When the environmental performance is below the aspiration, will firms make substantive changes? In order to answer this question, based on the behavioral theory of the firm, this paper examines the impact of negative environmental performance feedback on substantive green innovation (GI) and its influencing mechanism. It is found that the negative environmental performance feedback induces substantive GI, which is positively moderated by external regulations (i.e., government environmental regulation and public environmental concern) and internal incentive (i.e., executive equity incentive). Media pressure and risk preference act as mediators in the above promotion effect. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the above promotion effect as well as the moderating effects of external regulations are more pronounced in private firms, while the moderating effect of internal incentive is more pronounced in state‐owned firms. Furthermore, the above promotion and moderating effects are more pronounced after the ESG rating event of SynTao Green Finance Agency. Digitalization and sustainability have been the core drivers of transformation of the financial industry in recent years. In this context, green fintech plays a major role, which, however, is still an unexplored field in business, information systems and finance research. This paper conducts a systematic literature analysis and develops a research agenda based on a framework, which is derived from clustering 74 academic research papers. The framework consists of the four clusters strategy, organization, technology, and potentials along nine dimensions. The research agenda reveals that green fintech is still a very premature field of research. The analysis shows that areas like customer‐ and government‐related services, insurance‐oriented approaches and SDGs which focus on life on land and life below water are still rare and that most of the approaches focus on blockchain technology, while other financial technologies like artificial intelligence are still underrepresented. The mutual fund plays an important role in corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. From the perspective of the social network, using data from A‐listed companies in China from 2009 to 2016, this paper empirically tests the influence of mutual fund networks on corporate social responsibility behaviours. To solve the sample selection bias in this study, we utilize propensity score matching to find the different social responsibility behaviours between firms with or without highly concentrated mutual funds. Our results suggest that mutual fund investors positively impact a firm's corporate social responsibility performance, as predicted. The fund network centrality and pressure mechanism have a positive impact on corporate social responsibility performance because they provide more peer pressure and network information to firms in which they are heavily invested. The influence of state ownership on a firm's environmental strategy is still unclear due to the varied relationships across different international institutional contexts in the firm's home and host country. Applying mixed effect regression models to a sample of 2997 observations of 298 firms from the MSCI World Index for the period 2007–2018, this paper analyzes the different effects of key institutional factors on this relationship. While a state‐owned firm from a state with a high home country environmental profile will have a more positive effect on a firm's environmental proactivity, internationalization will weaken it, since the firm will encounter higher complexity when translating its green actions into a more global institutional context. In addition, when internationalization involves a very different host country environmental profile, the greater institutional distance seems to modify the influence of state ownership on environmental proactivity. This paper contributes to the existing knowledge on the correlation between green innovation and financial performance among small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs). It examines the effects of two types of green innovation, specifically green product innovation and green process innovation, on the financial performance of SMEs. Additionally, it investigates the moderating role of economic support and predetermined targets, which are essential components of government subsidy programs, in relation to the aforementioned associations. Based on the panel dataset collected from Chinese manufacturing and energy industries covering the period of 2011–2021, the results show that (1) green product innovation may not positively impact the financial performance of SMEs; (2) green process innovation could enhance the financial performance of SMEs; (3) economic support may positively moderate the relationship between green process innovation and the financial performance of SMEs, while predetermined targets may negatively influence this relationship. China's environmental governance exhibits a significant imbalance with its economic development. To enhance the "green" and sustainable practices of enterprises, employing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles is imperative. The literature examining the correlation between ESG and green innovation (GI) lacks detailed clarity and obscures the different effects of each dimension. Inefficient resource allocation may also result from ignoring the distinct implementation costs associated with each dimension of ESG. Such problems eventually hinder the guidance of corporate practices. Therefore, the promoting or inhibiting effects stemming from each of these dimensions warrant further study. In this paper, we use data from A‐share listed companies in China for the years 2004 to 2020 to investigate the mechanism that links the E, S, and G dimensions of ESG