which one layer is dedicated to the packets transmitted to near destinations and the other layer is used for the packets transmitted to far destinations. The actual physical channel width connecting the cores is divided between the two layers. The locality is defined based on the number of hops between the nodes. The relative significances of the two types of communications determine the optimum ratio for the channel width division. To assess the efficiency of the proposed method, we compare its communication latency with that of conventional one for different channel widths, communication traffic profiles, and mesh sizes. Abstract: An unreliable wireless communication environment and limited energy resources have a severe impact on the Quality of Service (QoS) of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). To improve network performance, an Energy-balanced Cooperative Media Access Control (EC-MAC) protocol in MANETs is proposed in this paper. It adopts the best partnership selection algorithm based on opportunistic relaying to select the cooperative node with the best channel conditions, highest transmission rate and most balanced energy consumption. The simulation results of EC-MAC, Cooperative MAC (CoopMAC) and IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) protocols show that EC-MAC outperforms the other two protocols in terms of the packet delivery ratio, network throughput and network lifetime under two distinct channel noise levels, especially under the bad channel condition. Meanwhile, the EC-MAC protocol does not increase the average end-to-end delay compared with IEEE 802.11 DCF. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: It is well known that the data of large-scale and dense wireless sensor network has high spatial correlativity. According to the monitoring of a particular event, a new medium access control (MAC) protocol based on perceived data reliability and spatial correlation is proposed in this paper. In this protocol, a ring-shaped space correlation model is established. The nodes close to information source is attributed them high priority in access channel so as to make sure the high quality data send successfully to the sink node and increase the data transferring efficiency. The new protocol can make the received data reflect the real physical phenomenon. At the same time, it can make the data transmission of the nodes far to information source be brought down and the amount of required data nodes be reduced. So the new protocol can prolong lifetime of the whole network. Our simulation results show that the new MAC protocol can supply better network service under low energy consumption and transmission delay. Abstract: Minimizing energy dissipation and maximizing network lifetime are among the central concerns when designing applications and protocols for sensor networks. Clustering has been proven to be energy-efficient in sensor networks since data routing and relaying are only operated by cluster heads. Besides, cluster heads can process, filter and aggregate data sent by cluster members, thus reducing network load and alleviating the bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed clustering algorithm where cluster heads are elected following a three-way message exchange between each sensor and its neighbors. Sensor’s eligibility to be elected cluster head is based on its residual energy and its degree. Our protocol has a message exchange complexity of and a worst-case convergence time complexity of . Simulations show that our algorithm outperforms EESH, one of the most recently published distributed clustering algorithms, in terms of network lifetime and ratio of elected cluster heads.
