Abstract: Recent research in behavioral sciences presents strong evidence of poor human understanding for dynamic systems. Computer-based dynamic control tasks have an important potential for helping behavioral scientists advance research that investigates reasons for poor understanding and for helping students understand how dynamic systems work. In this paper, we introduce a simulation called Dynamic Stocks and Flows (DSF) that portrays the basic building blocks of dynamic systems: an accumulation; an inflow and outflow determined by an environment; and an inflow and outflow determined by a decision maker. In DSF, decision makers control the accumulation to a goal level by making repeated inflow and outflow decisions. We provide details of an experiment conducted with DSF that highlight some problems people face in controlling a dynamic system with different kinds of environmental inflow and outflow functions. DSF is flexible enough to represent dynamic systems with continuous or discrete accumulations, and with real-time or event-driven decision-making. We suggest that these and other features in DSF make it a good research and educational tool. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: This paper explores the Cyber-Psychological and Cyber-Geographic aspects of hacking and hacktivism. An examination of the literature related to hackers and hacking reveals a complex nexus of spatial (including cyber-spatial such as “Notopia”) and psychological aspects of hacking, from which emerges a central question of how humans perceive and manipulate their cyber-identities. Concealing (real and cyber) identities is typical in hacking. With our progressive acculturation with identity-less and place-less modes of existence, our cyber-identities through time may be studied from within John Locke’s criterion of “memory” and the spatial-geographical criterion of identity. Abstract: In this paper, a specific group awareness approach for CSCL settings, namely knowledge awareness, is presented. We classify knowledge awareness in relation to already well-established concepts like shared mental models, common ground, and transactive memory system in order to provide a comprehensive definition of this approach. The functionality of knowledge awareness tools aiming at fostering knowledge awareness is conceptualized in a cyclical model. Three application scenarios are presented to illustrate how knowledge awareness tools work in three different tasks. All these knowledge awareness tools have been found to be effective, that is all tools could foster knowledge awareness and led to increased learning performance. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Shyness is a debilitating experience for a large proportion of the population. Shyness can be defined as a form of excessive self-focus, a preoccupation with one’s thoughts, feelings, and physical reactions and may vary from mild social awkwardness to total social inhibition. This article explores shyness, its prevalence and effects and examines the role of the internet in the experience and expression of shyness. Compared to research on shyness in the offline world, empirical work on shyness online is relatively scarce. Nevertheless, the research that does exist can be categorized into two seemingly contradictory positions. The first position views the internet as an isolating medium, attractive to shy people and enhancing shyness. The second position describes the internet as an empowering medium, offering opportunities to experience disinhibition and social competence. This paper considers how the two positions might be reconciled. In addition, in order to reduce inconsistencies in the literature and to determine how shy people use the internet, it is suggested that more research, incorporating objective measures and experimental methodologies, is needed. Abstract: Ever since the beginnings of the internet researchers have questioned its utility in developing and maintaining psychological healthy romantic and sexual relations. Advocates of the social presence theory and media richness theory purport that in leaner media individuals can be quite aggressive towards one another (e.g., in the form of flaming). In contrast, others believe that the lack of traditional cues in CMC can in fact be overcome and instead lead to more personal, intimate relationships. As this paper will demonstrate, when we consider how beneficial it is to form relationships online we also need to consider individuals’ characteristics (e.g., personality characteristics and physical attractiveness), the amount of time people spend online, the duration of online relationships, and how these relationships effect individuals’ offline activities and relationships. Overall, the view here is that online relationships can be empowering for many people; that is, cyberspace provides a unique environment for people to experience and learn about relationships and sexuality. Abstract: Student modelling is an important process for adaptive virtual learning environments. Student models include a range of information about the learners such as their domain competence, learning style or cognitive traits. To be able to adapt to the learners’ needs in an appropriate way, a reliable student model is necessary, but getting enough information about a learner is quite challenging. Therefore, mechanisms are needed to support the detection process of the required information. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between learning styles, in particular, those pertaining to the Felder–Silverman learning style model and working memory capacity, one of the cognitive traits included in the cognitive trait model. The identified relationship is derived from links between learning styles, cognitive styles, and working memory capacity which are based on studies from the literature. As a result, we demonstrate that learners with high working memory capacity tend to prefer a reflective, intuitive, and sequential learning style whereas learners with low working memory capacity tend to prefer an active, sensing, visual, and global learning style. This interaction can be used to improve the student model. Systems which are able to detect either only cognitive traits or only learning styles retrieve additional information through the identified relationship. Otherwise, for systems that already incorporate learning styles and cognitive traits, the interaction can be used to improve the detection process of both by including the additional information of a learning style into the detection process of cognitive traits and vice versa. Social commerce has altered the consumption experience due to various interactive factors. Growing evidence stated that users are prone to buy impulsively in such an environment. Prior studies were limited to demonstrate the emerging role of social media celebrities and embedded social interaction in the context of impulse buying though users encounter them concurrently and frequently while browsing. Hence, this study investigated the influence of celebrities' post authenticity, sentiment polarity, observational learning, and impulse buying tendency following the latent state-trait theory. We have used the data of 452 Pakistani respondents to empirically investigate the research model collected via an online questionnaire from celebrities' community on Facebook. This study employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to analyze data. The findings revealed that proposed constructs significantly influence the urge to buy impulsively. Further, impulse buying tendency moderates all relationships except negative sentiments. Unexpectedly, the moderation effects of celebrities' authenticity are insignificant. Furthermore, fsQCA results show the robustness of constructs towards urge to buy impulsively. Increased attention has been placed on the role of technological artefacts in the promotion of prosocial behaviours. However, up to this date, there is still no systematic exploration of the effectiveness of robots and virtual agents as promoters of this type of behaviour. The goal of this paper is to map research on the effectiveness of interventions involving interaction with social robots and virtual agents in eliciting prosocial behaviours in humans, as well as to derive implications for future research and development of these agents. We identified 272 publications relevant to our goals, retrieved from 7 pertinent digital libraries in the areas of Human–Computer Interaction and Psychology. The final sample of primary sources included 19 publications (reporting on the results of 23 independent studies) involving at least 1524 subjects. The sources included were peer-reviewed research articles involving direct contact with robots or virtual agents, published in English between January 1st of 2000 and May 31st of 2020. Of the 23 studies included, 22% did not find evidence to support an association between interaction with social robots or virtual agents and engagement or intention to engage in prosocial behaviours; and 26% reported mixed results. The remaining 52% of the studies reported positive effects in prosociality resulting from interaction with robots or virtual agents. The majority of these studies included interaction with robots (n=20) and was aimed at invoking prosocial behaviours towards the socially interactive agent itself. Most studies presented a satisfactory level of quality. There is a potential promise for social robots and virtual agents to serve as elicitors of prosocial behaviour among humans, both directed at the wider community and at the robot or agent itself. Nonetheless, further research is warranted to clarify the design and interaction-related variables that can increase the level of effectiveness of these technological agents, specially in what concerns virtual agents. • Prosocial behaviour is beneficial for all actors involved. • Robots and virtual agents are effective at triggering prosocial behaviour from their human users. • Prosociality augments current robots' abilities through means of human collaboration. Sharing commerce is an e-commerce business model where service providers (who provide possession of goods) and customers (who acquire temporary ownership for a fee) are connected through commercial networking systems tailored by service enablers. Research on sharing commerce to date investigate key drivers of consumer engagement in sharing commerce platforms, but relatively little attention has been given to the role of trust, and trust formation. Drawing on the socio-technical theory, the purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of social and technical enablers on consumer trust and whether trust influences users' continued use and positive word-of-mouth (WOM) in the context of sharing commerce. Results of an empirical study (N = 211 active Airbnb millennial users) indicate that social referrals, information quality and transaction safety positively affect users' trust, which in turn facilitate their continued intention to use the sharing commerce platform and share positive word-of-mouth testimonials and postings thus sharing positive consumption experiences with other consumers. Results also suggest that transaction security is approximately four times more effective at increasing trust than social referrals and 2.68 times more effective at enhancing trust than information quality. • The definition and business model of sharing commerce is provided. • We explore social and technical enablers on consumer trust in sharing commerce. • Transaction security is most influential in increasing trust in sharing commerce.