with GI from an externality perspective. We prove a linear or U‐shaped relationship between the E or S dimension and GI, and we explore the mediating effect of financing constraints on these relationships. We compare these dimensions under a unified theoretical framework to clarify their differences in externality and internality. This study's results highlight the importance for enterprises to emphasise environmental issues and social recognition, instead of just corporate operations, to achieve sustainable development. The drivers of eco‐innovation (EI) have been the focus of much research in the past. Some of these drivers have been external to the firm, such as regulation, whereas others have been internal, including its resources and capabilities and its environmental strategy. However, the analysis of the impact of those drivers on EI has too often been carried out as if they were separated from each other. In reality, the EI drivers are likely to interact. This paper tries to cover this gap in the literature using a holistic and integrated approach. Survey data from 97 chemical firms were analyzed using partial least squares to determine the critical drivers of EI and their interconnections. Our results indicate that, in fact, the impact of some drivers might not be direct but is mediated by their influence on other drivers. This is the case with environmental collaboration, environmental knowledge, green skills, consumer pressure, and export behavior, which have an indirect effect on EI through their impact on environmental strategies. This paper explores whether family and non‐family firms differ in terms of their capability to introduce green patenting. By considering the environmental performance as a corporate social responsibility related concern, the analysis is based on a large data set of patenting activities carried out by Italian manufacturing firms over the period 2009–2017. Results show that family firms are less likely than non‐family firms to implement innovations in green technologies. This study focuses on how green product innovation affects green dynamic capability and competitive advantage in the Chinese manufacturing industry. The empirical research indicates that green product innovation is positively correlated with both competitive advantage and green dynamic capability, whereas green dynamic capability also has a significant impact on competitive advantage. Furthermore, this paper finds that the resource integration capability, resource reconfiguration capability, and environmental insight capability of green dynamic capability play intermediary roles between green product innovation and competitive advantage. Corporate reputation positively moderates the relationship between green product innovation and resource integration capability and positively moderates the relationship between green product innovation and resource reconfiguration capability, whereas there is no moderating effect between green product innovation and environmental insight capability. This paper investigates the theoretical and empirical relevance of motivation crowding theory for owner–managers' motivation towards sustainable development. Motivation crowding theory has argued that external pressures enforce (crowd in) moral motivation if these pressures are perceived as supportive. On the basis of this theory, we conjecture that a competitive environment that is characterized by a high intensity of competition on innovation will crowd in moral motivation towards sustainable development if owner–managers believe that environmental policy practices increase the innovative capability of their company. Test results on survey data filled out by 650 owner–managers support this hypothesis. These results imply that policy makers, who aim at stimulating innovation as well as sustainable development, should inform managers about the innovation‐enhancing effects of environmental policy practices. Digitalization is of great significance for resource‐based enterprises to break through the dual constraints of resource and environment. Based on the data of China's A‐share resource‐based listed enterprises, this study empirically examines the direct effect and transmission mechanism of digital transformation on the enterprises' environmental performance. The study finds that digital transformation significantly enhances the environmental performance of enterprises by stimulating green technology innovation, accelerating human capital accumulation, increasing environmental information disclosure, and strengthening environmental governance. The environmental performance of state‐owned, large‐size and high‐tech resource‐based enterprises is more prominently affected by digital transformation. In the eastern region and areas with higher environmental regulation, the impact of digital transformation on the environmental performance of resource‐based enterprises is more significant. This study contributes to the inconclusive literature on the relationship between board gender diversity (BGD) and green innovation (GI). It empirically examines the moderating role of normative, mimetic and coercive pressures in the relationship between BGD and GI, derived from an industry‐specific isomorphic exhibition of institutional theory. Appertaining to A‐share listed firms of China, the findings highlight the moderating effect of masculinity, environmental sensitivity, environmental regulation level and export orientation of an industry on the said relationship. Moreover, the coercive isomorphism exhibits pronounced impact with the intensity of export orientation. However, firms associated with high‐tech industries have not been confirmed for significant effect on the relationship. Thus, the findings imply that the dynamics of the corporate governance and institutional isomorphism in case of BGD and GI relationships, in the organisational field of industry, are likely both pertinent and prevalent. Moreover, the increase in the number of females on the corporate boards could enhance the green performance of a firm, subject to the fulfilment of industry specific boundary conditions, predefined by the unique set of industry specific institutional pressures. These pressures amid affiliation with a specific industry should be evaluated and controlled for, on the bases of coercive, normative, and mimetic isomorphism it hatches, to device an optimum composition of the corporate board. Green innovation is a key way for firms to establish competitive advantage and contribute to sustainable development, but it often suffers from financing constraints. In this regard, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices allow firms to have a wider investor base, face lower risk, and generate positive market reactions, ultimately leading to a lower cost of capital, which may potentially alleviate financing constraints and provide strong motivation for green innovation. Combining stakeholder theory with the resource‐based view (RBV), this study investigated how ESG substantially affects corporate green innovation. Based on a zero‐inflated Poisson regression analysis of 1577 listed Chinese manufacturing firms, we found that better ESG could significantly induce better corporate green innovation, and financing constraints acted as a mediator in the relationship between ESG and green innovation. This work focuses on the study of how green strategies (GBS) and eco‐innovation (EI) contribute to increasing sustainable and financial performance in the context of the Mexican manufacturing industry, and whether these relationships are mediated by the practices involved in sustainable supply chains (SSCs). This analysis is carried out through an empirical study of a sample of 460 companies in the automotive industry. The results reveal direct positive effects of GBS and EI on performance both, sustainable and financial. In spite of the key role played by SSC, this variable only exerts a mediating effect on the sustainable performance. Nevertheless, although the significant direct effect of sustainable supply chains on financial performance is not verified, there is an indirect effect of supply chains on financial performance through their influence on sustainable development. The findings reveal important implications for managers. They provide rational arguments (increase in performance) that should motivate companies in the Mexican automotive industry to incorporate values, standards, and actions focused on reducing the effects of their activities on the environment. As one type of voluntary environmental regulations, environmental disclosure plays an important role in promoting sustainable development of enterprises by enhancing their environmental awareness. Based on the social responsibility and annual reports published by heavily polluting listed companies in China between 2007 and 2016, this article investigates their environmental disclosure and assesses the impact on their green innovation activities as well as its influence mechanisms. Text analysis is used to measure the environmental disclosure by way of three dimensions including environmental investment and management, environmental supervision and agency certification, and environmental performance and governance. The results of the Poisson regression model for panel data show that environmental disclosure has significantly encouraged green innovations carried out by heavily polluting listed companies in China during the past decade and this result is consistent with a variety of robustness checks. Besides, the mediation effect test demonstrates that environmental disclosure stimulated green innovations of heavily polluting listed companies by expanding their financing channels, promoting their product sales, and raising media attention. As an important method for normalizing firms' environmental behaviors, regulatory inspection has received much attention in both practice and research. However, a consistent conclusion regarding whether and under what conditions regulatory inspection leads to green innovation is lacking. Drawing on the attention‐based view, we argue that the threats or opportunities that top managers perceive from environmental inspection affect the attention they pay to the strategy of green innovation as a response. We hypothesize that firms lacking the capability of regulatory compliance are less likely to invest in green innovation and that the development of promarket institutions diverts managers' attention from reacting to governmental inspection. Although the analysis of the relation between green innovative activism and financial performance is a popular topic, the existing literature has rarely addressed the tangible benefits that companies may enjoy if they engage in green innovations more than their competitors. This study tries to fill the above gap on the basis of an empirical analysis of a panel data set of the Standard & Poor's 500 companies over the years 1999–2016. We find that high green innovative activism, measured by patent data, only harms current financial performance when not carried out in conjunction with other types of innovative activism. In addition, we find that being the most active in green innovation in absolute terms results in significant positive lagged gains in stock market valuations. However, too much concentration on green innovation relative to other types of innovative activism has a negative influence on both accounting and stock market performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study was conducted with an objective to illuminate the complex psychological mechanisms underlying the relationship of green human resource management (GHRM) with job pursuit intention (JPI) of potential applicants. Specifically, a sequential mediation model linking GHRM with JPI through organizational prestige (OP) and organizational attractiveness (OA) was proposed using arguments from theories of signaling and social identity. A sample of 172 students enrolled in the final year of a Bachelors in Technology program at one of the leading technology institutes in India was used to empirically validate the hypotheses. Results largely provided support for the proposed hypotheses. OP and OA sequentially mediated the effect of GHRM on JPI. By offering an understanding of complex microlevel processes through which GHRM shapes prospective applicants' JPI, the study advances the understanding on human element of environmental management and provides a foundation for designing effective GHRM systems. The purpose of this research is to investigate how the green image of a city can affect potential visitors' attitude toward the city in the context of user‐generated content. The study adopts a 2 × 2 experimental design in which the greenness of the city image and the social distance between the users and the authors of social media content are examined. The results demonstrate that green image has a significant effect on attitudes toward cities. Moreover, the effects of social media content vary according to the perceived social distance between the author of the post and potential visitors. This study contributes to the literature by assessing the role that social media content plays in place branding and communication. Furthermore, it provides relevant insights on how institutions should enhance the sustainable resources of cities with their environmental policy and encourage the generation of content from various stakeholders to contribute to the development of a city's image. This empirical study tests hypotheses using a questionnaire survey to explore the positive effect of green motives on green product innovation performance through the mediator of a novel construct, green value co‐creation, in Taiwanese manufacturing companies. In this study, three green motives are examined: instrumental, relational, and moral motives. Green value co‐creation is divided into two parts: green co‐production and green value‐in‐use. This research reveals that moral motives are a much stronger driver than instrumental and relational motives. This study also determines that instrumental and moral motives have positive effects on green product innovation performance. However, no positive associations are observed among relational motives green co‐production, green value‐in‐use, and green product innovation performance. This study suggests that Taiwanese manufacturing companies should invest more resources to enhance moral motives, because they are positively associated with green value co‐creation and green product innovation performance. Abstract: A firm's environmental technology portfolio comprises of a heterogeneous class of technologies, each with distinct economic and environmental implications. Having a portfolio with a proper mix of different technologies is critical in achieving economic and environmental goals. Using data on major United States’ corporates, I identify five types of environmental technologies: pollution control, eco‐efficiency, green design, low‐carbon energy, and management systems. I find that the composition of the environmental technology portfolio affects a firm's performance. Most notably, raising the share of low‐carbon energy and pollution control technologies in the portfolio can negatively affect economic performance. But both low‐carbon energy and pollution control are effective in improving carbon productivity. The other technologies do not display significant impacts on firm performance. The results highlight that firms should take the differential effects of environmental technologies into consideration when designing an adequate technology portfolio to attain desired economic and environmental objectives. Recently, many firms have been focusing on sustainable manufacturing. The manager has to understand the social requirement of concern for environmental protection. This study develops a model to enhance the understanding of how market orientation, quality management, and innovativeness assist Thailand's food industry in attaining its optimal green performance, and to assess the mediating effect of quality management and innovativeness on market orientation and green performance. A questionnaire was developed and employed to gather data from 178 managers in the food industry. Data analysis is performed using the structural equation modelling approach. The results indicate that market orientation, quality management, and innovativeness positively and significantly affect green performance, both directly and indirectly. Moreover, quality management and innovativeness have a partial mediator effect on market orientation and green performance. This finding illustrates that Thailand's food industry could achieve green performance by developing market-driven, quality management capacity and innovation development. Firms face a variety of stakeholder pressures to improve their environmental performance. A firm's perceptions of these pressures can radically affect its strategic reactions and subsequent resource allocation decisions. Previous studies do not explain how perceived operational impacts may influence a firm's investment in environmental technologies. This study examines the relationship between perceived impacts on process and product and carbon preventive projects within firms' environmental technology portfolio. Using carbon emissions and carbon disclosure data, we find that higher perceived process-related impacts are associated with a higher proportion of carbon preventive projects, while perceived product-related impacts have the opposite effect.
